kokaneprodigy:That's the problem with Lokonga. Being a backup to someone considered as the fulcrum of the team can get into ones head if the mentality is low. I saw some good moves when he had the ball, but his off the ball movement was poor. This things have to do with psychology and one trying to be what he's not just to please his oga and team mates. The good news for him is that good positioning and movement can be learnt. It will only take time, focus, dedication and consistency. Filling in for Partey nor be small demand. He better decides to improve or just ask out. |

Jodera:He performed well playing no 8 in preseason. I wonder why he does get sub opportunities in that position. If I were him, I will demand specifically for that role for trials. |

I remember Jack wilshere said playing with Jens Lehman was like having Arsene Wenger on the pitch with you always barking out instructions. Abeg we do not need low mentality right now. The task before us is huge considering the kind of teams chasing us. Considering those invisible era, what odegard did was nothing. Martin Keown, Tony Adams, Patrick , Lauren, Jens. C'mon we see these guys bark at each other all the time but it was for a comon goal and that's to win. Winning was all that mattered. I'm happy when I see Ramsdale barking at his defenders and none of them have reacted badly, they just thumbs up pick it up and go about it again. No time for passengers abeg |

Jencejyde:The point Roland made was not about how Lokonga should react to the outburst, but if Odegaard acted well as a captain. These are two different things. |

Spy360:He can't cos Elneny was/is injured so he needs to fill in for Partey if he isn't available |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Jodera: 2:51pm On Jan 28, 2023 |
Make we Just get DM sha. Can't start complaining about Lokonga and how he costs us the way I did last season. Make we try person for there(like White) if Partey is not available. Every match day Lokonga starts, there must be criticism. This doesn't bode well for him |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Jencejyde(m): 2:57pm On Jan 28, 2023 |
Spy360:Baba I get the point clearly and like I said looking at it purely from a player perspective,I do not believe Odegard acted wrongly as a captain. In fact I personally feel he had to do it to instill back concentration and confidence. Sometimes as fans we will say our team is not doin well and there is no leadership because it seems everyone is just playing anyhow but when a player decides to show some leadership right there on the pitch, we bemoan the fact that it was done openly and could dampen the other players confidence. I'd rather bark at you when on the pitch in the heat of the moment so as to ensure that we walk out that pitch as winners rather than keep quiet and lose only to meet you later to say you could have done this or that. It's pointless after the loss. We are all entitled to how we feel leadership should be displayed but in this context based on what happens on the pitch, I believe Odegard did what was best in not just sambis interest but for the team. I believe you also see Ramsdale do this to his defenders. This is football and you can ge5 to some extreme adrenalin levels in a high stakes game . It's only normal to let out steam especially when you feel or see that another team mate is not pulling their weight in support of the cause.. |

Jencejyde:You made sense. I now agree with your Pov of Odegaard being right with what he did |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Roland17(m): 3:02pm On Jan 28, 2023 |
Jencejyde:I think Spy360 already addressed some. This isn’t about Awilo’s response, obvious poor play or mentality but about Odegaard’s reaction as CAPTAIN. For all I care, Turner, Xhaka, Gabu or even Saka can chew the kid up with that type of obvious reaction but not your captain. I mean even if he was upset, which he has every right to be, his outbursts, flaying of hands is the wrong reaction because you have ended up singling him out. We saw Turner’s performance yesterday and in previous games, why is he not going to yell at Turner? Leadership is different bro, it is totally different on so many levels. I have nothing against chewing the kid out and giving him an earful but that was not the place or how to do it. That was a teaching moment for Odegaard to help Awilo with his confidence and issues. You think Awilo doesn’t know he played poorly? You think he isn’t aware he let the team down in some ways? We have fragile fans who watch at the stadium and historically can be toxic, even though they have gotten better this season. The Arteta we know before will not hesitate to throw Awilo under the bus during the press conference but he has matured and rather spoke glowingly of the kid but that doesn’t mean he will be kind to kid in training or dressing room. He just knows that he is supposed to protect the kid and his team first! |

