I Just arrived in Gombe to continue my discussions with Nigerians on the way forward to a national rebirth. The vast arable lands of the North is a new vista that must be opened up to serve Nigeria and Africa. The agricultural potentials are infinite. -PO

The problem with Obi and his promises is that the biggest problem with agriculture is the land use act. You can’t change the lane use act without support of the National Assembly…he has no members in the National Assembly.

Secondly, the kind of agriculture he is promising does not create jobs because truly efficient agriculture is mechanized. To expand agriculture in a way that employs rural dwellers is to create an inefficient agricultural sector that is not competitive internationally.

Small holding farms of 1 or 2 hectares creates lots of rural jobs but the farm output cannot compete internationally so our agricultural output cannot compete on the export market or compete with imports unless you close borders….which is why Buhari closed the borders….a very inefficient way of running the agric industry. The kind of agriculture that can compete internationally requires large scale farms in the thousands of hectares where 2 or 3 tractors, harvesters, platers do the job of 1000 people. Furthermore it requires amendments to the land use act.


You can’t have it both ways. We have been attempting this agric revolution since 1977 under Obasanjo…it is not rocket science….. it always fails. Nonetheless every presidential candidate always promises without understanding the issues.
