I woke up this morning to news of Former President Olusegun Obasanjo Endorsing the candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi. . . I have also seen several comments from Nairalanders, political leaders and country men, many justifying Obasanjo's endorsements and many others criticizing him, even pointing out his own faults while in government and after his tenure as president. . . I have always been neutral in this arguments for the next president of Nigeria as it is becoming more of a social media menace everyday, filled with noises, jokes and comedy and many times, very vulgar comments, not just from citizens but from supposedly learned individuals and political masters. . . Leaning on my neutral stance, I have these opinions about President Obasanjo's endorsements. . . First, he said in his letter that his endorsement and choice of a candidate is based on several factors including his huge experience while he, himself had the job. . After the health woes of Yarud'ua albeit being Nigeria's best president so far, we can only expect Obasanjo to be more modest and realistic with his options. . . Still on Yarud'ua, we should know that Obasanjo selected and campaigned desperately for that man, I am sure Obasanjo knew about his health problems but Obasanjo must have been so keen and focused on Yarud'ua's competency. Regardless, Yarud'ua delivered. . . Now we also know that Olusegun Obasanjo campaigned for Buhari but, he also became Buhari's staunchest critic after President Buhari was perceived to be slow on delivering his mandate. Till today, he continues to criticize PMB . . Obasanjo supporting Obi right now is truly from his experience and wisdom as an elder and an elderly statesman. He is certainly a friend to all the candidates as we have seen in recent times. . . . Peter Obi might be the least popular candidate from a minority region and certainly not from OBJ's ethnic group but OBJ seem to have seen through his genuinely creative ideas for Nigeria as was the case with Yarud'ua. . . Certainly OBJ's endorsement does not guarantee a win for Peter OBi but to me, I feel we could be having another Yarud'ua in this OBJ's endorsement. |

Interesting to read. We can only assume all along, and I think his interest is for the betterment of the country. He made his choice which we must respect. Secondly, I understand the use of the word "minority region" however, you need to rephrase that to "less favourable in politics" out of the three major ethnic groups. The way you put it out there made it look as if the Igbos are a minority group/region geographically which is wrong and disrespectful. Also, your last paragraph isn't clear enough. I understand that it is an assumption. There is always room for armchair speculations. Election Day is just in a month, and I will continue to wish the country the best. We have suffered enough deceit from the two major political parties and now is the time to try something new. |

Tallesty1:The guy is surely drunk. Igbos are not just the five South Eastern States. The Igbos in other states in Nigeria and diaspora can form additional five states. Igbos in Lagos alone is more than Bayelsa's population. Over 40% of people in Abuja are Igbos. |

Polchiz:Your opinions are welcome. Kindly attach references to your claims please. We are all hoping Obi could pull this stunt, I am beginning to like him after the endorsement but here you are... . . Minority or no minority, remember the last time that region produced a president ![]() |

mushroomFarm:You are right in your assertion to the fact that Nigeria has not had a president from Igbo extraction. However, no single tribe can produce a president whether major or minor. Remember that Buhari tried many times and failed. |

You see, obj's endorsement is just like a vendata to those he doesn't want to be there. He brought in Yar'adua, after his death he campaign vigorously for Goodluk, this went South btw Obj and Goodluk cos he tagged him an agbero thereafter Obj had to endorse APC Party to claim the seat. Now Obj has been receiving backlashes from APC LEAD government and to Obj they are no longer worthy of his endorsement so he his pitching tent with Peter Obi. I can see Obj rooting for another party come next election (God sparing his life) if Peter Obi no do well. |

Polchiz:If he's drunk, then you're stupid! Where did you get your stats of Igbos making up 40% of Abuja residents? You should've known that the OP meant minority politically not in population. You guys just make up stats from your bedrooms. |

Polchiz:No be only 40%, I think Igbos in Lagos and Kano constitute 70% of the population of those States. Is obvious you people don't know your place wherever you find yourselves. No wonder you keep abusing the hospitality extended to you. |

fartkay:On point. Need to know that he tore his party ticket to spite PDP/Jonathan prior to 2015 election to support Buhari. He also later in 2019 subtly endorsed Atiku/Obi ticket. He will definitely root for another party of course. |
