JW 003 What Is Unforgivable Sin? by MaxInDHouse(op):
God's word often confirmed that no matter the weight of a sinner as long as he or she is an imperfect descendant of Adam God is ready to forgive them {Psalms 78:38; 103:12; Isaiah 49:15; Malachi 3:17; James 5:15} but Jesus (God's only begotten Son) said:

“For this reason I say to you, every sort of sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the spirit will not be forgiven. For example, whoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the holy spirit, it will not be forgiven him, no, not in this system of things nor in that to come" Matthew 12:31-32.

So the question:
What did God's Son mean by this statement?
How can one commit the unforgivable sin?

Stay tuned and learn from our Master, Lord and King Christ Jesus! smiley

From the day Adam and Eve (first perfect human couple) chose to alienate themselves from their Creator all their descendants have been cursed with sickness, suffering, oldage and death. Romans 5:12
But due to His compassion God decided to redeem faithful and loyal descendants of this culprits because they're not directly involved in the crime against God so whenever God's angels moving round the earth finds a faithful descendant of Adam they rush back to make a good report to God and so God promised that no matter how stupid they proved to be in their sinful condition He will forgive and erase their errors! Isaiah 1:18

People know already but when they get so full of evil, they would break every Law they find.

The truth is that it's easy and convenient when a normal human commits sin but it's really a big torment when humans are committing the unforgivable sin which is outrightly speaking against the spirit of God!

Any form of blunder committed by humans is carried out when a man is lacking something but the sin against God's Holy Spirit is carried out by faithless and evil people.

Now let us analyse what Jesus said which is the topic of discussion!

There are nine qualities indicating the fruitage (produce) of God's Holy Spirit in the gathering of imperfect humans:
LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITH, MILDNESS and SELF-CONTROL Galatians 5:22-23
No imperfect human can exhibit these qualities because it's beyond our capability {Romans 3:23} yet these are the qualities we must possess before we can be ushered into everlasting life! Matthew 5:48

Humans are living with flesh which was born in corruption {Psalms 51:5} and there are traits that comes with our sinful flesh:

Now the works of the flesh are plainly seen, and they are sexual immorality, uncleanness, brazen conduct, idolatry, spiritism, hostility, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, dissensions, divisions, sects, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and things like these. I am forewarning you about these things, the same way I already warned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s Kingdom. Galatians 5:19 -21

These are the things that will continue coming to the mind of any imperfect human no matter how hard we try {Romans 7:15-23} considering our limitations God is ever ready to help us! Psalms 103:14

When we fall into any of these traits due to our stupid fleshy desires God is willing to forgive us if we are faithful! Isaiah 1:18 compare to Proverbs 24:16

That's why the faithful Israelites king David was forgiven and God always refer to him as the man after God's heart! Act 13:22

So how do humans commit sin against God's Holy Spirit?

Re: JW 003 What Is Unforgivable Sin? by MaxInDHouse(op): 9:09am On Feb 09, 2023
Whenever we see someone speaking to us about God in most cases we do look at the one speaking instead of concentrating on what will be the outcome if we should put what this person is saying into practice therefore when we angrily speak against God's messengers, verbal abuse, restrict them or physically hurt them God will forgive us if we are doing so with our faithful heart condition that's why Jesus prayed for the Roman soldiers punishing him {Luke 23:34} for speaking against the religious leaders of the Jewish community thinking Jesus was a blasphemer just as he was accused {Matthew 26:65} the same thing occurred when faithful Jewish Pharisee called "Saul" stood against the congregation of God and made sure many of them were imprisoned {Act 7:58; 9:1-2} and few were killed so Stephen prayed for Saul because he was doing it all out of faithfulness to his God! Act 7:60

So no matter what a faithful person may do in his faithfulness to God it will be forgiven him but when does the sin against man (forgivable) change to sin against God's Holy Spirit (unforgivable)?

After carefully observing the outcome of what a seemingly stupid person whom we thought is blaspheming God is doing and we can perceive that his works are yielding positivity regarding the fruitage of God's Holy Spirit for instance after Jesus' execution only his disciples later saw him alive because he has become a spirit none of the Jews who weren't his disciples saw him again after his death {John 14:19} it becomes more difficult for Jesus' disciples to preach about their leader the so called impostor who has been judged and executed under the Jewish constitution! Act 4:18; 5:28

So how can anyone sin against God's Holy Spirit now that Jesus is no more physically around?

Well Jesus told his disciples that what God had promised through the mouth of His prophets will be received by his disciples if they remain faithful to the course so they must wait for this promise in order for them to benefit maximally as the first set of Jews to receive the blessings their God promised regarding the coming of Christ! Act 1:8; Joel 2:28-30

At last God fulfilled His promises and the first set of Jews who accepted Jesus as Christ were all baptized together in a room {Act 2: 1-3} as they began speaking in different tongues so that all the visitors in Jerusalem heard these Jews speaking in their native language the sacred secrets of God's Kingdom! Act 2:4-12

Now this is where we are going!

