It's normal.....there are some jobs abroad that would ask you to renounce one of your citizenships if you are dual national.....there are some countries that would only allow you to hold more than one nationality....if you live and work there and you want to naturalize then you let your Naija citizenship go.....na so
Will a Canadian or a German citizen who lives and works in Nigeria renounce their citizenship to pick up the Nigeria passport

The thing that is making harder for Nigerians to renounce their citizenship is because its only the president that would sign the renunciation certificate

You read the article but you still looked the other way with these your hypocritical comment above...

Why wont US citizens denounce citizenship to Nigeria?!

No big deal nah.
Did we not have some US and UK citizen back then that renounce their citizenship to join ISIS?

Renouncing citizenship differs from having dual citizenship.

This statistics is not about people that have japa or taken up citizenship of other countries ooo.

If they release that one you will just faint.

Even almost all of our politicians and their family members are citizens of other countries. They just did not renounce their Nigerian citizenship.

Remember that our former Senate President (Bukola Saraki) was said to be also a British citizen while he was even Nigerian Senate President.

Baba, stop the painting. Nigerians are tired. Did u read that just in 2022 alone, Nigerians renounced their citizenship more than the total number of those who did same in 7 years? hahahaahahaha! That is pure evidence of terrible state of the country.

In 2022 alone, immigration issued the highest number of passport in Nigeria's history. All these point to one thing:

Failure. We blacks hate truth and I dont know why.

Before those naive bigots and unpatriotic elements take it as music to their ears, 159 denouncing out of about 200m citizens over a decade period is very very small infinitessima. On the tiny list are mostly foreigners who naturalized , criminals, failed/ fraudulent inter-racial marriages and terrorists of ISIS,ISWAP group from the north and Ipob terrorist group from Igboland.

In all, it is good for Nigeria; mostly good riddance to bad rubbish. All the enemies of Nigeria will lose laa las. They always lose.
God bless Nigeria!

Real Nigerians do not denounce their membership of their family( no matter how horrible), ancestral land and inheritance to become second class citizens for life elsewhere like the prodigal son.

UNTIL YOU GO LIVE ABROAD THEN YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THAT NIGERIA IS A NICE COUNTRY WITH THE WAY YOU START SEEING THE WHITE PEOPLE FIGHTING TO GET THE NIGERIAN VISA TO COME TO NIGERIA

WHAT YOU NIGERIANS DON'T KNOW IS THAT THE NIGERIAN VISA IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT VISAS TO GET IN THE WORLD

HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE SEEN THE NIGERIAN VISA AND HOW SOPHISTICATED IT LOOKS?

You're right the Nigerian visa is difficult to get, I used to mobilize expat to come work in Nigeria, but there is a short cut with the TWP or business Visa

I am sure this number is much higher than reported. Why would any reasonable person want to be a Nigerian? If every Nigerian has a choice, I can guarantee you that not too many people would remain as citizens of this hopeless, useless, and failed country. What benefit has Nigerian citizenship conferred on anyone other than suspicion, scorn, and rejection? Absolutely NONE!

Lol your lies have been exposed.

According to him, 150 Nigerians renounced their citizenship between 2006 to 2021. In 2022, however, 159 Nigerians renounced their citizenships.
The Federal Government has said at least 159 Nigerians renounced their citizenship in 2022 alone.

KwaraRat:

See my post above.

Nobody has been granted such privelage.

The federal Gazzete on citizenship should carry such information you request and it can easily be obtained freely from the Ikoyi federal library .

Having googled countries that forbid dual citizenship , only the Bahamas or Qatar are worth relinquishing ones citizenship but to get both of their citizenship will be impossible for Qatarri and highly expensive for Bahamas.
