Golden ball or no Golden ball, it doesn't change the fact that he's the greatest football player of all time and it doesn't change the fact that he has won the greatest trophy in football. It will take a thousand years before a single player breaks all of Messi records and I doubt if that will ever happened in this life .

Doesnt this news (if true sef) even debunk all those stup1d rumours peddled by Pendulums that the 2014 golden ball was Blatter's gift to Messi?

Contenders for 2014 Golden ball were Robben, Muller and Messi. Messi had more goals and assists than Robben and got to the final so he edges out Robben (both of them had no KO goal). So that leaves Messi vs Muller and though Muller had slightly more G/A than the GOAT, he was merely part of a well oiled German team that would have won the cup without him.

Argentina on the other hand wouldnt even have gotten out of the group stages without Messi's output. Quality of Messi's play at that WC also dwarfs that of Muller and only Robben had similar impact out of the three. So I'm sure that was the objective basis the Committee rightly adjudged Messi as the best.

10 years from now, you can create another thread and wail about how Messi didn't deserve the 2022 WC. The GOAT doesn't care and neither do we!

In 2014, James Rodriguez was the only player that would have given Messi a good run but Columbia were knocked out in the quarter finals.

In 2022, Messi was all round better than every player in Qatar. He was scoring and pulling the strings for Argentina.
