The major obstacles to the development of local government areas in Nigeria are our state governors. They want to perpetually be in total control of their local government officers. If they can control them financially then they will be able to control them politically.

I have always said it that one major hindrance to Nigeria's growth are the state governors. They are vile, wicked, callous, nefarious and shockingly evil. They are against Nigeria's development because of there selfish ambitions and fear of losing there control over the local areas. I pray Nigeria wakes up one day and see that our number problem are the state governors.
Agreed. They are a very big problem in Nigeria's ascendence to glory. Very short sighted and selfish lot.

This is a decree not a constitution
Re: Constitution Review: National Assembly bow To Govs, Step Down LG Autonomy bill by Eau01: 7:59pm On Jan 24, 2023
Do i need anyone to tell me that, the senate, House of Rep. and the state house of assemblies are the enemies of masses. The governors are known for mounting pressure on FG to share the money that is sharable while they are now holding the money belong to LG . Hope we won't blame Buhari for this

One continues to wonder why local government accounts are still controlled by state governments.

State governments are unable to bring developments to the doorsteps of the citizens. Communities suffer largely because of poor funding. Funds which under normal circumstances should be allocated to local councils to make communities better are controlled by state governments.

Unfortunately we find the Senate filled with ex governors, who work hand in hand with governors and state assemblies to block the allocation from going straight from the federation account to the local government accounts.

Sincerely Nigeria can get better if this correction is made.
What if we threw out this decree we keep amending from the soldiers and build a new one

This is simple..the local government chiefs.... chairmen and councillors should come together and liaise with the senators and representatives to push for a total separation of their funding from the control of governors.... Local.govts are supposed work hand in hand with both the governors and more importantly..the federal representatives so that the people can feel the presence of the federal at.the grassroots.... So it is to the benefit of.the senators and reps..to have independent local govts. So that they can better deliver the dividends of democracy at home

It's not even about APC, it's about we has a people. Both the wicked governors and senators are Nigerians now. How are we sure that if we kick them out this same rubbish will be resolved??.

^^^
It is.

The APC has a legislative majority at federal and state levels. If this matter of constitutional reform was important to the APC, better believe it - the bills would have been passed long since - and LG autonomy would be a reality.

When its own political interests are at stake, the APC is remarkably quick to take action. When it wants to win elections by hook or by crook - APC members are in full alignment across the spectrum - state, federal, executive and legislative. But now that the issue is laws for the public good, we are being treated to cock and bull stories.

There are specific wrongdoers in this case. The APC is largely responsible for the failure of this bill.

We are not helpless in this matter. We do have agency.

We can and must hold our leaders accountable. That's what people in other countries do and it seems to be working for them, however imperfectly. We have to first of all try - we have to do the work!!!

Rediculous to think that LGA can be autonomous when an LGA is a 5percent of any state. Kudos to the governors.

State assemblies are the most mumus in the world. The one that concern them directly, they refused to pass it, they still want to be under the armpit of their state governors.
These state governors doesn't just want this third tier of government to work at all. All in all I blame the state legislators for putting themselves in the mess of governors.

Do u knw the reason? The reason is because most of this NA members are governorship candidates of their various parties and they can't afford to risk what they stand to lose if they eventually win. Our politicians are the most short sighted pple in the world. They don't knw what planning 4 the future means, they only think nd deliberate abt what they stand to gain in the present
Sorry oga, our politicians are not short sighted. They are wicked

Nigeria's Democracy just suffered another huge setback...

Who will rescue this Country for heaven's sakehuh

Amendments that favours legislative and judicial autonomy were passed, but amendment that will bring governance closer to the masses, Local Government Autonomy was rejected.... wickedness!

The politicians are not ready to free this Country..

Sad!

Very Sad!!!
You can now see that they don't really care about the people.
They don't really care about us.

A governor that didn't do LG elections shouldn't be blamed too.
Because he was still abiding strictly within the provisions of the constitution.

Very shameful indeed. Where is Nigeria heading to? An Atiku presidency won't take this, all governor's must seat up. Atiku remains the only candidate who continually makes his stands clear on RESTRUCTURING.

A vote for Atiku is a vote for true federalism.
Can Atiku Override the System??

Realistically it's not actually totally wise to give LG absolute autonomy, it will be a recipe for disaster, however it can be done in such a way that the state govs won't have access to their funds like they do now thereby guaranteeing the effective running of LG..
Why is it that “Compulsory Publishing of ‘Audited’ Government Yearly Financial Reports (both for the FG and the States)” is not there in the amendment??

Local government chairmen are even worse than governors. Those guys rarely live within their locality cheesy
But the present constitution didn't give them any major work to be doing..
Their Few Functions (as could be seen in the Constitution) are being relegated to all these established agencies.
Thus, they are not doing anything again.

The party with a majority in the National Assembly and with the majority of governors and state houses of assembly is struggling to amend the constitution . Yet somebody who will have no governors and no National Assembly members is making promises that can only be delivered via a constitutional amendment.

Even worse, his followers believe he can deliver the promises without national Al assembly or governors supporting him.

Let’s not forget you need N/A to pass ordinary budget, approve ministers etc etc.
Old Structure Is Talking.

Right in your face,, the Old Structure Just Failed.
(And you called it “Struggling”)

We will vote out the OLD STRUCTURE.!!
