Lancashire Police are "looking into" Rishi Sunak after he was filmed not wearing a seat belt while a passenger in a moving car.

The prime minister has apologised for the incident, saying it was an "error of judgement" to take his seat belt off to film a social media clip.

Not wearing a seat belt carries a maximum £500 fine.

Mr Sunak "fully accepts this was a mistake and apologises", his spokesman told reporters.

The BBC understands the prime minister was in Lancashire when the video was filmed, during a trip across the north of England.

The video - to promote the government's latest round of "levelling up" spending - was posted on Mr Sunak's Instagram account earlier.

In the clip , which lasts around a minute, Mr Sunak can be seen addressing the camera while the car travels along, with police motorbikes briefly appearing in the background.

Passengers caught failing to wear a seat belt when one is available, unless covered by a valid exemption, can be given an on-the-spot £100 fine. The fine can increase to £500 if the case goes to court.

A country where laws work. In Nigeria his likes will kill pedestrians and nothing will happen. The police dare not stop councilor for traffic offense, without the councilor flexing his or her political muscle not to talk of the governor or president.

That's in a country where people are held accountable; where there are working systems! This is no news in Nigeria; our leaders are perpetual law breakers undecided

You see how young and agile the PM is? Yet someone who is not senile enough to issue coherent speeches is contesting the position of President.
The also annoying is the person above me, a young man approximately in his mid-40s is supporting him.
Sentiments aside, I got employed by this present government, but it's appalling the level they have taken us to, from the top that we were.
Do not forget to vote competence, do not allow anyone sway your disposition via religious and sentimental lines. It is true that this country needs to alter its present course and steer towards nobility, security, abundance, lower cost of living, etc. But that can only be achieved if we vote in someone who understands the job.

I might have to say that going by the campaigns so far, it is clear to the blind and audible to the deaf that a candidate who is not coherent enough to even his supporters is not the right person, a candidate who has health issues isn't the right person for the job of President in this country. So many instances when security men had to shut down camera recordings because something was not right with a candidate.
Please let us stay away from nepotic politics.

More importantly, it is not a VOTE-OR-DIE affair

Joe Biden is the president of the most powerful country in the world. Joe Biden is older than Tinubu.

Because you're his child's age!
Joe Biden's age, and his biography contains all his details of life, from birth till date, yet you're comparing him to someone who's background is shrouded in lies!

Do you know the age of Tinubu's first child? Do you have any idea?

Interesting!
If this had happened in naija, the aide to the leader would have defended such actions and questioned whether it was the first time such had happened!

Britain: A country where things work because they have leaders like Peter Obi.

Nigeria: where things hardly work because they have leaders like Buhari, Tinubu and Atiku

We have the opportunity to make things work like what you read in the article, it starts with your vote.

A normal act here in Naija. Don't expect this type of civilization in your lifetime if you are still planning on voting PDAPC.

A sane society like this was built because majority of the people living their are sane and know that picking a leader that is not only intelligent but energetic and integrity filled is the right way to go.

Not like Nigerian here where the elites of a certain region has weaponized poverty and religion in their region and use it as a tool to keep the whole country at seige.

Obasanjo picked Peter Obi because he found the above bolded important qualities in him. If we miss Peter Obi simply know it is finished.

Atleast I'm certain PDAPC Atiku and BAT) don't have energy anymore and also far from integrity.

I will not vote for or advice someone to vote for a fanatical religionist, Muslim-mulsim candidate (Tinubu) that presented the same manifesto Buhari gave us in 2015 and have also vowed to continue from where Buhari stopped. God forbid.

My brothers vote wisely oo!!!

Only seatbelt o. Meanwhile people like Tinubu and Atiku are running for president in Nigeria without clearing their names and some fools are supporting them. Some people will always be best friends with poverty.

Good

This is the rule of law that Yar'Adua and Jonathan mostly insisted on. Imagine if that man had stayed alive long enough to steer Nigeria right.

No minding the fact that he was seated at the back seat of the car...
In my country, seat belt is not for people sitting at the back seat.
Even law enforcement agencies and law makers don't use seat belt when they sit at the back seat.

If it was in Nigeria, DSS would shut down the news station that filmed the president without seat belt. The owner would be abducted without trial and fined heavily.

We have a long way to go in this our so called democracy.

This I have seen.
