BlueRayDick:Nigeria Penal Code allows for up to 2 years of jail time for a convicted Blasphemer. https://laws.lawnigeria.com/2018/04/20/lfn-criminal-code-act/ So legally in Nigeria, there is a penalty for Blasphemy.

GloriousGbola:They are not pushing for it NOW. It was the Penal component that they implemented in 1999, starting in Zamfara.

OasisX:Na from primary school I know one of my classmates then she said she was Ahmadiyya and not Ansarudeen nor Anwarudeen What are the other sects popular in Nigeria especially south? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 2:22pm On Dec 13, 2022 |
nihilistjnr:Really interesting. I am sure these are grandfathered legacy laws the brits put in place to cow/bully/entrap the native public Otherwise today anyone who preaches against ogun or ahmodia can also be theoretically convicted of blasphemy. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by OasisX: 2:24pm On Dec 13, 2022 |
raumdeuter:Ansarudeen, Nawarudeen, NASFAT, QUAREEB, Ansar Islam and so on are not Sects but Groups under Sunni Sect. Ahmadiyyah is a Sect on its own. They have another holy book after Qur'an and they believe in another holy prophet after Muhammad [PBUH]. |

nihilistjnr:No doubt Sharia law has been present but it's not the law of the federal republic of Nigeria. Sharia law only apply to Muslims not christians or people of any other faith. |

OasisX:Now I get it. Yoruba Muslims aren’t fanatics? They’re way different from Northern Muslims? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 2:26pm On Dec 13, 2022 |
nihilistjnr:Yes, there is punishment for blasphemy legally because issues of blasphemy can amount to disturbance of public peace. The 2 years punishment makes sense and not extreme like the capital punishment which I don't think any reasonable person should support in these modern times. |

raumdeuter:I think it;s these 2 really, especially in Abule-Egba side heading towards Ota Ansarudeen seemed to be prolific with secondary schools sha, whilst Ahmadiyya gave us the famous busstop ![]() |

ShaqFu:But if moslems are the overwhelming majority then it becomes the rule and you cannot plead that you're not anymore Reason why in core North even Christian women cover their head in scarf always and dress similar to their environment |

BlueRayDick:Disturbance of public peace is a misdemeanor. The caregory of offence lagos sentences people to cut grass or wash toilets Because really then it is more about preaching. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by ShaqFu: 2:31pm On Dec 13, 2022 |
raumdeuter:Wrong. Even in the core north the law of the federal republic of Nigeria stands firm. Women who cover their hairs do so because they want to. I've lived in the core north before so I know this. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by nihilistjnr: 2:32pm On Dec 13, 2022 |
ShaqFu:Nigeria doesnt have just one law. Nigeria is a pluralistic when it comes to legal frameworks as enshrined in multiple successive constitutions. This is why a Nigerian court ruled THIS YEAR that Islamic religious law does not violate the constitution, dismissing a test-case challenge from a singer who was sentenced to death two years ago on the charge of blasphemy. https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/nigerias-sharia-blasphemy-law-not-unconstitutional-court-rules-2022-08-17/ Joe, bro, we're a muslim country, and have been since the start ![]()

GloriousGbola:If the fans of this religion are angry enough, and resourced enough to pursue a conviction, then yeah it can be done. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 2:36pm On Dec 13, 2022 |
ShaqFu:Yep. The Qur'an is full of admonitions against illegal sexual intercourse. You are practically guaranteed Al Jannah if you can maintain the sanctity of your private parts. There is however one clause I did not understand at the time. You can legally have sex with those who your right hand possesses. ![]() |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by afrodoc2: 2:36pm On Dec 13, 2022 |
OasisX:Ahmadiyya is definitely a standalone sect. An esoteric mix of majority Sunni Islam and minority Christian beliefs. Talking about the post-prophet period, that is the most interesting portion of Islamic history for a neutral. Enough assassinations and battles. Only 1 of the 4 Rashidun Caliphs died peacefully, and then you had the genius of Khalid ibn Al-Walid. |

nihilistjnr:Native law is constitutional Interesting. So I can legally kill twins? I can legally covet my siblings hot wife if he passes on? I can seize his properties from her family? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Donjazet2: 2:40pm On Dec 13, 2022 |
It's very soothing to see adherents of a religion challenge various sects of their religion and infact reject them totally. Religion simply does not make sense based on it's very contradictory nature and also the fact that it can no longer evolve to meet modern standards. I mean look at oasis plainly confessing that he can't avoid premarital sex or fornication. Unfortunately there are few Muslims in predominantly Muslim countries that can't ever state that in public or afford to have that choice. My question now is why don't we hear more from liberal Muslims in public. How come most of the views espoused here from the Muslims on this board are not publicly heard?? Why don't we see more Muslims publicly challenge their more radical counterparts? Th3 minute that begins to happen, we begin to solve the problem of religious radicalism. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by OasisX: 2:41pm On Dec 13, 2022 |
afrodoc2:..... damn! Were you a Muslim? Like I told GloriousGbola, I have stopped reading/studying post-prophet epochs. I can't stand it, and you're correct on Ahmadiyyah. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by nihilistjnr: 2:41pm On Dec 13, 2022 |
GloriousGbola:I'm not a lawyer so me I don't know o. If you carry your dead brother's wife and he comes back from the afterlife to haunt your soul, and seize your gbola mid-coitus with his spectral hand, don't call me for legal advice. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by ShaqFu: 2:41pm On Dec 13, 2022 |
nihilistjnr:I tell you this, there is no where in the constitution where it is stated that Sharia law must apply to non Muslim. Whoever that singer is, the lawyer who defended him doesn't know what he or she is doing. Putting someone on trial for the case of blaspheming against another religion is a no no. I believe that singer was trialed for offenses capable of causing breach of peace etc, not blaspheming. Also, Sharia law isn't unconstitutional. It is visibly enshrined in the 1999 constitution. So whoever commits blaspheming will be trialed for offenses relating to causing breach of peace etc, not for blaspheming, as long as the person isn't a Muslim. |
