Op please take a decision base on advice you get from this public forum, because a lot of people do not know what they are a saying here.
I cannot imagine how someone will say Chemical Engineering is narrow. Bro, do you know what you are saying. and you are saying Agric engineering is more broad than Chemical Engineering, I laugh at you guys. for your info man I studied Chemical Engineering and I can tell you, process engineering, Agric Engineering, Petroleum and some part of material engineering are all under Chemical Engineering. As a matter of fact, Chemical Engineering is too broad and don't ever call it narrow again.

This guy is truly a big joke. Just say you were too clueless. because if you opened your mind to study you will not come out to spill this trash from your mouth. Those friends of yours do not know the course they studied.
Okay
Am not a graduate of either agric engineering or chemical engineering
But was only talking of work employment opportunities

Go for Chemical Engineering.. Those who are suggesting Statistics are considering the few employed ones, and not thousands roaming the streets. How can you compare Statistics with Chemical Engineering? A degree in Actuary is much better than Statistics, but no way near Chemical Engineering. And Agric Engineering is too narrow, and no jobs for them. Most of the time, Mechanical are taken in their stead because they are allied, but ME is more broad - based. Chemical engineering is good, not just the best in your list. IT IS THE NO ONE COURSE SOUGHT FOR IN OIL AND GAS JOBS.
They don't know. Alot of people went to school and do not know jack about what they studied. I can imagine. I remember before I entered the university, one of my elder relatives who studied mechanical Engineering advised me not to study mechanical Engineering ever, but he said I can studied any other kind of engineering, he gave me the advice before he was unable to succeed with the course and he kept saying mechanical engineering is a useless course to study. But after my graduating from, Chemical engineering myself I found out the advice I had from him was them wrong, i have been in the oil and gas industry for over 15years now and I know for sure the two best engineering course that sells in Nigeria are Chemical and Mechanical Engineering, Electrical also sells but you have to major in instrumentation and you will be a hotcake for oil and gas companies, but it is easy for either a mechanical or Chemical Engineer to head other engineering discipline.

Go for physics or chemical engineering and you can transfer in 200 level to computer science.

Lastly, agric engineering is far broader than chemical engineering (quote me anywhere). This guy is truly a fool. Now I know where your suffering came from. You went to school to study Chemical Engineering and you in turn do not know what you studied. Illiteracy is your biggest problem. And for your information i never had any connection before getting any job in the oil and gas industry. As a chemical engineer it is too easy for you to major in Process engineering or take some addition course that will give you entry level into process engineering. just go on google today and type process engineering vacancies in Nigeria and you will see thousands and most of those positions take months to find candidate in Nigeria to fill up. So, your problem dude is you lack information, and you are not willing to learn, so you will die in your ignorance. If you have any experience in process |engineering today i can fix you up immediately in one of the top oil and gas company operating in port Harcourt. ignorance is a disease my friend.

Keep your rubbish job offer. My current salary as a software developer is more than enough to compensate for whatever nonsense the oil and gas industry will offer .

Secondly ,I have no any apologies for saying chemical engineering is useless because the reality here is that in Nigeria, chemical engineers are not needed for two reasons :

1. Nigeria does not produce anything other than corruption and illiteracy , and if you were to dedicate your time to studying such in the university , you would later realize that there is :

A. Serious lack of job opportunities (and don't tell me you can create your own job opportunities, because that is often too capital intensive)

B. Unfavorable employment opportunities being given individuals or disciplines not related to the chemical industry, which often stems from godfatherism and connections (a fine example would be your president grin )

2. The future of engineering lies in artificial intelligence, and that means that the demand for chemical engineers will likely die out in the next 5-10 years because many chemical processes (especially in chemical engineering) can be automated by machine and computers . Which is why on the rigs , the oyibos automate everything , while the rest of you just do administrative work that can be done by anyone who read administrative studies grin

LOL. He's neither prepared nor fit for it. Can you see they're 'helping' him. So, he would have been ' helped' to secure the OL level results too. I don't understand how a science student would not have basic ideas of relative job opportunities of all science and engineering courses. But all of them are that way now. That's where Nigeria is situated now, and it's terrible.

Chemical engineering is useless oga. Especially in Nigeria where outdated knowledge is still being taught year in year out
If outdated knowledge is taught why can't you go and upgrade yourself, you want to be spoon fed like a baby that you are abi. In computer science they also teach outdated knowledege like pascal, Fortran and C language when the world has since dumped those useless language. but today we know of lots of guys here on NL who are making lots of cash through coding and tech, they never got that knowledge from studying computer science, anybody who study computer science in any Nigeria university and choose to reply on that knowledge alone without upgrading himself will definitely die broke. Just like back in the days of cyber cafe when I met a computer science graduate who could not even open an email mail and rather was seeking for help from the cyber cafe attendant, and you are telling me that guy will ever get a job with computer science. I know for sure you are that kind of guy.

