Start from the basics. You seem to be skipping some foundational PHP knowledge.

There are many ways of building the same thing when it comes to programming. If you see someone build something using a different approach to yours , try to study it by googling everything word you don’t understand in the code . That’s how you learn

Lecturers who know why dont need notes. Ordinary typographical errors can scatter the life of a how learner.

As a beginner, there is procedural PHP which is simple line of codes with functions here and there. That is where you should start which can help you build simple applications.

Then learn Object Oriented Programming which entails advance stuff like encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism and lots more. These will make building complex application easier, scalable and maintainable.

Finally, after mastering OOP, u can get your hands dirty on frameworks like codeigniter, laravel, which even make your application easier if you are building large, enterprise, applications.

Take your time, set goals and practise over and over. I wish the best
