In 2009, talks began about a drone deal between Israel and Russia, with the aim of creating in Russia a knowledge base for a local drone industry. The deal was closed a few years later in 2011 as part of , between countries, and after approval from Jerusalem and Washington, the aerospace industry transferred know-how to Russia, including drones to be used by the Russian army.

Based on this deal, the UAV called in Israel Searcher became the Forpost UAV in Russia. No one in the Israeli or American Ministry of Defense dreamed that a decade later, Russia would invade Ukraine. It seems that the ministry envisioned Russian wars in Central Asia, far from Europe.

In 2016, the Americans put the brakes on and Israel stopped supplying Russia with drones. Probably because of Russia's use of these tools in the invasion of Crimea in 2014. The first record of a UAV of this type falling in Ukraine, almost entirely, was in 2015.

A few years later, in February 2022, Russia decided to occupy more parts of Ukraine, in a war that continues to this day. About a month after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Russian military released a video of an armed drone in the service of the Russian military.

In March 2022, such a vessel fell in Ukraine. A few months later, last July, another Forpost was reported to have fallen in Ukraine.

It is important to note that drones, naturally, fall from the sky due to technical faults, operator errors or interception. These drones do many flight hours, some of them over areas saturated with anti-aircraft weapons.

US Army awarded a $1.2 billion contract to Raytheon for six National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS) for Ukraine, the Pentagon announced.

Contract includes the delivery of NASAMS batteries, training and logistical support to the Ukrainian military.