After witnessing this event some observing the BORN AGAIN Jewish Christians thought and said "they are drunk" {Act 2:13} this is surely a sin but it is committed against the men who are doing something unnatural so God won't charge it against those saying they're drunk.

Then Peter stood up along with the 11 surviving apostles of Jesus to address the Jews that day!

After delivering his speech most of the Jews were helped to remember that what they're seeing is in fulfilment of the promise their God made to their forefathers in the days of prophet Joel! Act 2:18; Joel 2:28-30

When they heard this they became sober to the point of asking Peter and the rest:

"Men, brothers, what should we do?" Act 2:37

Instantly those accusing their own brothers of drunkenness changed and began begging them for what they should do so as not to be left out from gaining what their God promised!

Remember most of these people were present when Pontius Pilate asked what should be done to Jesus of Nazareth and they all screamed with one voice "impale (execute) him!"John 19:14-15

But now after seeing the fulfilment of what their God promised through the prophets happening to the followers of Jesus they felt really bitter and wanted to become members of the most vilified Jewish group in the first century "followers of Jesus"

This is how to sin against God's Holy Spirit!
Whoever raise his tongue against what they all saw that very day which is the fulfilment of the promises of their God simply because he felt irritated by the activities of Jesus' disciples as one united family of peace loving worshipers after seeing God's word being fulfilled in their midst will never be forgiven because such a person is no longer fighting against those humans he/she can see but actually fighting against the spirit of God working out what is fine in the midst of imperfect humans! Galatians 5:22-23

That is when they will begin to say all religions are welcome to them because they don't want to acknowledge that they've seen the one and only approved group in whose midst God's Holy Spirit is doing it's work! James 2:18-26

God bless you and may you have PEACE! smiley

There's no way you can sin against the person you can't see (God) and you can't sin against God's only begotten Son (Christ) because he is a spirit being in heaven.

That's why Jesus said:

“For this reason I say to you, every sort of sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the spirit will not be forgiven. For example, whoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the holy spirit, it will not be forgiven him, no, not in this system of things nor in that to come. Matthew 12:31-31

Note the highlighted in red, Jesus carefully chose his words because it's a human being who eats, drinks and poo that you will wonder:

"why should he tell me what to do after all he's just human like me?"

But the works Jesus is doing in the midst of imperfect humans with the support of God's Holy Spirit is what you must not speak against because you can't find such fine WORKS in any other religion no matter how devoted those in the the religion may prove to be.

So if you choose to speak against humans like you our God will forgive you. For instance if someone is talking or saying anything against Muhammad due to the fact that he is human our God doesn't take it seriously after all na human like me but when you're speaking against the fine WORKS that Muhammad's message is producing in the midst of those practicing what he taught and you can't find such fine WORKS anywhere else then our God will never forgive you because it's only the spirit of our God that can produce those fine WORKS which means Muhammad must be one of the messengers of our God.

So can you please present the fine WORKS of Islam as evident in the gathering of imperfect humans? wink

So Jesus was a man while on Earth!
When he woke up was he still a man or Spirit?
When he ascended to heaven did he drop the body on Earth?

Let's see the verses how Jesus a man became spirit!

Will they be resurrected with the unrighteous and righteous people?
During the resurrection it's the same WORKS of God's Holy Spirit that we will all see not God or Jesus so if they're speaking against the fine WORKS of the same Holy Spirit now how will they appreciate it when they're only seeing the humans in whose midst God's Holy Spirit is performing it's WORKS?

So since they've chosen to be wicked they will not be remembered during the resurrection of the dead {Psalms 9:17} that's why Jesus said they will not be forgiven now and in the system when God's mercy to remember the dead comes! Matthew 12:31-32

The righteous and unrighteous mentioned at Act 24:15 is about faithful servants of God (RIGHTEOUS) and people who lived by conscience even though they don't know God's laws (UNRIGHTEOUS)

The post below has addressed your question.

SeniorMan715:
When they have seen the truth and hardened their heart or refused to accept it.
The only little addition i want to make is that when someone is acting in contrary to the things he knows that is right instantly from that moment he will begin to feel tormented each time he see what makes the wickedness in his heart becomes obvious to everyone, that is why God will not forgive them because instead of working towards adjustment in order to free their conscience they will start nursing a grudge against the source of light that's exposing them! John 3:19

So if your conscience doesn't disturb you with whatever anyone says you're not sinning against God's Holy Spirit even though you claim to be an atheist. But from the moment you become uncomfortable with a message to the point of attacking the messenger then watch yourself something is wrong with you.

