Am not happy about this news. Soludo should leave Nnamdi kanu matter and face governance. Let the afaraukwu Terrorist suffer well for dss prison.

You have not clear the Criminals killing in your state and you to be surtey for a Terrorist that is responsible for loss of lives and destruction in the South East.

Other South East governors are not calling for Kanu release, why soludo dey carry the matter for head ?

He should not make Anambra state a point of attack by ipob terrorists to negotiate and pressure for Kanu release.

Let Abia state Politicians push for Kanu release. Senator OUK is doing that. He is in APC and want to be surtey for Nnamdi kanu. That better for him.

Let Ikpeazu, Orji Uzor kalu, TA Orji and Enyinnaya abaribe push for Kanu release. Let them use Abia state to negotiate for Kanu release.

This is very unnecessary

Of course you wouldn't be happy.....no suprises here1

You are the one that revels in higlighting and posting stories and reports of (imported and engineered) insecurity in the south-east....esp' Anambra state, just so you can give traction to the wicked narrative you want put out there that 'the south-east is insecure'! All this is so you can blame Mazi Kanu, IPOB and ensure there's a low turnout of voters in the upcoming presidential elections in the region! Now Governor Soludo is wisely proposing a solution that could help douse tension and remove the 'excuse' vile 5th-columnists and impostors like you give for causing bloodshed and insecurity in the south-east, you're now throwing a hissy-fit and telling him to 'mind his own business'!? shocked If the political elite and other leaders in the south-east aren't at the forefront of trying to find a solution to the problems confronting the region, is it outsiders you expect to do so!?

Different people with different perspectives to issues. Igbos leaders should call for release of kanu

I'm certain he's a multiple-monikered, Igbo-hating bigot and part of the malevolent group trying to 'deal with the south-east and teach us a lesson for daring to want to secede and for daring to have a go at being president of Nigeria when said position is reserved for the other two major ethnicities'! I've got the measure of him!

Most of those Igbo haters reason through the anus. It's actually a total waste of time to engage them because they are too daft and blinded by hate to reason what is often so obvious to everyone.

I have wondered why they have not seen the handwriting on the wall that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has been drawing their attention to.
Nigerians are just like Russians that believe they can forcibly hold Ukraine within one country called "Russia" so that Ukrainians will be second-class citizen-slaves to them forever.

What Obasanjo has tried to tell them without being a doomsday's prophet is that such a structure in human history is untenable and unsustainable. Not to mention that it ultimately leads to bloodshed until those who promote it come to the realization that everyone can either live as equal citizens or that the so-called kingdom is destined to collapse ultimately.

Today, the targets are the "Policemen" and "Soldiers" deployed to the region to kill people in the east. Soon the anger will spill over and the target would become ordinary people from the "perceived enemy tribe" being targeted. So that they will raise the stakes and force retaliatory attacks from other regions of Nigeria which would hasten the collapse of the kingdom. It's sad that most of them cannot read between Obasanjo's words and his effort to help save Nigeria.

There is absolutely every need for FG to release that guy.
I AM NOT A FAN OF MAZI NNAMDI KANU.But the laws of the country must be obeyed by everyone. Including those who see themselves as the overlords in government.

I remember a few years back, we were here pleading with the army and Police to stop shooting youths going for their peaceful protests called "Evangelism". Then we warned that shooting them when they were peacefully protesting will drive them underground to arm themselves with weapons and hit back at the army and police. Of course, it seemed like a fairytale that they would arm themselves and hit back, until the phenomenon of "Unknown gunmen" became an everyday word in Nigeria.

Without any change in the polity, and with continued incarceration of MNK, they will force the hoodlums to raise the stakes for all of us by forcing the start of targeted ethnic attacks in the various regions. So that retaliatory attacks in various regions would make the country even more unstable and untenable. I don't know why it is sooooo difficult for the rulers of Nigeria to see these dangers and address them before it is too late to avoid.

