When MTN came into Nigeria, they almost suck dry Nigerians. MTN was selling usim card at the price of N26000. The Sim is well packed with CD plate inside the caton. They do this just to deceivedh we Nigerians. When Globacom came, they started selling Sim at 1ñaira. You pay 3000 naira, while you get N2999 calling credit inside the sim. Which means, the usim is sold for 1 Naira. This brought MTN to their very kneels. Should I talk about DStv-multi choice? NOW I saw a front thread on how the South African O P was boasting how SA haz become tbe power house of Africa. How SA has become the america of Africa. How SA Investment in Nigeria has boa the Nigeria economy. I quote him, but Nigerians has invested in other Africa countries too. Anotber south African here on this forum by name IronGalaxy quote me and asked me if I live in a rock. What he mean is that, am I not aware that South Africa has lot of investment in Nigeria that is beneftting Nigeria? His question got me confused and wondering If I truly have been living in Nigeria. These are now my questions. 1. What are the South Africa investment in Nigeria? 2. In what ways are South Africa investment benefited Nigeria as a nation? 3. How will South Africa business affect the Nigeria economy or people if they seize to exist in Nigeria? 4. What is Nigeria as a nation benefiting from South Africa as a nation? Can Nigerians or any South Africans here on this forum educate me by answering my Questions. 4 Likes |

jantman:Obviously they can’t do without us because they gain more from us than we gain from them, in some other West African countries MTN have an unlimited data package that you subscribe for 20000 cefa and it will last you a whole month without any interference but over here in Nigeria there is no such thing they are just cashing out on us and our government can’t even regulate them, the National Assembly Speaker has suddenly become an advocate for the suffering masses because of the new note’s policy only because it I will stop them from vote buying now the are threatening the CBN governor and I was also wondering where this man is when ASUU was on strike for months and all the hardship we have faced over the years they didn’t do anything to help the masses but now they are now crying more than the bereaved because Buhari want’s a free and fair election. 9 Likes |

jantman:Go to The University of Cape Town & ask some business class students. They will have some answers for you, ordinary electricity they cannot provide for themselves in the Zoo? I wonder why ESKOM did not win any bid in your electricity privatization sham, at least they would have used Nigeria as a new frontier to expand their business. But we know them in the land of the fantastically corrupt, they are allergic to electricity, they prefer darkness, Na miraculous light, like the one Moses brought down from mount Sinai they are waiting for? 1 Like |

WannaHowzit IronGalaxy Skyview01 Let us put it this way. You went to someone land. You saw the land is filled with prosperity with lot of potentials. You then open the business you had in your own land. You did this because you want to expand your business and grow wealthy. The people in this land has made you to grow more and more wealthy. Later you start boasting that you are doing them favors by investing in their land. Such a mindset is pure foolishness, pride and insanity. In a nutshell, your south africans investors and business needed us Nigerians. We don't need them. Get this into your brain. 2 Likes |

jantman: How old are you, my friend? Your reasoning is high school level at best. This is basic ss1 economics. Why do you think our leaders are traveling all over the world begging for foreign investors to come to Nigeria. They open up economies. It is a symbiotic relationship in which both parties have something to gain. Besides these companies pay millions of dollars in taxes to the host government. I am not a ZA but just wants to point out flaws in your arguement. Rest 1 Like |

jantman:This is a senseless thread. South africa has a sophisticated financial market with lots of funds they will always seek to invest else where. Our billionaires are mostly not interested in innovative things and only seek our govt related contracts or monopoly. Mtn service and internet cannot be compared to glo so forget the pricing. Many times people are unable to use their glo data. Since Hitech crashed has any Nigerian company come out to compete with multi choice Did shoprite not revolutionize the retail business in Nigeria Is Stanbic bank not attracting foreign direct investment from south africa via the parent bank standard bank South Africa. Is dangote not in other African countries like Ethiopia, Zambia, kenyan Are Nigerian banks not everywhere in African countries Alot of you people here don’t understand international trade. It sounds cool to fantasize kicking others out meanwhile we have companies in other countries. 2 Likes |

Just think about the number of people that will become jobless if these south African companies like MTn and ShopRite pull out if Nigeria. Does it not scare you? |

jantman: 1. Direct investment in property and cellular infrastructure. They provide premium services certain Nigerians desire. You complain Nigerians are being exploited but there's a free market in the goods being sold. There's no monopoly on any of the services and everyone's free to use cheaper options. 2. You see the jobs and services. 3. People lose the jobs and less goods are supplied to the market. 4. Tax revenue, jobs, FDI and financial investments. |

completeskills: ShopRite is no longer in Nigeria and the people and employees continue their works in the malls. Nothing changed so much so even you didn't even notice. ShopRite is gone but many other products took its place since. That is what will happen to MTN and co. That's what happened to Celtel, Zain, now Airtel is still waxing stronger and stronger. They said Nigerians and the Nigerian economy will be hurt when ShopRite leave, now many other malls and Plazas are springing up. Even the bunt down Ebeanor Supermarket is already being built up as we speak, I pass there. Shopping malls and Plazas are the new money making scheme now especially in Abuja. Let MTN and Multichoice go and you will see what will happen to their structures in a month. 1 Like |

jantman:That South Africans for you, ignorant braggarts. Should we all talk about our investments in other countries we will not end anytime soon. Nigeria's contributions to other nations are not known cause they don't affect the Nigerian people directly, we go out and hustle for our own. We've nationalized most of their assets... MTN Nigeria is wholly owned by a Nigerian now (although through franchise from MTN group) Shoprite is now wholly owned by Nigerian (same franchise issue here with the name). As for DStv that one is still enjoying the monopoly of our corrupt politicians but TStv is gradually coming up. We now have so many private and modern shopping centers and malls like Robans Stores, Everyday Market, MarketSquare Etc... Don't mind those Southafricans |

ednut1: These louts deserve jobs in Nigerian run companies where their souls can be fked over and they can be underpaid. The SA companies are far better employers than naija companies. It was when shoprite was being sold I found they had a union. Which private naija company will allow that? Most glo employees na packaged third party contract. The dstv they love to hate gave them Africa magic and Indian TV. These people need to go back way back to how it used to be |

christejames: MTN Nigeria is 70% owned by MTN group, it is not a Nigerian company nor is it Nationalized. Shoprite Nigeria was licensed to a Nigerian for limited duration. Johannesburg has now malls than the entire Nigeria as a country. I think Nigerians don't know what a mall is below is a mall in Soweto 1 Like
