It makes sense to sell the party ticket and not seperate rallies. The governor and nass elections are straightforward finger printing. People vote party not individuals. Only in extreme cases do people focus on individuals plus or minus.

NB: by the same token I have seen Atiku crowds shouting Tinubu. None of these things prove anything other than the crowds are struggling to remember who paid them for that day.

But let's go a little deeper

In one breath people call the north feudal and in the same breath they ascribe sophisticated tactical voting strategies to them. Both ideas are faulty.

Northerners are highly relational - they vote according to their representatives relationship with trusted persons - whether these are imams, village heads etc. The idea of individualised voting based on the merit of candidates is a misnomer in the north.

At the moment, most supporters of political parties are framing their bias as solid data; even including anecdotal evidence as statistics.

People will vote the familiar, next they will vote tribal and finally if they want to be circumspect, they will vote with their trusted persons.

Human nature changes slower than technology or ideas.