I posted this on the Ebonyi thread and felt it would be good to repost it on other south-east state threads as well so we can have a constructive discussion on how to improve on our cities and make them world-class.

I wanted to upload two YouTube clips of Port Harcourt and Abakaliki so we could make a comparative analysis of the two cities to see what the Ebonyi state gov't can improve on to make Abakaliki look even better. I'm impressed with how Wike has improved the aesthetis, ambience, cleanliness, greenery and order of Port Harcourt, and there's a lot the state gov'ts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Imo and Abia can borrow from Rivers state to improve on our major cities in the south-east.

Rivers state receives much more by way of federal allocation, 13% derivation and IGR than any state in the south-east, so it would be unfair to expect major cities in the south-east to look as good as Port Harcourt. However, there are little things we could do to improve on our cities and make them look almost as good (and in the case of Owerri and Enugu....even as good) as Port Harcourt.

In Port Harcourt, notice how there's hardly any unsightly bare/muddy open spaces by the road sides. For the most part, it's either sidewalks (with underground drainage) and carpet grass. This makes the street look neat and clean, and limits the dust/mud/sediment that we normally see on roads in our cities in the south-east as well as limits the amount of dust in the atmosphere. Also, notice the roads are swept, marked and (for the most part) have working traffic lights. There's also little roadside clutter and unsightly signages as commercial activities are better organised. These are all achieved by having a working and committed state and local gov't. You normally see the no-nonsense governor going about and reading the riot act where necessary so everyone knows nonsense wouldn't be tolerated. You hardly see the governors of Enugu, Imo and Abia going about and keeping everyone on their toes...only the governors of Anambra and Ebonyi are doing well in this regard.

Notice there's a planned and concerted efforts at tree planting, and not the half-assed attempt we see in our cities in the south-east. With Abakaliki, one can notice Umahi likes to concrete over everywhere and doesn't seem to care much about organised tree planting (like we see done in Abuja) or covering open grounds on the sides of the road with well manicured carpet grass. There's been some attempt at tree palnting in Abakaliki, but as i said, it's more of a half-hearted attempt and not uniform.

I remember when Amaechi was governor of Rivers state, there was a gov't policy that perimiter walls of individual and commercial properties should be at a certain distance from the roads, and this led to the demolition of the walls of many properties in Port harcourt as greedy landlords had built their perimeter walls almost on top of the roads in the city. This is another problem we have with our cities in the south-east...walls of properties being built as close to the roads as possible, and the unwillingness of our gov'ts to use the Amaechi approach so space can be created for sidewalks and some greenery. However, cities like Enugu, Owerri, Aba and Onitsha have planned parts that conform with this rule of setting perimeter walls of properties at some distance away from the roads.

Finally, like i acknowledged before, south-east states are not as wealthy as Rivers state, but if we're going to use localised labour and localised contractors to do some of our roads, then we need to get them to improve on their finishing. Ebonyi state gov't has tried in the use of localised labour for the construction of its major and inner-city roads, but you can see they don't compare with the roads JB built in and around Port Harcourt city. State gov'ts can get some experienced civil engineers from these multi-national civil engineering coys to impact their knowledge on our own homegrown engineers so the finishing of their jobs can be just as good as the ones done by foreigners.

Wike has really done so well in PH. The next administration will now focus on places like Oyigbo, Eleme and other locations outside Port Harcourt city. Wike really tried even though he had big allocation, but he did his best. Hopefully the SE will get its act together. Soludo has already kickstarted almost statewide infrastructural reconstruction. We want to see others follow. Umahi has equally tried, hopefully his successor will continue from where he stop

God Bless you for steering this thread back to what it used to be in its hey days! Aside Sullivan chime, most of the recent south east governors have abysmal records in terms of urban renewal projects. You made a few good observations about cities like Port Harcourt. State governors do not take urban planning seriously in Nigeria. Yet Cities should be top of their agenda because this is what attracts business activity and investment into a state. The business activity of a city is 100x that of a village or rural town. Take cities seriously and setup the institutions!

