At the end of the day, nothing stops people from investing some money in a new cement factory..people from Ogun state.

That they do not do so does not indicate greed, it indicates lack of interest. Business grows first from interest. That is why Dangote is not investing in a cocoa processing plant in Ogun, he is not interested. You won't call him names for that.

Stupid leaders. They allow one man come over from Kano to own all the juicy multi billion dollar industries that's in their state. The money he is using also came from same Ogun state.

So you propose they leave their states bare, or in other words cut their nose to spite their face?

I blame all the past leaders of this country for the steep decline in the quality of education.

At least Obi invested in a industry. That generates jobs and income

Tinubu invested in tax collection

( i am neither a obidient or tinubuite so don't go there)

Really hate to do this, but are we seriously considering an investment into a brewery that has more than halved in value with a Deep Sea Port, and possibly the largest Free Trade Zone in West Africa?

Exactly. If not for poor quality of education, I wonder what else is responsible for total lack of comprehension and "manna":of approach.

There is no monopoly by dangote.

BUA, Lafarge and ibeto cement dey kampe. If you no want dangote, use them. BUA in particular will be very happy if you buy his cement.

Quite right. What surprises me though is the lack of investment by Lafarge, despite the growth in demand in Nigeria over the last 10years and with opportunity for export.

I guess because they are a multinational company with many global operations, they may not take Nigeria serious also because of our reputation for corruption and lack of ease of doing business relative to other companies. This is a case for having our own home grown industries that can invest at home, even if they also go abroad.

Nigeria should be supplying the entire West Africa with cement.

Its always the richest people in the news. In America, isn't it always Elon Musk these days... In UK there was a time it was always about Richard Branson. In fact at a time in this country, it was all about MKO Abiola.

1.The owners of four other private refineries, plus BUA would love to have a word with you.

2.The thing is, subsidy...ie selling fuel below the market price, is what is discouraging others. At the moment anyone investing in a refinery cannot afford to lose money selling fuel (which is why BUA's refinery in Imo is not going to produce petrol)..Dangote is taking a big risk by building with subsidy in place.

Business grows when people are allowed to set their prices...which is why I can type this from anywhere in Nigeria with an internet connection...instead of twenty years ago, where I would have had to go to an internet cafe...because GSM companies were allowed to set their prices.

Here, we took that right away from the petroleum sector, and paid them free government money (subsidy) in return. Corruption and sabotage resulted.

Removing subsidy will let a profit be made in selling fuel....which would make it more attractive for more people to refine fuel...which would prevent any monopoly by dangote et al.

When we remove subsidy, let BUA bring the competition and let's how it goes. grin

As much as it is self inflicted, it is still the job of the government to fix things there...including security

Taking your analogy to its logical conclusion, doctors should not treat patients since most diseases are 'self inflicted' in a way.

At the end, Buhari is in overall charge of security. Not the people of the east or the North.

at least eastern resources arrbt owned by one aboki from Kano. He has petrol monopoly and is almost holding cement monopoly.
No one is stopping wealthy Easterners from investing in projects like this

An igbo man and Dangote were the largest importers of cement during OBJ administration. They were giving a timeline they must build and start producing cement in Nigeria. Dangote built a cement factory while the Igbo man didn't build one, he wanted to keep on importing cement.

He was suppose to build a cement factory somewhere in Ebonyi.

Dangote made use of his opportunities. A lot of people misuse the kind of opportunities Dangote had.

Look at Obi, nah just two next malls e get all over Nigeria, malls e don dey operate for over 8 years now, one in Abuja and one in PH. If toh say nah Dangote dey run am, Next mall fit don get more than 36 malls all over Nigeria.

My biggest worry regarding Dangote is that were there to be an economic boom by a new government, demand for cement may outstrip supply which could lead to a phenomenal rise in the price of cement.

With no competitor aside Bua Cement, Nigerians would be at their mercy.

There will be a need to allow imports again with some tariffs in place.

BUA is a competitor so is Lafarge..

A new 3MT cement plant is being built in kogi which is neither own by BUA or Dangote

The country needs to open its borders to cement imports as these cement producers are exploiting consumers. An import ban was the wrong from the word go

import with scarce foreign exchange?

How much is the global cement price (50kg)

Nigerian cement is one of the world's most expensive because producers are protected from foreign competition.

Nigerian cement manufacturers make huge profit margins.

There was a year Dangote's net profit margin was more than half of his sales. I think company turnover was 280bn and after tax profits were like 143. That meant if he slashed the price he sold his cement for by 50%, he would still have made a profit that could be taxed!

Normally in such commodity industries with huge turnovers globally, profit margins are within the 6-12% range.

For the bolded..Dangote operates 4 cement plant with over 32MT yearly capacity..that isn't a joke..

Such quoted figure shouldn't come as a surprise..

Prices from his plant are around 3700..
What takes the price to 4600 an average is the cost of transport no thanks to current diesel prices..

You should look at other competitions if they are doing something different from Dangote..it makes no sense to focus your energy on Dangote alone..
BUA has more than 12 MTA capacity.. Lafarge has atleast 6MTA