As an atheist you should feel relaxed after all you don't believe in the existence of any sky daddy (God) so what's your business with whatever those talking for their sky daddy thinks, say or do?
As long as they're not stopping you from eating your bread my friend you have no business with whatever they're saying! smiley

Jesus performed his miracles through the Holy Spirit

the pharisees claimed that Jesus performed His miracles through the spirit of the devil.
calling the Holy Spirit in Jesus the spirit of the devil, is a unforgivable sin against the Holy Spirit

Mat 12:22  Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute was brought to Jesus, and He healed him, so that the mute man spoke and saw.
Mat 12:23  All the crowds were amazed, and were saying, "This man cannot be the Son of David, can he?"
Mat 12:24  But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "This man casts out demons only by Beelzebul the ruler of the demons."

Mat 12:31  "Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.
Mat 12:32  "Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.

^^ you can speak against Jesus the man / flesh and be forgiven, but you cannot blaspheme against the Holy Spirit / God and be forgiven, no matter how many times you want to tell stories to deny it

going against the Holy Spirit is not just blasphemy, lying against the Holy Spirit, mocking etc. is just as serious
ananias and his wife sapphira lied to the Holy Spirit and are lost

Act 5:1  But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property,
Act 5:2  and kept back some of the price for himself, with his wife's full knowledge, and bringing a portion of it, he laid it at the apostles' feet.
Act 5:3  But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land?
Act 5:4  "While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God."
Act 5:5  And as he heard these words, Ananias fell down and breathed his last; and great fear came over all who heard of it.
Act 5:6  The young men got up and covered him up, and after carrying him out, they buried him.
Act 5:7  Now there elapsed an interval of about three hours, and his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.
Act 5:8  And Peter responded to her, "Tell me whether you sold the land for such and such a price?" And she said, "Yes, that was the price."
Act 5:9  Then Peter said to her, "Why is it that you have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out as well."
Act 5:10  And immediately she fell at his feet and breathed her last, and the young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.
Act 5:11  And great fear came over the whole church, and over all who heard of these things.

^^ lying to the Holy Spirit is lying to God, same as blaspheming the Holy Spirit is blaspheming God
blaspheming Jesus / the man, is blaspheming the Son of God, forgivable

lying against the Holy Spirit and calling Him names like:

"the ole demon ghost", "the unholy ghost" and saying that the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit is "3 gods" is blasphemy, and the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven:

Luk 12:10  "And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him.

Mar 3:28  "Truly I say to you, all sins shall be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter;
Mar 3:29  but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"—

the false jw's who blaspheme those things about the Holy Spirit are lost, and the false jw's who give likes to those blasphemous posts are lost

David is one of Jehovah's Witnesses so he's speaking from the perspective of a JW because from the JW perspective whatever wrong we do is against our God not human {Genesis 39:9} David never worshiped any other God he committed adultery with another man's wife and he considered against JEHOVAH.
That's what he meant.
The Muslim i chatted with asked how one can sin against God, God's Son and Holy Spirit.

God bless you and may you have PEACE! smiley

Jesus performed his miracles through the Holy Spirit
the pharisees claimed that Jesus performed His miracles through the spirit of the devil.
calling the Holy Spirit in Jesus the spirit of the devil, is a unforgivable sin against the Holy Spirit
There's nowhere in the scriptures to back up miracles as evidence of the Christ's presence because different prophets have performed miracles in the past yet they never claimed to be the Christ!

What the Pharisees said against Jesus was out of envy despite knowing that John the baptist was the prophet sent to prepare the way for the Christ {John 1:23} and that's what their God promised them as sign that the Christ is right at the corner if they see such a prophet preparing their minds ready for the Christ {Malachi 4:5} but their position as rulers of the Jews made them refused to acknowledge John the baptist {Mark 11:27-33} so they sinned against God's Holy Spirit working according to God's program as John the baptist introduced Jesus of Nazareth to the people as the Christ! John 1:29, 36
As for miracles it could be questioned because demons also perform wonders {Matthew 7:21-23} but God's plan to restore the Jews to glory through John (the promised Elijah) and Jesus' preaching and teaching campaign is undeniably evidence of Christ in their midst.
What the scriptures foretold about our time is not miracles but a global family of peace loving worshipers {Isaiah 2:2-4} zealously preaching and industriously teaching throughout the earth! Matthew 24:14
So when people see this group as they're gathering millions throughout the earth and making them peacelovers yet calling them all sorts of names like demons, cults and so on {Matthew 10:25} then those criticizing them after reading about God's plans in the Bible are actually sinning against God's Holy Spirit! Matthew 12:31-32 smiley

oh duh most confused and lost false jw mad max

my post was not about miracles being evidence of Christ

my post was about sinning against the Holy Spirit

your confusion comes from the same spirit that false jw lies and blasphemy come from:

1Co 14:33  For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints

Joh 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, that is his natural way of speaking, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Mar 3:28  "Truly I say to you, all sins shall be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter;
Mar 3:29  but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"—

the false jw's who blaspheme those things about the Holy Spirit are lost, and the false jw's who give likes to those blasphemous posts are lost
