Visitors visa was approved for my husband yesterday after I sent a lengthy emotional mail ystrday night and attached my enrollment letter and proof of address.

I was at the verge of applying for SOWP but I had to give it one last try by sending messages to them via email and webform.

Lo and behold approval dropped this morning..

I think you should send them a long emotional message and attach your proof of address and enrollment letter if you are a student..it did work for me ooo cos under 24 hours approval came.tho hubby didn’t do Medicals cos it’s visitors visa.
Send messages via mail and webform..it worked!

Good day guys.

Pls I have a situation and can't seem to find answers anywhere.

I applied for visitor's visa July 2022 and till now no word. Was hoping I will get a response/visa by December. Now I need to renew my passport as if hopefully I am invited to submit my passport, I will get a longer duration for the visa.

The thing is now I will be changing my surname on the new passport which is different from the name I used in applying. As well as the fact that my passport details will be different too automatically.

Pls someone should advice what I'm to do. Thanks.

No I did not send anything to them. But i received a notification from them yesterday about my wife’s application as we applied as a family. They requested for the scan page of her passport that has 6 months validity. Her passport expires in May which is less than 6 months. I was impressed they picked this up. The race now is to get the passport renewed within a month and send to them. Hope this helps.

What is the reason for changing your surname? Is it marriage? If the cause is marriage, you must submit an affidavit of change of name and new paper publication for a change of name.

Thanks for your response.

The name on my current passport is my husband's surname. However after I did that passport, I decided to revert to my maiden name hyphenated with my husband's surname and as such I updated all my documents to reflect the hyphenated surname (driver's license, NIN, PVC, bank details etc etc). I swore another affidavit to reflect that change as well as another affidavit of one and the same person. So basically my only document bearing strictly my husband's surname is the passport. And as I'm renewing now, I'm using the hyphenated surname in my application.

It's okay. You can go ahead with the passport renewal with your updated surname. But I will advise you to a newspaper publication regarding the updated name. It's important and will form part of your documents. That is the standard. Note: the newspaper publication must be done with any National newspaper, preferably Vanguard.

You can submit the new passport to IRCC upon request, with a letter of explanation (explaining the reason for the name change). Then attach the affidavit of change of name and the newspaper publication where you have your name. You may wish to also attach other IDs, like your driver's license, PVC, NIN, etc., as further evidence. I hope this helps!

I did the affidavit the same time as when I did the name change so I already have that. During my visa application, my IDs I submitted had the hyphenated name so I submitted only the one and the same affidavit but not the change of name affidavit.

If my passport is requested now, I'm hoping they won't question the new passport as my current passport (with just my husband's surname) has more than a year remaining (it's expiring July 2024).

My husband siblings(2) are citizens in Canada so we thought of applying for Visit Visa

I don’t mind staying back for now and join him when he is settled
Did you think it’s best for his brothers to invite him and submit the application themselves, did we stand any chance?
