Mr Minister compare Nigeria with developed countries not like Gambia. If you increase pay of health workers without fixing insecurity, swindling economy, the money won't have value as well as there would be no peace to spend it, these are the two main reasons health workers are japaing.

Most of these spoiled medical graduates on welfare throughout their lives, without loans or obligations forget that many of their professors left well paying jobs abroad to come home and teach them.

Until Nigeria learn how to train Community Heatlth Officers in abundance like India, China, Russia etc, these uninformed brats that pass foreign medical exams before local exams will continue to japa like the unfortunate neglected Youths.

BTW, the Teaching Hospitals in Ibadan, Ife, Nssuka, Zaria and Abuja already have five star specialist hotels/Hospitals at the top floor of their Hospitals to treat any disease.

If they do not have the specialist in any area, they have the facilities to fly them in. Much cheaper than than the medical tourism of looters treating headaches abroad.

Send the money to Teaching Hospitals, they know what to do. Which Nigerians trust politicians with foreign allocations?

NHS targets African and Asian doctors while Canada,New Zealand, Australia and USA targets NHS doctors. It's a cycle going on and on.

As far as the Nigerian government didn't pay medical doctors school fees, read their bulky textbooks for them and write those life-draining exams, the FG have no right whatsoever to ban doctors from leaving Nigeria.
Abia state doctors have been owed salaries for over 24 months and you still expect them to smile back to their families and be happy for sake of patriotism, right?

Medical education is heavily subsidized in Nigeria and you know it.

Engineering students face more ardous challenges and they are more intelligent.

Now physicians face their own challenges as the jack of all trade willing to be more sensitive with empthy. It is hard to be all that. So, many branch into academics and become scientists and professors.

What some young doctors think is that you can become rich on government jobs anywhere including Britain and USA.

The fact is doctors can become rich anywhere as long as you can work long hours. It is part of their training. So much so that regulations are in place to cut the hours they are used for slave labor in training.

But if they want to make money, even in Nigeria, they must work long hours in private practice after government job. Most Nigerian doctors do not know how long their colleagues work abroad. You want to get rich? You work until you drop.

But wait, is that not true of every skill?

Owing salaries and allowances! Doctors have to feed their families like everyone else.

I just saw one thread where a guy who studied computer science raving that his 110k degree helped him massively abroad. Therefore not only doctors and nurses would be banned but every graduate from all Nigerian institutions would be subject to the law.
