Self discipline is the key, try to read atomic habits and eat that frog, maybe 5 pages per day. Determine to be seated and on ur lappy by a particular time only get up at ur stipulated time. Draft ur timetable a day before.

So I have this administrative job that pays me 100k on the island in Lagos. The job doesn't actually afford me any opportunity to grow and I have done a serious introspection of what the future holds and I am not particularly pleased with my analysis.

I am seriously considering resigning from the job to venture into tech. This has been bothering me for quite some time now and it's even compounded by the fact that if I should decide to venture into tech, I would have to go from zero to hundred in six months(don't know how possible this is but I feel it's doable with intensive self learning)

On the other hand, I'm confused on which to go for between data science/analysis and web/software development.

Should I quit my job and venture into tech? In terms of having job prospects and getting employable in 6 months, which skill should I go for? Also considering my age.

I will also appreciate advice outside the scope of what I posted. I know a lot of people might have been through this one time. How were you able to surmount it?
sir invest in my project... u will not regret it...

Hi Kroger.

Please I would like to seek your professional counsel on tech aspect to progress with. I have resolved to venture into tech but I'm confused on which part to take. My resolve is primarily based on financial freedom and I have outlined cybersecurity, cloud computing and front end development as possible options. Which would you advice I go for Sir? One that I can be readily employable on getting the necessary skills and one that can also help me when I have made much from it and looking to relocate abroad.

Hi Bro,

Glad to know you want to venture into the tech space, cyber security and cloud computing is in high demand. Most companies are moving to the cloud and seeking professionals to migrate and manage, either AWS, AZURE OR GCP. you can never go wrong with both Cyber security and cloud computing. I Dont know so much about front end.

@OP, you really tried to have decided to make this plunge however I would give you these few advice.
I'm close to 40 but I feel life still holds more for me so reaching or getting to 40 should push you to do some tough stuffs so you dont regret later.
I'm a web software dev but I have realized that the business side of tech is more glamorous if you can climax around there.
take this seriously:
You can either keep doing the work AND use your evenings to read/code. Start with C and more to python and specialize on backend, you can easily port to data analysis with that stack. You may start with freecodecamp.org.

OR

Save 3 months of your salary and resign but ensure that you are going for a stack that can get you a job in 8-10 months. Both tech fields will give you a good start but this 2nd option may be tough prior to getting a job o.

Decagon isn't remote and you need a collateral.

Just know that being 40+ does not in anyway limit you. You’d need more determination no doubt (children and wife no dey let person see front at this age). But it is completely doable. Set small milestones that you can accomplish. Applaud yourself when you do accomplish them. I’m no longer into programming so my advice may be somewhat dated. But I like to go hard or go home. I will hazard a suggestion and say learn Java. Many of these youngsters will kill me for saying that. But when I learned programming it was with some really tough languages. And Java was my second language even though it was a first language for a lot of my contemporaries in the US. If Java is too “tough”, then try Python. Note that whatever Programming Language used is just a tool. The most important thing is to develop an algorithmic mindset of seeing a problem, breaking it down into small repeatable steps and then writing a program to solve the problem.
