The purpose of creating this thread is for clarification. Banks issued notices to their customers to the effect that the old notes of 200, 500 and 1000 naira will be phased out next week. But the thing is, the Central Bank and the commercial are not telling us the same thing.

Based on what the CBN issued in it's statement, the old notes will be in use even on 31st January, which is Tuesday. If you take the money to the bank on Wednesday, 1st February 2023 it will be rejected. This means that the commercial banks should accept old notes from customers on Tuesday, 31st January. This is what I understood after reading the statement from the apex bank.
Here lies my problem and fear. From the notice first bank and some other banks gave their customers they implied that they will not accept the old notes in question if you try to deposit it on Tuesday, 31st January.
Please help me out folks. Will the money old notes be accepted by commercial banks on Tuesday the 31st of January?

Zenith bank will accept deposit on Tuesday 31st I asked one of their staffs today and he said yes....

banks will accept the old notes on the 31s of January. But they are making a big mistake . The process should be that banks must continue accepting old notes from customers but people won't be able to use it to transact outside . Because some people have old notes and they may not meet up with the 31st January deadline,so does tht mean that by Feb 1st banks won't accept any old notes, if they do that people will fight back ooo

@ bolded, if they do this it means nothing has changed. If I know they will still collect it from me I will also accept it as legal tender. Will the CBN be where I am transacting to ensure I only accept new notes? All we need is clarification on when they will stop accepting old notes from customers in banks

Keep deceiving yourself. If you do anyhow, you see anyhow. Go and deposit your old notes as directed by the CBN and Mr. President.
