Indeed European police are the best. In all the European countries I have been to, including the one I reside, I have never been harassed or treated like shit before.
I could remember been harassed more than eight times by police in Nigeria when I came for a visit in August.

People talk about racism and discrimination abroad’. They mostly refer to Western countries when they say this.

I admit racism exist, but in my over a decade travelling and living the ‘West’, compared to my decades living in Nigeria, I can say the West is Paradise comparatively, as long as you are no criminal. Never experienced police harrassment. Very high level of professionalism amongst all the security services

I keep saying this - I suffered far more discrimination (tribal and otherwise) in Nigeria than I have ever experienced abroad

Even the unfolding elections in Nigeria is mostly Tribal

Nigeria and most Black African countries are sadly so backward!! They are a Race left behind!

Never a thing like unjust arrest if not proven in court .

It is for the court to decide that, if it is unjust, you can sue the police.

The best candidate would have been

1-Someone with the loyalty bestowed on Asiwaju and who has contributed to the political scene by at least a decade and understands the terrain.

2-Someone with Atiku's political clout all over the country....Don't forget Atiku has gotten 11 million votes in the past.

3-Someone with Peter Obi's zest and energy and connection to the plight of the youths

But none of them have all these qualities....

We cant vote Obi because no be energy we go chop.Obi is naive and the owners of Nigeria cannot even trust him, because they dont have direct access to him.He is popular in the East.Nigeria is too complex to be presided by a nobody like Obi.

Atiku is also dicey because i just dont trust a man that has a second home in Dubai, his economic policies might be towards his own pocket. After being VP for 8 years with a president that was anti-corruption(Obasanjo). He has nothing to show in terms of contribution to national development.

Tinubu's wealth is stupendous, which is not unexpected as he became a king in Lagos state.....after acquiring power democratically, This is a dangerous precedence. He is also weak and old. What if he turns Nigeria to a monarchy...and becomes the de facto king of Nigeria.

All these 3 candidates are not competent to rule Nigeria. I wish something happens and all these 3 people go away for some nothing to lose, no nonsense person to fix the whole country.
I go vote atiku

The only country I think may be worse than the Nigerian police is the Kenyan thugs in uniform. The NPF is worse than the Ghanian police abeg. Firsthand experience.

The NPF can arrest you for nothing. Next thing is arranging a roadside bail for doing nothing illegal. Now wait until you really commit a civil wrong...you'll be treated like a criminal already.

Or wait until a big man ropes you in because he feels you should be imprisoned for nothing. You are gone.

The NPF is shit.
Una no go kill person oh. Which one be "road side Bail" again?

You are right, but for Togo, it's a law, that you mustn't use your camera at their border. If that was the only discrimination you faced in Togo, then it doesn't belong on your list. As for Ghana police, those ones are utterly useless, including their customs and immigration, both at the airport and border.
Enjoy your adventures.

......why always having issues with police in every country you visited? I think it says alot about ur person too. Despite the fact that naija police are bad and that I leave all my life from child til present day in naija, I have never for once had/has issues with police.

.........for you that just visited countries for few weeks if not days, u and police must cross path at all cost.

It means you don't go out or ply the road where police have their checkpoint
Re: My Experience With The Police In Africa Vs Europe by Gaabasky: 8:50am On Dec 10, 2022
I am not surprised of Ghana. They are our monozygotic twin brother and they are learning faster than Nigeria in that direction.

I am not optimistic. Even if OP become a police today or Soldier, he would do the same cuz this corrupt setting is in our head(all)
This unitary system should also be blamed.
But why do people find it difficult to discuss unfair treatment from the military?

Any African country you visit as a Nigerian, except for some of the north African countries, you'd be treated like crap .

In SA, a police asked me to bribe him with dollars, I told him I only have naira, he said naira is crap ,that Nigerians usually carry drugs and went ahead to search and delay me for an hour.

In Ghana, police raided the hotel I lodged and after bringing out all guest, they separated the Nigerians and went ahead to extort money from me.

In Kenya, I wasn't extorted but was subject to enhanced scrutiny and checks, it was as if they knew they won't find anything from me, but also wanted to frustrate me just because I am a Nigerian.

