Coming into this season, my goal for this team was to make the top 4. However, we can not pretend like we are not positioned for the title race. Considering the dynamics of other teams, this season presents the best opportunity for us to win a title in 20 years. With the financial pull and depth of City/ Chelsea, United and Liverpool, we may end up fighting for top 4 in the coming seasons if we don't take advantage of the situation we find ourselves. In my personal life, when I set a goal, I am flexible enough to adapt and take advantage of a higher goal that presents itself while pursuing the original goal. When Leicester City won the league in 2015/2016, they did not go into that season with the goal of winning the league. I don't think they thought top 4 was even possible. However, as the season progressed, results starting falling in their favor and they soon realized that they were in the title race. They buckled down and won the league because they know that opportunity may never avail itself again. Last season, we were positioned to make the top 4, despite the goal being top 6. We had numerous opportunities on a platter to finish 4th but we blew every one of them and to me that was quite disappointing. We were content with finishing outside the top 4, afterall, top 6 was the goal. Here we are again, with an opportunity to win the league but some of us are just too comfortable with the barest minimum because the goal is top 4! It has been 20 years since we won the league and some of you are fine with making top 4? Because in your heart, we will beat City/ Chelsea/ United in the future to the league? Chelsea are a good coach away from being dominant again, City will always be favorites, United have the pocket and a coach who looks like he is getting it together and while Liverpool have strayed, they can always get it back together. We should tell ourselves the truth. If we don't go for it now, we may just become perennial top 4 contenders again. While I am not of the extreme view that he should be fired if we fail to win the league, I think questions need to be asked because it is becoming a pattern. THIS MIGHT BE OUR BEST CHANCE IN YEARS TO COME, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT! #COYG |

@ Roland17. Please, don't misunderstand those of us that called for calm to mean that we don't want the league or that our minds aren't in the league... Far from it!! What we saying is that we should not overreact on the loss and that it's expected for us not to be invisible (ie not winning all our matches). Looking forward to the next game should be of utmost importance not thinking about what we've lost. This team have made the best starts in the history of arsenal history and it's not as if they didn't lose while doing that. What they just need from us, at least, Is the confidence that they can go on another winning spree just as they did and that this one is a "bump" just like In September. And you think the players and staff don't want to win the league this season? Check out the interviews of all the players this season, they always talk about hope of winning the league even though they put the caution of "always taking one game at a time". Our Jan transfer window even buttress the fact that we're really going all out to win this league looking at the transfer window we had in terms of depth we were lacking unlike last winter season where we were naïve (Trossard, Kiwi and Jorginho— even though the latter isn't loved by majority fans). Add it to attacking firepower of Jesus, Smith Rowe and Nelson who should all be back hopefully by February ending at most. The season is still far and they'll always be bumps on the way but one thing I trust with this group of players (and staff) is the mentality— they've shown it numerous times and I believe that's what will take us far this season. I've always been saying it from last season and I'll keep on saying it. COYG!! |

I remember when we played against Leicester (in Feb 2016). They were topping the league with 5 points with us being 2nd. We won the game 2-1 and cut it down to 2 points but the loss didn't deter them. The still went on a winning spree and eventually they won the league while our 2 points difference turned to 10points. When we lost against Everton unfortunately, most of our prayers here was that Tottenham should beat Man city (even though we all had the faintest of hope that it might happen). Now that it has happened, instead of us to be happy that our 5points is still intact (instead of a possible 2points), instead we start wailing about the "8 points" we initially didn't have and never had. I mean, It would have even being understood If we played after the Man city loss and not before it. C'mon guys!!. Let's believe in this boys and the team! |

Jodera:On point. If we had played after Mancity loss, we could wail a little, We've had our own "bad day in the office" It was Mancity that couldn't capitalize on it. Let forget that match and hope we can beat brendfort again. |

Roland17:Are we not taking advantage of the situation? Is it because we lost on Saturday? Or is it because we no longer trust Arteta? Which one? |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 4:41am On Feb 07, 2023 |
Jodera:You just nailed it. 👍🏽 It's only Arsenal that has won the league without losing a game. Losing to Everton does not mean it's over. It means we have to restrategise and avoid complacency. This team and their manager are the best in the league. They will work on whatever happened on Saturday and go on another winning run |

