For those struggling with English

'Childhood Food Fantasy' means food you really wanted as a child but couldn't have. Someone wrote Fanta & rice!

During my mum's time, she grew up poor and they only eat rice once every month, so I guess to some people when they were kids eating rice with soft drink was a very big deal to them

I remembered one time in a bus I was travelling with, an old man was telling us a story, he was angry that Nigerians were so focused on bag of rice been expensive and he told us how he only eat rice and chicken on festive period like Christmas and Easter, that rice wasn't really a priority then, it was seen like a white people food and they only eat it once a while.

It was so wholesome as he was telling us, nowadays rice seems to be the basic food in Nigeria, that if it's expensive, it will be like we are going to starve or something.
He told us how he eats cocoyam, plantain, yam and many other type of food, like rice wasn't really a big part of their diet

At a point as a child, all I wanted to be was a pilot but on one condition. I wanted a quite place to enjoy my Bongo tea as much I wanted.
Mom would only pour us a cup each. She made the sweetest tea. I always wanted more.
Whatever airline I would work for must allow me bring my flask on board.
The plan was, Mom would make Bongo tea to take to work and I would buy her exotic stuff from foreign lands.
Every time I would fly, the flask must be sitting next to me filled with freshly brewed Bongo tea with extra milk and sugar.
Although I wasn’t sure if airplanes had steering wheel but I knew there would be some kind of control somewhere that I must keep my hands on . So how do I drink my Bongo tea? In my fantasy, I figured it out.
I needed a long drinking straw! Yes I was ready to be a pilot.
Hands on the wheels and straw in mouth. I would keep that job forever.
This is hilarious 😂

As a child, I loved choco milo so much, the amount I could afford to buy at a time was never enough. cheesy
So, I remember I had to resist the strong urge to chew them, so that they don't finish quick.
Then, I would think to myself "when I grow up and have money ehn, I will buy plenty choco milo and chew them two at a time without mercy, until I've had my fill" hahahahahaha grin

I wouldn't say I've had choco milo to my fill, but now, I can confidently chew as much choco milo as I want, knowing I can always buy as much as I want. 😌
Bread with Custard then with corn-flakes then with golden-morn all with milk and sugar.

Your mom ate rice once every month and the people you have in mind ate it once in a while as kids. So, it was no longer a childhood fantasy. There is a marked difference between a luxury and a fantasy.

Food Fantasy: An edible or combination of edibles you are craving but cannot have at the moment, either because of the cost or some other restriction.

Luxury Food: Food that you can't have as often as you want because of the cost or unavailability.

Any other person struggling?

Till date I’m a sucker for Choco milo, in fact the pharmacy shop in my estate already put me in their hall of fame. The only thing Nigeria can ever do to hurt me or break my heart is to abolish Choco milo. Nice to meet you, I had always thought I’m the only weirdo when it comes to Choco milo.

As a child, I love Robo, I could afford to buy enough of it but my grandmother won't allow me. She don't want to ever see eating sugary things. So I do hide to enjoy my robo. My grandmother always buy me Pako biscuit (for those of you that knows Pako biscuit) This biscuit is so tasteless. Gosh!

But now I don't hide to lick my robo. I can confidently enjoy my robo without grandma scolding me.