Obiano did a good job by creating Awka Capital Territory Development Agency (ACTDA) which for all intents and purposes was a development boards for Awka supposed to be staffed with experts in planning and infrastructure. But he did not fund it! After building flyovers, his works commissioner concentrated on Aguleri and environs. But ACTDA should be funded with 10-20 billion budget every year and be the arrowhead for everything to do with road, sanitation, building approvals, land registration, waste management, markets, transportation, vehicle permits and licensing, business licensing, taxation for Awka and environs. It should be run by professional road engineers, town planners, water engineers, waste experts and tax professionals not politicians.

ACTDA should be the precursor to establish Onitsha Urban Territory Development Agency (OUTDA) and Nnewi Urban Territory Development Agency (NUTDA) with exactly the same functions to make these cities actually act like cities and not places that harbor touts and allow lawless free-for-all chaotic street trading. Port Harcourt despite all its wealth does not have the vast wheelbarrow and street trading rubbish you see in Anambra. PH does not have an equivalent agbero infestation to Upper Iweka or Eke-Awka because they do not allow it.

Anambra state governors need to sit up and start hiring experts and not people that wear apga uniform for sensistive positions.

Unless there’s another portharcourt, the one I know and live in has more tout than that of Anambra, tho I love what wike did of recent by building flyovers and expanding some roads especially aba road, the video the igboson posted is concentrate on aba road from garrison to government house which is the most beautiful place in rivers state

Places like rumuola junction, mile 1,2,3, ship junction, rumuokoro junction/flyover, emele junction, eliozu flyover etc are litter with touts, open markets, indescrimanting parking of keke, taxi, bus etc

No city is free from that in Nigeria, what the poster posted is government areas, is like posting okpara square in Enugu down to government house, you won’t see any open gutters, touts, etc

All the same, portharcourt is a great city. Happy Sunday bruh

Governor Chukwuma Soludo marks the Nigerian 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

— Lays wreaths in Honour of our gallant Soldiers who have paid the supreme price.

January 15 is the day set aside across the country to remember our fallen heroes in the armed forces.

I don't want to post any of the videos here to illustrate the point, so as not to be misunderstood. However, if you watch all the clips posted on that Youtube Channel (Travel and See), you will observe the clear DIFFERENCE between the chaotic and overcrowded issues we need Soludo to address in Anambra cities.

Yes, these issues are hard to raise due to trolls that will immediately attack you for suggesting any improvement to the quality of life and ambiance of Anambra cities. But, the truth is that only ABA fares worse than the Anambra cities in his city-to-city videos. Yet, Aba did have a huge improvement in most parts of the Asa road - Port Harcourt road shown in the Aba video. You could also see that they were building gutters to address the perennial flooding issues on Aba roads.

We MUST continue to advocate for the enforcement of BAN on street trading, encroachment of traders unto the roads, and parking of disused broken-down vehicles along Anambra city roads, thus blocking off half of the already narrow roads. That archaic behavior of traders MUST stop!

The only problem I have with you is your hypocrisy. You are from Delta state but of all the posts you have ever made on nairaland, no one has ever seen you make one post about your state. You are always fixated on Anambra as if you are stateless.

Despite Asaba being a capital of a major oil producing state, one can see that Asaba is nothing but a glorified village. Awka beats Asaba 100x. We can compare the flyovers, ICC, general infrastructures, etc. No city under consideration fares any better than any Anambra city. Anambra is without doubt the most developed state in the region.

Asaba and warri are both nothing to write home about, they are littered with dilapidated roads, chaotic, unorganised, etc, but no one has ever seen you calling out your incompetent leaders in that state.

You always want to tell our governments what to do, what have you told your own governments to do in delta state? You always want to suggest as of nairaland is the office of the governor, but no one has ever seen your post suggesting solutions to any of the numerous problems ravaging your backward Delta state

Now let's look at uyo and Asaba, these are the two capitals of a major oil producing states. From the video by the same vlogger, Asaba looks like a rural area compare to Uyo, but you ediot is never worried.

