It's too early to give up on the first day. Nothing comes so easy.

I started driving long ago with manual gear. Learning driving was boring without having a manual car to practice then. It's similar to learning computer programing without a system.

Believe me you'd get to love manual when it masters you. My love for manual made me consider only manual cars though I've driven few other automatic belonging to others but you can't compare the pleasure I enjoy with manual to that of automatic. With manual you have perfect control of your vehicle

Learn driving with my dad's manual car with very little info but in few days I was hitting the road,driving manual cars is really fun especially switching the gear position but automatic is taking over now

I felt a similar way wen I started..the truth is the problem is the driving instructors..most of them don't know how to teach..they will make it look more complex... secondly their is zero theory before you hit the road.. finally after your training duration find a friend who owns a car that can brush u up

Here are my problem.

2. Losing focus and what to do when I'm tens specially when I am approaching junction or a big car.
3. I am more concerned with the cars at my back or around me because I was moving slowly. The guy keep telling me to forget about them and focus on my side. Is document I filled said I will be the one to pay for damages incurred during the session.
3, knowing how and when to change the gear. I haven't mastered it and I feel it's too hard with the calculations. When I was filling the form there was some disclaimer on the document that I will be held responsible for any damages. I also learnt that the break is sometimes press. It was then I understand that the guy can press the brake from his own side of the car. Although I didn't tell him but I know.

Handling the wheel. To make a turn accurately on the road or control the wheel is really off.

You and your teacher need serious flogging.

Your learning should start from theory, learning part of of vehicles and road signs for at least two weeks before test driving.

You will keep forgetting cos you are learning the wrong way

Stick or learn with automatic...because cars that are being import into the country are automatic and in the next 3 to 5 years I doubt if you will see manual car expect you wan drive truck or dangote trailer.

Digital clock has not replaced analogue clock till tomorrow. Manual cars will always be manufactured.

Just because manual is going or has gone out of fashion doesn't mean that manual shouldn't be learnt.

Personally speaking, I don't know how to drive manual but I know that I will still go and learn it one day.

If not for anything but just for the fun.

I learnt how to drive with a powerful Volvo 244 at age 15. No one taught me.

I drove around in a huge field for days before I hit the road. This was in my village were most roads are empty.

The car was manual. Switching to auto was fun.

It's not everything you have to learn the hard way. Sometimes just have fun and you find you learn faster .

Learning how to drive manual cars in these modern era is like going backwards.
Technology are changing everyday very soon new cars will be manufactured you don't need to do anything with ur legs (leg free) u just press a button that's all

oga manual cars full everywhere, as a matter of fact, Europe and America drive manual a lot including the luxury cars...

This is the first comment to correctly diagnose the problem and profer the correct solution. Well done.

Others are just projecting their own experiences onto the OP.

It is an aberration to enter the main road on the very first experience with a manual car.

If you have never had any experience with a manual car then you start driving in a wide open field so you can get used to the jerk and stop that comes with learning how to manipulate clutch and brake.

Once you have overcome that wahala then you are ready to enter the main road- never before.

The people are taking him straight to main road so that he will feel inadequate, that will make him book more lessons and they will make more money.

1. Learn initially how to use the pedals, brakes, mirrors etc in a field with cones. Your initial practice shouldn't be on the major road. Learn navigating cones without touching them and parallel parking
2. Relax. Don't press any pedal too hard unless the brake when you need to stop immediately
3. Once you master the fields you go to a secluded road with few traffics. Learn actual lane change, road signs, trafficator use etc
4. Then move to the high way

If you master how to drive manual, I swear you won't want to touch an auto with a six foot pole.
Lagosians flee from manual because of traffic...if you are in another state with less traffic, especially travelling, you would love manual.

I sha enrolled in driving school auto and manual full course. I drove a real car ( manual ) for the first time in my life, it was stressful. You had to mentally monitor the engine sound in order to change gear, no clutch pedal - no party, if you take your leg off the clutch too soon, car will stall, if you step on the brakes without stepping on clutch, car will stall.

The werey instructor did not tell inform me that he can brake the car from his end. He'll just tell me "clutch down", and when I do, car will slowly stop.

The traffic light goes ⛔. I was at the front row. Immediately the light went 🟢, I hurriedly took my legs of the clutch pedal so that I can accelerate. Kpaka kpaka! Car stalled, I understood what 'being under pressure' means when about 20 cars behind me went smashing their horns.

Five days went by, I still cannot make a proper turn. It's either I turn too fast or too slow or steer too hard. I thought I was braindead, I can never know how to drive. I told the guy I wanted to drive auto..

Seatbelts, check! mirrors, check!, Ignite the car and off I drove. AUTO WAS TOOO EASY. There and then I vowed not to consciously touch a manual car again. My confidence shot up. I started feeling like some low-budget Vin Diesel.

If that place was truly a driving school they should have trained you with indoor computer simulations first before taking you to the field to learn the actual car.

The fault is from the driving school not you. The standard program is 26 sessions for a beginner. You have to start with lectures, drive a mock(simulator) car, go to the field to practice before going to the road. How will someone just put you on the road the first day you start attending training?

I familiarize myself with the routes when I was still using interstate buses to travel.but,I once missed my way at Benin bypass.

Except if OP had intention of competing in F1, he has no reason to waste time learning manual transmission, especially when it is appearing too difficult for him to handle.

Outside Nigeria
Manual cars are the most common cars and if you get company cars, they mostly come in Manual not Automatic.
