6) When the person that wants to do the transfer ask for your phone number, give the person a phone number that is not connected to your bank. If you receive alert in that phone number, know it's a fake alertThis point is a bit more complex as depending on the bank(info which we are not privy to) it can determine whether to continue with the client of chase him out of your sight. I think that most of these fake alert apps will query the banks for your info(that's how they are able to get your full name) and the phone number may or may not be included in this information packet. In principle there is absolutely no reason why the client would need your phone number to make a transfer and if he is asking for it then he's probably a fraudster. |

Number is the conclusion of the all information. I always tell people this. Anyone that ask for your phone number don't give or give a phone number not related to your bank alert. Because nothing concern phone number with transferring of money. All you need to give out is your account number, account name and bank name. |

Ikem11:Well, the op mentioned this already. I think people using bank apps are not even up to half of the population having bank accounts. |

Best way is 1 sms alert should always have your balance and 2 the sms should fall under previous sms from the same bank because if you receive a fake sms alert, from say gtbank, because its different from your gtbank sms alerts, it will be a separate message conversation. |

In Addition: When a transfer is made, move the money immediately to your savings account once you can confirm it. If the scammers want let him go and cancel...that's if there's money somewhere to take. |

There are cases of the scammer even being the one u have sent money to relying on not seeing sms alert instead of checking his app and email.... Some can keep one up to3 days because of this.... Some Nigerians are really heartless people. |

9182736455O1999:Banks should enforce it on customers. If the banks keep quiet then they directly benefiting from the fraud. Someone need to sue one bank to court and watch how others will enforce it immediately. Such a thing can never happen over here. |

Alusiizizi:Phone number may be requested so that once transfer is made, one can send him the alert( remove your balance pls by screenshotting and editing) via phone sms/ WhatsApp. Especially when there is deadline to be met by who is transferring the money. As the other guy mentioned don't give phone number that is linked with ones account. |

You can also try to buy airtime quickly on the account so that you could easily see the balance in the said account |

Ikem11:Can't be enforced because many of our bank apps have problems to register them fully and to use them.... Some will later block one's pin and one can't necessitate transfers. Even to snap with it's app camera na kasala sef. Banks ought to have smooth running apps that can run with different phone versions. |

sharone21:I suppose that's true, although one must always be suspicious of clients that require a phone number to make a transaction, or as you mention, give the person a non-bank linked number if inclined to be polite. |