Are you sure you really have a chemical engineering degree? Chemical engineers are highly sought after, especially those that practice as process engineers. I am talking from experience. cool

Many of these nutcases supporting education don't even realize that the people who are even educating them are poorer than the word poor. I remember passing my department during my undergraduate days and saw the kind of cars my lecturers were driving , it was then I knew that school was a scam. Just imagine seeing a department full of very unattractive cars that were run down and primitive.
Chai....baba, it was there I thought to myself :" are these the people who society was telling me that they would teach me to make money through education ?" I was like, WTF!!! Na there I know say school was just one big scam used by globalist to keep people in line . Which is why I'll say it is far better to get a skill than to subscribe to one silly educational system that will drain and waste your years

Look at this illiterate dude. You said in your earlier post that you crammed all the heat transfer, Reynolds number etc., without actually having any understanding of their application in real life. So you are very clueless, that is why you cannot take simple advice, you want someone to spoon feed you. Coren and NSCHE does nothing for us engineering, getting them is just ceremonial in Nigeria, even though I have my COREN. The bottom line is you do not know what you studied, and you cannot upgrade yourself that is why you sound so frustrated. Everything is not about corruption, I started out in the oil and gas industry after my graduation as a helper with a monthly salary then of just N30,000 in an oil and gas construction site, that was where I got to meet lots of experience professional in the industries whose advice helped me to be where I am today. stop deceiving yourself, I have worked with multinationals more than Nigerian companies and I have delivered billions of dollar projects across the world. Keep whining about your failures blaming everyone else apart from yourself and you will remain where you are all your life forever. peace.

You are a pathological liar . No be you dey claim say you go link me with job for Port ? So how you take enter the job if not through connections. Okay then. Keep your functional brain to yourself then. Brain that you have been using to deceive yourself all these years and yet nothing to show for it. Keep deceiving yourself that only connection can get you a job, when you are not even ready to start from scratch to gain the experience. People like us have upgraded ourselves and we started from scratch to get to where we are today. but folks like you will keep wallowing in self-pity and ignorance and at the end nothing will come out of it. only pity.

Statistics. But prepare your mind to acquire these important skills while in school. They won't teach you in class. Ensure that you know python, Ms excel and sql very well. Also know how to write report and how to communicate with stakeholders. All of these will made you standout after graduation from Statistics.

You sound quite rude and arrogant bruv. To think you’ve got a narrative that anyone working in a good firm and had his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering is based on connection or influence, rather than by merit and weight of the degree is appalling.

Well, you made a salient point by saying chemical engineering industries are now computerised and automated, very correct, but unfortunately is not just chemical engineering sector, it cut across every field. A big water treatment plant that serve a whole canton, just right beside the company I worked with in Switzerland had just one staff, everything is automated. Google are about laying off 12,000 workforce, why?…Automation. All this ain’t purely chemical engineering companies. The biggest threat to humanity now is ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. CLassical AI is laying off workforce now, quantum AI already in the pipeline will chase away humanity. The statistics or data science and the rest just need one AI code to render thousands of them not so in demand. The good thing is that AI is technically still in its nascent stage, so those professions are still viable.

So in as much as you want to advise someone, don’t denigrate a profession because it didn’t work out for you.

My advice to any listening ear is that you can study anything you want to study and give it a touch of the most trending technology at that time, at the moment is AI, machine learning.

Did you read his initial post where he openly attacked me saying " I am not updated in the field "? Secondly , there is no way to verify what he is saying , because this is a public forum and all sorts of liars linger here just to sell of impressions of very fake lifestyles that do not correlate with the reality on ground . Lastly , I am aware that A.I is currently taking over all jobs and my suggestions to the OP was to stir him away from studying something that would become obsolete in the nearest future.

Go for chemical engineering

AI has taken over the job of Traditional statistician - Visuals//Digital data are new ways of managing data & reporting because data/information are not stored in the system and no hard copies in corporate offices, except for small businesses.

New name of modern statistician is Actuarist(digital) - This is different from the traditional Actuarial Scientist that work as Librarian

Digital Actuarist do not study it as a discipline in school but rather through a series of certifications

Right now the emphacy is on skill and not degree. If a school cert holder is a certified actuarist (knows the job) he/sh still earn 7 digits Monthly

I am not discouraging people from getting a degree, anyways.

All the best

You can still get admission to study your desired computer science, at Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba. It's one of the Delta State owned Universities.

All you need is to have scored at least 140 in JAMB, then do your change of School &/or Course at any JAMB Office and you're good to go. The school doesn't do post UTME, so once you process your change of choice form at JAMB your admission is certain.

There is a lack of chemical engineers in Canada, UK, USA and Australia.

That's why I said, if japa is a possibility, do it but maintain a high GPA.

Then be preparing to do a master's. Since you're interested in programming, you could double as a controls engineer (which is basically a chemical engineer that codes, plays with Simulink)

Chemical engineer in the "abroad".

Many many many chemical engineers are going straight to software if they can code a little, or consulting if their GPAs are super high.

Some even go into banking. Similar or higher starting salary, can work from home, location flexibility, etc. Especially if they have 2-4 years of experience.

Personally, I think that becoming a professional engineer (usually after 3 years experience here), becoming a senior engineer (usually 5+ years depending on the company), is the best option long term. The technical bonafides can never be taken away for life.

Depending on the field, my suggestion is:
- engineer
- professional/chartered engineer
- senior engineer
- move into projects or technical management
- after years as a manager or project manager/engineer, you can then move to non engineering project management, consulting, etc. With the technical bonafides, your earnin potential is unmatched, globally.