Roland17:I get the point of leadership in all ramifications as head of a unit in ICT for my organization. In fact structural leadership to the core. But here it's about Football. Our results are determined on the pitch after 90 mins or more. There is no better place given the context for him to display it. Again as I pointed out that we all have different meanings to what leadership is all about but we have to look at the context in which it is being or has to be displayed. Even as captain I have nothing against what Odegard did and I pointed out that Ramsdale does that to his defenders all the time. You may be seeing this as a fan but I am seeing this as a player. I will not be doing shuttle runs pressing down players only to look back and see my teammate not doing anything, no matter who that teammate is. That not happening with me. You may say why not Saka or someone else but did those other people do poorly enough to warrant that? Sure some players had bad performances but they have been consistent enough to earn the trust of their teammates that this was just one off. Sambi has been no where consistent to earn that... |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by mostob(m): 3:24pm On Jan 28, 2023 |
Roland17:I have rewatched the clip. Do you know why Ode shouted at him? Sambi was probably feeling too big to mark. Twice, I repeat twice...Ode pointed at Gundogan and instructed Sambi to mark him but Sambi refused. Saliba was supposed to mark Alvarez while Sambi stays infield to mark Gundogan but just stood without pressing. Ode did nothing wrong whether as a captain or a player. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Jencejyde(m): 3:30pm On Jan 28, 2023 |
Managers will always be managers and as much as Arteta may want to protect the kid,it's that same Arteta that will not hesitate to bench him or have him sold if he ruins his chances of winning silverware. Let's not delve into the politics of we will sort it out internally. I have lived it over many years of playing and it's nothing. All mangers want to win and have bragging rights. The one person who shows his own the most is mourhinio. Well looking at his records of success we can see how that worked out for him. Tuth is that whether Arteta praises sambi or not for press purposes, he will never be happy with him if his performance cost us big time and then it will fall back to the captain as to why him as a senior man did not do the needfull. Baba dont believe all this press statements too much especially after a loss. These managers bleed when the lose especially to rivals For me personally it's unti the next game and if given a chance , I just want the last to keep his head up and perform. No stories. We are here haling Xhaka today but forget how much he cost us in the past . All he has done now is forget that , put his head down and perform, he ven rejected captainship just to focus on being the best he can and now it's rewarding. I pray Sambi does the same and overcome any advesary the incident may portray to become a better player. |

mostob:I just rewatched the clip again and this time without the tension of the match and coupled with Jen.cejyde explanations too, I certainly don't think Odegaard did anything wrong in calling him to order. I mean, Odegaard pointed at him to Mark that zone (plus player) In order for Man city not get out of that press while he (Odegaard) started out with the press. It's really frustrating after giving your all to a cause only to find out that it's been made futile. It would have been a different case if Odegaard didn't instruct Sambi as well as showing the way. It's really frustrating sha and 95% of us will do same thing esp if we really CARE!! |

Jodera:I am not sure Papa Xhaka saw him because what is the meaning of that? I just watch the clip, I would have done worse walahi even petit attacking midfielder is defending and you are strolling around. There is difference between low - confidence and zero interest. Wo, no be lokogna dey do me, Partey is injured for whopping two months biko how do we salvage this, not sure Brighton is ready to sell Caicedo |

| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by ObaIgwe1: 5:13pm On Jan 28, 2023 |
mostob:I read he put in transfer request ( not sure how true). It's not about the right price this time, Brighton doesn't wanna sell... because even at 40m Brighton is making a massive gain on him. I pray the deal goes through, either way we MUST get a very good DM this time if we don't wanna bottle our chances again. Partey and Elneney are injured, and Awilo has proven incapable for that position. But I will prefer also that we get a DM that is EPL proven, the one that can hit the ground running. If not, then it is better to groom White or Tomi for the role at this time. This is our best chance to win something, the league or Europa.. we must not fail just cos of one player deficiency... Else we might not be able to hold some of our golden players for long. |

ObaIgwe1:I like the decisiveness with which we are making roster decisions. We identify a need and immediately seek to address it. No be the one wen we go dey depend on LANS (Like A New Signing) every season. Once again, kudos to Arteta/ Edu, but more importantly, Korenke because without his support these transfers would be impossible. |

Kokaneprodigy, Spy360 and Iamoyindamola. Did you guys watch any highlights or match regarding Sevilla and Cadiz last week. Exactly the same thing happened between Man city and Man u but their goal was ruled out. Here's the link at 40-45sec was when the thing happened https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ftX66U2DjE |

Jencejyde:For God sake why will this useless racial stereotypes still persist in this era? :-/ Because Lokonga is a black midfielder means that automatically he is partey replacement? ![]() Like WTF, they don't even play the same position yet we blame him for trying his best in a position that is alien to him just because he is black does not mean that he is a DMF like partey Lokonga is more of Xhaka understudy than partey, that is why when Xhaka was playing partey role, we saw how useless he was in ghat position. Abeg make una they add context before passing judgements, because this young man is trying his best in a position that even your great Xhaka flopped big time And you guys forget that this young man rarely get a game time which is not normal for a player of that age and when he finally get the opportunity to play, he will be playing out of position just because he is a black midfielder Being a black midfielder does not mean that he can play that DMF role effectively like Partey, Kante, Bissouma, Makelele, Essien etc. Give him consistent game time in Xhaka role and watch him blossom into a start that he was destined to be Abeg make una stop this useless racial sterotype because that young man is not a DMF but a CMF So stop blamimg him for a role that is not his. ![]() Even Odegard that is shouting like a market woman on heat, if he rarely get game time in his favored position and when he finally get the opportunity to play he is being played as a 9, tell me if odeggard output will not drop too |

Arsenal submit a second offer worth up to £70m for Moises Caicedo but Brighton want £80m for their star midfielder. [Simon Jones daily Mail] Make we add that 10M abeg. |
