I saw a post yesterday about a Camerounian saying how lucky we are in Nigeria to be able to choose once in 4yrs who should lead us.

The other day I saw the news of Equatorial Guinea's president elected again on a fresh 9yr tenure after ruling for more than 40yrs, his son is also the Vice President.

If educated people like Izzou refuse to vote, he shouldn't complain when the almajiri's decides who leads the country. Evil always thrives when good people remain docile or believe nothing can be done about it.
Very well put. This picture below captures it well. Many foolish people who are privileged to have the right to vote but choose to sit aside while bad leaders keep messing with their destinies.

Just think of what Cameroonians or North Koreans would give to be able to have the opportunity to elect their leaders.

Terrible idea.

Nigeria faces no immediate threat of external aggression unlike South Korea that has a history of aggression against it by regional players like North Korea and Japan.

We don’t need to draft everybody in because that does not help us in any way apart from wasting already scarce resources.
Yeah.... I agree with you its terrible Idea, so can you suggest a viable solution?

izzou:
For you to train anybody, you need funds

Funds to procure equipments
Funds to establish facilties
Funds to hire the appropriate personnel
Funds, Funds, Funds....

Where will Nigeria get it?

That is why i said both BAT, Obi and Atiku have no HOW to solve anything. They are just telling you what you want to hear.

The CBN just said the excess crude oil savings that was 3 billion in 2014, is ABSOLUTE ZERO today. But no, our saviour is coming in 2023.

I was happy when they asked Kwankwaso how he would employ 1 million personnel into the military. He said he will make WAEC free.

SK have the funds to train anybody. Nigeria does not.
In July this year, Minister of Finance announced that FG withdrew 1 billion dollars from that Excess Crude Oil Account to fund the fight against insecurity. To withdraw this money NASS and Governors had to agree ( cross-carpet decision)

In August, Emiefele cried that NNPC was not remitting dollars into FG foreign reserves. NNPC said they need the dollars to continue to fund subsidy.

What does President want to do in this kind of situation except for the suicidal needful - ending fuel subsidy?

That's why you will never get any real answer from any candidate in terms of specific actions they intend to carry out to fix Nigeria because there are none.

In another 4 years time, you will see people begging for another saviour like they did in 2011 when Otuoke man without shoes was the saviour and 2015 when Sai Baba with only 20 cows was the saviour.

The only way to save Nigeria is to break it up, not shouting emilokan or Egyptian statistics upandan.

Ain't taking online banter serious as many of you are doing.
Here you specifically highlighted the part of Izz.ou's post that said Tinubu, Obi and Atiku are the same and don't know HOW to solve Nigeria's problems. You agreed with him 100%

OasisX:
You're 100% right with the highlighted part. I've said it here many times, we are simply gambling and hoping we pick the right choice.

Let's put aside the Candidates and dissect our major Problems in Nigeria, cause, effect and solution. Who knows maybe they do view this thread for Information.

We can help by contributing positively on this Board too.
This was you also agreeing when he questioned how Tinubu will successfully recruit 50 thousand youths into the army and pay them. You acknowledged all to be lamba.

OasisX:
.... of course, everyone here knows the truth but we will rather let sentiment and emotion becloud our sense of reasoning.

Nigeria is definitely broke, but how do you think this problem can be solved?

By removing subsidy?

By increasing tax?

By selling Government Assets?

Consumption to Production ish na Zobo.... ain't gonna buy it.

I am just asking him, since he is assured that Obi will cut excesses from NASS.

Maybe he can tell me how a president has any power to effect that change.

And the revenue problem is why i don't rate Buhari one bit
I said he would cut the cost of governance and bring better transparency to our institutions, going by his own antecedents in office.

Nass is just an aspect, there are other areas where he would do that that would be very impactful. Slash the salaries and amoluments of government appointees. Ministers, head of parastatals etc who inflate bonuses and contracts. Stories like amaechi awarding contract to an unknown company or aliases, bloated ministerial budgets, bloated villa budgets etc.

These are areas where impacts of cost of governance will be felt.
As for nass budget, Obi has said that there is something called political will, that if he leads by example, others will be bound to follow.
If the populace sees that the presidency is pulling all stops to actively reduce the cost of governance, that create optical pressure on the national assembly members. Secondly, the labour party is going to have some elected members of assembly, senators and house of rep that will form a caucus or coalition that leads the charge in the house for a slashing of bloated budgets and salaries. This coupled with public pressure and executive pressure is bound to have an effect on nass' budget.