SOLUTION IS HERE

If you've been moving around the Anambra State Capital lately you'd notice most damage spots, potholes, bad roads are being fixed by the state govt.

The palliative works are not limited to the State Capital alone, other major roads are being repaired to ease movement.

It may also interest you to know that work is presently ongoing at 261 kilometers of road projects awarded by the Gov Charles Chukwuma Soludo govt.

The disruptive change is here!

If you don't BAN or restrict street trading you remain primitive. No high end retail with beautifully designed shops. No comfortable restaurants. No you will perennially cater to wheelbarrows and shacks and primitive shops and that is what you will get with Onitsha and Nnewi being a prime example.

The big problem with Anambra today is that it has attracted all the jobless people and low-end individuals from all over the southeast and indeed Nigeria to come and hustle by setting up illegal shacks all over the state. The sad aspect is that these people also refuse to pay taxes to help the state grow its IGR. Meanwhile, the high-end individuals continue to leave the state either due to every Monday sit at home or the increasing practicality of living in Asaba while working in the state.

Generally, we know there are state capital cities created in 1967, 1976, 1987, 1991, and 1996! The earlier cities created as state capitals are generally more developed than the younger state capitals. Soludo's attention to Anambra cities is commendable. But, it does not take away the fact that subsequent regimes totally abandoned Anambra cities to the dogs. Even the youngest state capital cities in Nigeria such as Yenagoa, Gombe, Abakaliki etc that were created on October 1, 1996, have since surpassed some that were created 5 years earlier on August 21, 1991! Hopefully, Soludo will continue his urban renewal to get the Anambra capital city and other key cities to what they should be.

Ewu, the same person you named night owl, is the same person you now converse with just to feel safe here. I promise you, your agenda won't work here so far as I am here.

Let's face the sad reality in Delta state. Warri is a no go area due to high level of insecurity but you are not worried. Major oil companies have moved out of Warri to PH due to high insecurity, miscreants, etc that have made the state very unsafe.

Illegal oil bunkering has destroyed environment and polluted water in delta state but you are not worried.

Asaba has remained a glorified village with the worst infrastructures that ever existed but you are not worried.

Anambra is doing great as a state and has continued to attract the best and brightest human capital.

Anambra has remained the most developed state in igboland + delta state.

Cjrane2:

The big problem with Anambra today is that it has attracted all the jobless people and low-end individuals from all over the southeast and indeed Nigeria to come and hustle by setting up illegal shacks all over the state. The sad aspect is that these people also refuse to pay taxes to help the state grow its IGR. Meanwhile, the high-end individuals continue to leave the state either due to every Monday sit at home or the increasing practicality of living in Asaba while working in the state.

Cjrane2, all the years you wasted on this thread was when Shell left Warri despite delta being a major oil producing state. Shell left warri due to high insecurity, but you are camped in Anambra thread constituting nuisance just to feel happy

Cjrane2, for goodness sake, this is Warri a major oil city, one would think that Warri should be rivalling Port Harcourt in development, but it is not to be, but you shamelessly camp in Anambra thread 24/7 while hiding the mess in your state. The next I will do now is to open a state thread for delta state. I Don ready for your nuisance.

Oh my goodness. For people that doesn't know, this is Asaba the capital of Delta state. How cam an ediot like Cjrane2 convince me that this is not a village. See how disorganised, dilapidated and rural a state capital of a major oil producing state looks like. Tufia

Cjrane2, Delta state was created many years before Akwaibom state, but today even Ikot ekpene is better developed than Asaba not to talk of Uyo. We must continue to say the facts the way they are.

XerXerz:
Cjrane2, I am ready for this debate. When you look at these three cities, one will start asking questions about Delta state and where their allocation goes. We can see the effect of oil revenues in Uyo. Can we say the same for Asaba and Warri?

Cjrane2, I will open a new thread on nairaland to compare Uyo and Asaba. It is time people like you should start questioning your leaders in delta state
