Good morning house Please I would like to know the implications of not using 1) honda powering steering oil ? 2) honda brake fluid Like what would be the implications of using another 1) power steering oil 2) brake fluid |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 11:07am On Jan 11, 2023 |
Sportwin: Honda power steering fluid was formulated principally for the conditioning of Honda’s rubber seals in both the power steering pump and rack. Those seals were made by Honda in their factory and tested with that particular fluid to guarantee the longest life possible hence you see tokumbo vehicles with fully functional power steering apparatus even after 20 years of usage. Honda’s power steering fluid is clear/white in color and not red like automatic gearbox transmission fluids. If you decide to use another type of fluid like regular atf (transmission fluid) in your power steering pump and system it will gradually and eventually eat up the seals in both the pump and your rack which will lead to leakages and reduced performance in short time. think I’m lying? remove the follow come fluid in your Honda power steering system and replace it with the red dextron atf and I guarantee you that within 1 year you will be topping up the fluid, within 2 years your leaks will start showing and within 3 years your steering system will need an overhaul. Don’t mind your mechanics telling you “oga no worry, this abro go work well well” , it’s a lie . . . they just want you to enjoy for 6 months and return to dash them money to repair the same issue afresh again. As for brake fluid, any one can work well. Just remember to get the fluid with a DOT 4 specification as that is the grade required by your system. 5 Likes |

Mafuba: Your issue is with your alternator and it’s accompanying components. Your charging volt is below the optimal level required to power your vehicles electricals and also charge your battery at the same time. If you continue driving with that notice you will experience some sudden fluctuations in your electrical systems. What you should do first is use a multimeter to check the voltage pushed out from your alternator as your vehicle is running both without load and with all loads switches on (ie, headlights, radios, etc) if the charging output is off by even half a volt your vehicle will be giving out that error. Take the vehicle to your auto electrician to check the alternator and change its brush if it’s the culprit. 2 Likes |

Sportwin: 7PK1830 Make sure you use this exact size insist on it . . . Nothing more or less (traders will try to sell you another size believing the one that works for EOD/DC must also work perfectly for your own vehicle too) 2 Likes |

Mafuba: Check using a digital multimeter the following: 1. When car is running at idle, battery charge, take note of voltage reading 2. When car is running at idle, fully loaded, alternator charge, take note of voltage reading Disconnect battery terminal, If the car shuts down, replace alternator. If it doesn’t shut down, take note of alternator voltage reading, then test your ELD and smart battery charge sensor. 1 Like 1 Share |

Conner44:Let's say for example 6pk1830 has been used for a while Whats the implications |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 3:55pm On Jan 11, 2023 |
Sportwin: So far it was 6PK it will run all the components well but depreciate faster . Instead of your china belt to last 4 years it will likely cut within 2 years except you’re vigilant and change it on time. The 6PK in that belt code is pointing at the number of grooves on the spinning pulleys of your power steering pump, compressor, alternator, water pump and crankshaft where the belt loops around and sits If you’ve been using a 6PK in your vehicle before and look closely you’d notice that the belt is not covering the whole surface of the pulleys It makes it undersized and will depreciate faster All I’m saying is just make sure you get the 1830 part right. If you don’t use the exact 1830 size of belt, you’re looking for trouble 1 Like |

It will work. Highest when it starts getting old if you switch on the vehicle in the mornings it could make screeching noises for a few seconds or when you on the ac or swim water too. Just don’t go lower than the stock number for the belt. |

Please help gurus. I got a tokunbo freshly cleared 2008 accord i4 in December. The car was showing 30% oil life, but the oil was not short on the dipstick. I got total 5w30 oil on jumia on 17th December. I just checked the dipstick now and saw the oil is below the low mark, in just one month. Oil life is on 70% in just one month of usage. I have travelled 1,200 miles after the service. Is it that I got a fake oil? I am confused. I also noticed that the cold start noise frequency has increased. |

234GT: What's the oil on your fuel cover It's definitely not 5w 30 It's 5w 2o Nevertheless I feel it calculates after miles / distance driven Might be wrong though |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 12:15pm On Jan 15, 2023 |
234GT: It’s not the oil. That’s just the way your vehicle was programmed. Your particular model of vehicle was not mandated to use synthetic engine oil from the factory hence the reason for the quick decline in its oil life percentage. It is calculating as if you’re using conventional oil. This doesn’t mean you can’t use the synthetic oil if you wish. What you should know is that conventional oil is best used for 3 months, 3,000 miles or 5,000 kilometers max. Synthetic oil can ideally go for 6 months, 5,000 miles or 7,500 - 8,000 kilometers max. If you use synthetic and have not yet driven to 4,500 - 5,000 miles or 7,500 - 8,000 kilometers and your oil life monitor is already below 10% you can just reset it and keep counting your mileage till it reaches the distance for a change. If you use regular conventional or semi-synthetic oil you should strictly follow your oil life monitor and change it when it reaches 10%. Concerning your startup noise, you need to give an in-depth explanation for us to understand what exactly this noise is. 1 Like 1 Share |

Sportwin: 5w20 was formulated for cold climates and to conserve fuel. Those were the main reasons it was recommended for for use that 2008 accord engine. 5w30 on the other hand gives a better protection against wear and tear concerning the engines pistons, rings and cylinder walls plus our climate here is not really one that calls for the 5w20 weight of oil. Most newer vehicles that specify the use of 5w20 have engines that were created utilizing tighter tolerances between moving parts in the engine. The same engine bearing tolerances that you’d find in the 2008- 2012 accord is also found in the earlier 2003 - 2007 model engines and when those engines were produced they all specified 5w30 for their use. Today we have oils that are so thin that when you pour it into your crankcase you’d be hearing noises as if it’s water your pouring into your engine |

Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 12:33pm On Jan 15, 2023 |
williams20: Tpms has to do with your tyre pressures. If it’s displaying an error then it means one or more of the 4 sensors integrated into the tyre valves are either damaged or missing. To fix this issue you need to check each wheel for damaged sensors, purchase new sensors and recalibrate them with your brainbox. Your vsa error is the same things as an abs error on other vehicles. There is a problem with your abs system. A technician has to peruse its associated components to pinpoint its issue. BUT those two errors above are less important than your check engine light. You need to scan your vehicle to know exactly what it’s calling your attention to before it gets any worse. |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 12:37pm On Jan 15, 2023 |
234GT: Yes I understand. The truth is that no two engines are the same and no two engine oils function alike. Some get short over time and some stay the same level. Some make your engine noisier and some quiet it down too. Now that you’ve realized that Total’s 5w30 brand of whatever oil you ordered dried up in your engine without leaking or burning then it’s time to try another similar viscosity oil product from a very good brand. |

Hello everyone. I hear this strange loud noise when I'm on idle and vibrating mostly in traffic the sound is from the bonnet particularly loud when the AC is on, I have spent almost 100k plus changing all 3 engine mounts, and trying different recommendations from mechanics it stop for like a week and then starts again. When you drive for 30-1hr the noise becomes louder in traffic. I don't even know if it's engine knocking sounds, but it's been like this for about a year. I decided to just ignore and move on cause every other thing works fine in the car just the stupid sounds. The sound is like 2 objects clashing on each other. Please help |