Also the strengthening of the efcc that enables it actually do itd job and go after corrupt public officials.

One of obi's selling point is his relative integrity. Tinubu and atiku simply can't use anticorruption as a selling point. You see that none of his supporters is even bordering about this. That tells you all you need to know.

But you of all people should know better. You campaigned for Buhari in 2015 with this same selling point. Or did you vet any of Buhari's plans, if not that he could not afford the form and he was using sachet Milo and milk?

Yes, the government should recruit teachers...Qualified teachers..

But since they cannot recruit, an issue that predates even before 1999, what do you expect them to do?

Post corpers to teach?
Or let the classrooms be empty since they cannot recruit that much?
But why exactly cant they recruit qualified teachers? I'm not talking about Anambra alone now, I'm talking about all state govt.

The reason why they are not recruiting teachers is because corpers are cheap labors that they can pay peanuts or nothing at all to teach instead of employing and properly paying teachers.

So, which candidate has come to tell us that he will cut the funds for the National Assembly?

I hope you are aware that the Presidency is not in charge of the budget of the NASS. He cannot add or change what they earn. They have a committee that does that. So how will, let's say Obi make that change? How exactly?
@izzou To avoid misrepresentation I have no candidate, I am a diasporian who isnt currently registered to vote.

The bolded is why we need debates, atleast 3 debates... on our current important issues; I have argued this on this same board, but we are being told its not needed, I cannot wrap my head around that; especially when such views are being promoted by fellow diasporians; hence my refrain that we are not ready a working Nigeria. Atiku with his limited command of spoken english, Obi with his croaked voice should be the ones running away from presidential debate; not a whole omo eko? In his prime an elonquent speaker with a special phonetic flavour that naija's love; that in itself tells me there is something wrong somewhere; something sinister... Haba we are not talking of Buhari military jackboot, we can execuse Buhari running away cos na secondary cert him be; but a whole yankee trained accountant; bro dem no dey buy certificate for abroad ooo....

Now back to your question regarding how you get the National Assembly to tow a line; Bros If I had a candidate he would lead by example; a large number of Buhari voters in 2015 expected this...Remember Buhari body language?

If Buhari had sold off 10 out of 12 aircraft in the presidential fleet; No feeding allowance for Presidency etc; Senate will take note.

Most of our senators are made men; they are not dependent on that funds ; a large number are ex governors/ministers retiring to senate; it is just that no one says no to free money...
Pay per sitting? Na the crazy allowances dey make the bill ballon na..

Secondly ensuring the ICPC and EFCC is unleashed on that budget to root out malfeasance instead of chasing yahoo pickers that collected $100 card from mugu.

Naija wey a whole CJN was removed and nothing happened; If there is WILL there is a way. The national assembly budget wasnt this crazy in Obj time naa?

If they don't play ball the masses will turn on them; however the leadership needs to come the president.

Note this is just my layman opinion, but until we start asking this questions from this guys nothing changes..

Does Tinubu/Atiku/ Obi need nigeria preidential fleet? The answer is no; Obi doesnt fly PJ, Atiku & Tinubu own theirs; so if Atiku/Tinubu says they will sell the fleet to fund war on Terror; whilst making use of their own personal PJ you think any General will get mind to siphon such funds and will not face fire?? Our problems are not insurmountable it is just that the will isn't there? Its all about the Tone from the Top.

That's why I can never rate Buhari. The guy took the easy way out

Take loans and build infrastructures. Some of these projects cannot pay for themselves. Rather, they become liabilities that need more loans to service them. You just shared a document on using 100 billion loan to build roads at 15.6% interest. How will that loan ever be repaid in this life?

I have once asked if we generate anything in this country. Our debt was 70 billion at Dec 2021, and as at June 2022, it was 151 billion. ECA account is now Zero. What masterclass did Buhari actually apply for 8 years?

I expect the next president to take this route too. Use loans to build roads, and everything. Then campaign with it for 8 years.
Not all infrastructure will pay itself. That's a simplistic way of viewing things.

Apart from rails and tolled highways, which infrastructure directly pay for itself?

So it is an easy fix bro; if Uber owners car track cars in same Naija; how can we not track fuel tankers, na ontop corruption and security Buhari fall hand pass.Atleast we are not talking about stolen crude oil here naa