In Togo, Burkina Faso,The Gabon, Cameroun ,Senegal, IvoryCoast and Mali. - the police there are so uncultured , the only language they understand is bribe and money, if you're a foreigner from another African country, they we expect you to give them money.

Libya, I won't advise Nigerians to go here, unless you have some good reason and sponsor to be there. It's a bleeped up place for black Africans trust me!.

Rwanda, I had a good experience here, even if I was Nigerian, maybe it was because I was in company of white folks but the treatment was really okay from the police .

Tanzania ,Ethiopia, Madagascar and Botswana was also not bad, I didn't not get much differential treatment from other africans, I didn't also meet much Nigerians there during my stay but police were much cultured, save for Tanzania, those bastards think every Nigerian tourist has money to give them.

There must be something about you that attracts policemen. I've been in Nigeria for many decades and travelled out quite a bit, not once have I been harassed by policeman, customs or point of entry officers.

People don't know how to handle law enforcement officers. Always be polite, gentle and respectful. Many have been killed even in Europe and USA for running their mouths and trying to challenge a man with a gun, all in the name of knowing their rights.
Re: My Experience With The Police In Africa Vs Europe by mmsen: 9:02am On Dec 10, 2022
I can tell that you do not live in Europe. I love how you JJCs talk about Europe as if you know what is happening there. You do not. Police in Europe most certainly do harrass people, especially black people. Don't come here and yarn nonsense.

Today on my travel experience story

As the saying goes, 'The police is your friend' not in Africa may be in Europe.

Nowhere in the world is 100 per cent perfect but police in Africa is worse including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Togo, Benin Republic, Mali, Burkina Faso.

Africa police all have one thing in common — kidnapping, murder, theft, rape, torture, unlawful arrests, high-handedness, humiliation, unlawful detention, extrajudicial killings, and extortion.

I would like to put this here as a Nigerian solo traveller that has visited 36 States of the most populous nation in Africa, Nigeria, also some African countries and European countries.

I love travelling more than anything. I like to share my genuine experiences about my travel to people in fact I derived joy from it.

So I created a travel blog in 2016 to share my love of travel, adventure, and help inspire others to travel.

Here's my experience with Africa and Europe police;

Benin Republic — I was harassed by the police for no reason.

Togo — police harassed me and took my phone for trying to snap a selfie in their border

Ghana — remove Nigeria on the list, Ghanaian police are the most corrupt set in Africa. I visited a friend in 2018, I was told that police arrest and extort Nigerians daily in the country with 100k to 200k bail charges so I started dressing like Ghanaians. To cut a long story short, my first week in the country I came out from the house to take some shot and learn about their culture, I met police at a roadblock in Kasoa so they arrested me and labelled me a fraudster even with my stamped international passport I transferred 50k from my Nigeria account to bail myself.

South Africa - I was treated like a rag

Mali and Burkina Faso - extortion in this too country is another day story na Nigerians body dem de get power.

Kenya - very heartless set of people

Egypt - This is the best place I have visited in Africa without police harassing me or treating me like trash.

Nigeria (My country) - I have been extorted many times in Nigeria. In Lagos, police took me to their station for putting on a red shoe (I hate red now) drove me to a cyber cafe at Isolo. Forced me to log on my Facebook, searched for cultists orientation related words. They took me to an ATM center and collected all the money in my account, God bless my cousin who sent me 3k for transport that day.

Europe: Europe remains the safest continent on earth. I have paid a visit to some of the European countries including Greece, Finland, Sweden, Bulgary. To be very honest, I have not experienced unlawful arrests, high-handedness, humiliation, unlawful detention, and extortion except the day I police asked for my document they checked it and told me 'thanks for your cooperation, we are very sorry'. I have not seen a policeman with an AK-47 since I came to Europe, no fighting, everywhere is so peaceful and calm.

I'm sorry, but my English is not very good. I am typing with Russian lang PC too.

I am talking about myself, I don't know about you. Share your experience with the police abroad with us.
Police arrested you in Nigeria for putting on a pair of red shoes. This is hilarious I must say.
