It is because Ghana is generally a better footballing nation than Nigeria.
They get to learn football techniques very early in age because of the street football (which they call gutter-to-gutter_ and monkey post football where the emphasis is more on how to out manouvre your opponent. So they grow up being more skillful. and it shows in their ability on the ball. Ghanaians are also more patriotic and passionate about their country because of the influence of Kwame Nkrumah.
In the past, many Ghanaians came from Ghana to play for the Green Eagles in the 1980s. e.g Leotis Boateng and Sam Benson. There wer also Nigerians that played for the Black Stars but they were born and bred in Ghana e.g the Olabode brothers and Kayode brothers

But as regards to your submission about Ghana being better than Nigeria in hogwash, I call that a bunch of hogwash. Yes, maybe Ghana have had the better of the encounters between both nations (at least recently), but prior to Ghana beating Nigeria for the first time in the thr 1992 AFCON, the Brentford friendly game and the two AFCONs that followed (2008 and 2010 AFCON), Nigeria always beat Ghana in previous encounters when we had a much more better team. Ghana wasn't that good in the early 2000's when they suffered a decline. Remember Ghana only qualified for their first ever world cup in 2006, meanwhile Nigeria had been to more world cups since 1994 (only next to Cameroon). But I do agree that Ghana had somewhat of a better head-start and foundation in football ahead of Nigeria right before their independence.

Nigeria has won several international and continental trophies at all levels of football perhaps more than Ghana, but considering our population and pedigree, I'll admit that Nigeria has massively underachieved compared to Ghana.

I would have love to read of the achievement of your local teams on the international arena.
But it seems like the only teams that are known in all Nigeria households are Manchester United, Chelsea ... There is no local league in Nigeria. So, what are you bragging about ?
Foreign based players do not represent Nigeria football.
Personally, I think my country, the DR Congo, has far more achievement than Nigeria when it comes to local football.

Do you know when Ghana defeated Nigeria 7-0?! Ghana had won 4 Africa Nations Cup as far back as 1982 when Nigeria had only 1! Ghana has beaten Nigeria more than any other team in the world!
Ghana went down in the 1980s because of economic and political downturns and had even withdrawn from the Libya 1982 Nations Cup. The govt of Libya (under Gaddafi) had to sponsor them and catered for their expenses. Ghana eventually beat Libya in the final to win their 4th Nations Cup. Again, they pulled out after the 1984 edition and only reappeared in 1992.
They have been to the final of the Nations Cup on about 9 occasions, more than Nigeria.
On several occasions, Ghana used their local homebased players to play against Nigeria's best foreign based professionals in Lagos in Nations Cup qualifiers and we could not beat them. Even at Tunisia 1994, Nigerians were praying for Cote de'voire to beat them so we could avoid them in the semi-final, because we were scared of them. The fear of Abedi Pele was the beginning of wisdom for Nigerian defenders!

Nigeria was very successful between 1994-2000, but football encounters between the 2 countries started long before then. Go and ask people like Segun Odegbami, Christian Chukwu, etc. who played against Ghana....they would tell you about Ghana. You can even google some of Odegbami's articles about football between Ghana and Nigeria
