I believe I have been scammed but I will give the exchanger time to prove otherwise.

Always check the date they joined NL. The more recent, the greater the reason to run. Scammers keep closing their accounts or NL management keeps closing them down and are therefore pushed to opening new accounts to dupe their unsuspecting victim.

Always use escrow services when doing a transaction. If the other party barks at the use of escrow, run with your new Naira notes. They will find all kinds of reasons not to use escrow even when you state you'll pay fees simply because they only want to dupe you.

The above 2 are the simplest ways to prevent being duped if you don't trust the seller or buyer.

Don't be pressured into going ahead due to desperation. That's why I fell.

Pls add other tips as well.

Yeah. The year they joined matters, but someone who has been on NL for years can still scam anybody.

I bought a PS4 from someone on NL last year and I didn't use escrow. I sent money 80k+ and the guy delivered it to me with one pad.

Well, genuine people like that guy aren't much anymore, people eyes are red and will optimise any slightest opportunity to scam you.

There is a rich history of people who were very old members of this forum and suddenly decided to go rogue.
Inspiredm was an old member in the auto section who decided to go rogue and take off with people's money. Wunmi Allen was another one who was an old member and suddenly decided to scam lots of members.

In my opinion the only sure way is a face to face transaction and even that is not fool proof.

I too realized some old members too had gone when some members here seemed reluctant to do business with them.

It's so sad.

A nairalander with the username 'CHUKSBABY' (OMANI CHUKWUNALU FRANKLIN) is an example of the possiblity of old members scamming Nairalanders. He ran away with 400k+ (20k from 20 NLs). When he was called out, he deactivated his NL acct.

If the deal seems too good to be true, just walk away.

Do not allow anyone to pressurize you to release money for a transaction especially if you're having some doubts