Well said at Jodera! Sometimes I just feel for fans but sometimes I personally look inwards from the player perspective to see how it feels. Unfortunately I did not watch the match due to naija problems if you know. But I noticed that the uproar on the loss was not about our performance as if to say Everton played us off the park but it was more of us not being clinical enough to get into the game and break them down to get the results. This is what gives me joy as a player to know that the Performance was there but the result was not in our favour. The consistency of performance is what some of us have always loved about this team and get irked about when we lose games in an abysmal manner as if there was nothing to play for. I for one am not bothered about a loss or two here and there as long as that mentality to always perform from any member of the team is consistent. What will other me is the manner of our loss and if players are dropping their standards, that would be a real concern but lately bar 1 or 2 players the team has been doing well enough even though results have not been in our favour. Let's not get deluded that we will win every single match from now till the end of the season but let's back this team to ensure that the consistency of performance which has given us a chance at the title remains till the end of the campaign. Sometimes we just have to put ourselves in the shoes of these players and wonder if truly they too want to win it or not. I have played games where my coach is just lost as in he simply has no answer to the opposing team and it's just down to pure mentality and tenacity of the team to grind out a result. I'm sure we would be wondering what's happening to liverpool right now and that's just football in it's many cycles The only thing that has to remain consistent should be the performance and in not time the results will follow. If there are some players that need a rest or are not performing optimally then its best to leave them out for now so as to get them back in shape |

This is also where the team Physcho earn their pay. They need to get into their heads to prepare them mentally reminding them consistently that the prize ahead is there to be won. Just watched some parts of the second half and kudos to Everton for being resilient and disciplined to deny us the points. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Jodera: 10:41am On Feb 07, 2023 |
Jencejyde:Nice one cos you put what I also have in mind in terms of performance consistency over result. I'm a firm believer of good performances and process than results cos I believe Results are just the by products of performance if done right(esp in the long run). It's the main reason why I wasn't really feeling this team during the first half of last season when we were winning but our performances wasn't great. Our performance wasn't that bad even though Everton tried to subdue our Midfield and hit us on long balls which most time dey were successful with. Also their defence was resolute. The game was just screaming "first to score wins the game" and it really happened. On Saturday was just an off day generally for us and we just hope that it's an anomaly. I believe these boys. They've displayed over the long run this season that their performances is one of the best (if not the best) this season and their mentality have been top notch. I truly believe we'll bounce back after the defeat |

One of the lessons to learn is that teams will be aiming to stop us especially from the wings as they know it's where our strength lies. Arteta and the lads should come up with a plan be in case that happens. I have noticed recently how two players are asked to mark Saka whenever he gets the boy because they know he will always succeed one on one. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Jodera: 8:47pm On Feb 07, 2023 |
Spy360:Zinchenko drifting infield and Xhaka not making that overlapping runs to help Martinelli might be making Martinelli's case harder. He's still not daring enough in his dribbles unlike Pre-Wc but he's mostly lacking support too. Even White recently hardly makes overlapping runs unlike Pre-Wc I just hope Arteta comes up with something to help out on our wings |

| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by daveP(m): 11:03pm On Feb 07, 2023 |
Jodera:That's where I'll say Tierney has been super helpful to Nelli when they play together than when its anyone else behind Nelli. Arteta needs to hack that wing once again. Nelli used to be great on the counter, especially when he had ESR near him. Maybe if ESR returns, that wing will come alive once more. For now, the two key players that brings the best out of him are still recuperating from injuries. |

| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Jodera: 8:24am On Feb 08, 2023 |
daveP:The thing is that we're having a good varieties of players now that can accommodate different tactical strategies. Martinelli also needs to be daring too. Recently, he hardly does a lot of one-twos to open up defences, something he was doing regularly earlier this season. He's becoming far too predictable. White hardly overlaps recently too(compared to first half of the season) and it's making it harder for Saka on the wing whenever he's been double marked but you could still see Saka doing one-twos with midfielders to try and open up defences. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 8:31am On Feb 08, 2023 |
Jodera:Yes and exactly. Teams are beginning to see us as leading contenders especially following our win over both Spurs and United, and now that Man City has lost to both teams. Most of the teams we will face would gladly play for a draw and so they will want to sit back and defend or to stifle our attack. But let me just trust Arteta's tactical mind. Like you said, Xhaka should be willing to do the overlap on the LW. That's how we got our equaliser against Man United. At this point, Tomi should be preferred at RFB. What do you think? |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by mostob(m): 11:26am On Feb 08, 2023 |
Jodera:If we want to see the best of Martinelli, Arteta will have to change his tactic. That teams double up on Martinelli is why Zinchenko has a lot of freedom to roam between the LB and Midfield. Xhaka is suppose to be overlapping and help Martinelli to contain the outnumbering opponents. I still think Martinelli will get back his mojo when Jesus comes back. Jesus unlike Nketiah usually drift to the left freeing up Martinelli. And if Martinelli decided to stay at the LW with Jesus, Xhaka will have a lot of space in the box (reason for his scoring run earlier this season). |
