Dear all,

I had the incredible honor of being granted permission to photograph the Igbo gods, and I cannot begin to express the awe and wonder I experienced during this amazing opportunity.

I want to share these spell binding pictures with you all.

Each and every one of these gods exudes such power, royalty, simplicity, and grace that it was truly humbling to be in their presence. I am still reeling from the experience and I feel privileged to share my photos with you all.

Amadioha, the god of thunder and lightning, stood tall and strong with his lightning bolt and gavel in hand, radiating an energy that seemed to shake the very earth around him.

Ala, the goddess of the earth and fertility, was the epitome of serenity and grace. The plants of the field and fruits and vegetables all seem to grow from her.

What do you think of Ala?

Igwe, the god of the sky and celestial phenomena, was the very picture of regal power, wearing a headdress made of feathers and standing tall against the bright blue sky.

Idemili, the sexy and sensual, the goddess of the river and water spirits, was a vision of ethereal beauty, standing at the edge of a waterfall with a serene expression on her face.

Ani, the goddess of the earth and protector of women, children, and the vulnerable, exuded a gentle kindness and nurturing energy, holding a baby in her arms as if to shelter it from harm.

Ikenga, the god of strength and achievement, was a force to be reckoned with, flexing his biceps and holding a spear with a look of determination that seemed to convey his unshakeable will.

Agwu, the god of health and divination, was a wise and venerable old man, with a long beard and his staff, emanating an aura of ancient knowledge and understanding.

Dem too get sango and ogun lakaiye osinmole .....lols....gods wey gather muscles, and wear Ankara.

Njoku Ji, the god of yam and agriculture, was a symbol of abundance and prosperity, standing tall in a field of yam plants with the sun shining down on him and holding a basket full of food that seemed to overflow with goodness.

Now the gods that scared the shit out of me

But which of the gods is responsible for wearing skirts and running from the battlefield

That's the god that Ojukwu, Kanu and Peter Obi who ran from PDP primaries all worship.

The god of Cowardice.

Mami Wata, the goddess of the sea and water spirits, was a vision of beauty and mystery. Only allowed to capture her face and not the full body or I would have never left the underwater.

Idemmili is not the goddess of the river and water spirits. She is the deity of the Idemili river

And to the devil Ekwensu, the god of chaos and trickery, was a mischievous figure with a devilish grin. He wanted you all to see his face and he was happy about it. How can the devil be happy? Lol

Just like God made the Sabbath, so the gods created market days for mankind

Lol. I just remembered childhood..
This ekwensu is nothing close to what I saw in book of Bible stories.

Mami Wata is not Igbo but Edo. You should have put gills on her face not pimples.

Ekwensu is not the devil but a trickster which is Esu in Yoruba. Most cultures have that mythical god so I think there is a truth to it. Africans don’t have a concept of evil of such magnitude that the whites have with the Devil.

Trickster god balances good and evil and ensure there is a price to pay for every deed.

That ekwensu looks like tinbu with make ups
