Your claim about the bolded is not correct. Man of d tournament was even given to Messi and Modric in 2014 and 2018 respectively even though they lost. De same goals with MOTM award. If you can say, in your honest sense of judgement, Mbappe didn't outperform Messi in that match. You can as well tell me how many MOTM award Mbappe got in the just concluded world cup.

MVP is different from MOTM. While Messi deserves the MVP because of his contribution to his team(6 goals,3 assist), he only won the MOTM of the final only because his team lifted the cup and he scored 2 of the 3 goals his team scored that day.
On the other hand, Mbappe scored all 3 goals of his team and could have go home with the MOTM if France had lifted the cup.
