The Yorubas don't take religion serious and they don't serious political and economic decisions based on religious leanings. What you fail to understand is that, many will still vote based on many factors among which are: ethnicity, religion, popularity of the party and candidate. In many villages even in the east where Obi comes from some people only know PDP and APC. You need to know that when you abuse Tinubu, while you praise Obi some Yorubas see it as an abuse on the entire Yorubas.

While your broader point about Pan Africanism is noted, I'm absolutely sure that Moslem outrage (when their prophet is insulted) is NOT an example to follow. There is a striking irony here when one remembers that scores of Nigerians died here about 17 years ago when a Danish (yes, the same Danes!) newspaper published cartoons of the Moslem prophet. Those Nigerians had nothing to do with Danes, newspapers and cartoons, yet Moslem anger cost them their lives.

An even more interesting question is thrown up: what happens in the mind of an African Moslem when there is a conflict (real or imagined) between your Pan Africanist exhortations and the tenets of Islam? What happens then?

Do they look like you? If the bring a Saudi, a Moroccan, a Nigerian and they asked a neutral observer to group them, won't they group the Saudi and Moroccan together?

It was never the case a thousand years ago. Read history very well and you will notice that grand racism towards blacks became a very big issue with the growth and later the industrialization of the western world. The ancient Egyptians were basically blacks and we're very well respected across board. During days of Jesus, most of the characters in the bible then were men of color. The denigration of the black color picked up as Western civilization was cleverly turned into a symbol of racial and cultural superiority by the whites through the colonialists and Western scholars. National boundaries and color differences are all recent inventions that came with industrial and economic growth of the West and then other societies.

Let me add, the introduction and the prosperity of slave trade in Africa also served as a catalyst, and perpetuated such lurid and naive mentality foisting racism.

I actually believe that even without us taking any action, racism has continued to fade and decrease. 200 years ago, blacks were slaves in plantations. 70 years ago, most of Africa was under colonial rule. 35 years ago, South Africa practiced Apartheid, and 15 years ago, no black man ever ruled America.
I think so much progress has been made. This is the best time to be a black man in the last 500 years.
