The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has appealed to residents of the state to accept the old notes, IGBERETV reports.

Obaseki made the appeal after the Supreme Court ruled that the old N500 and N1000 notes remain legal tender till December 31, 2023.

The Edo State Government is one of the co-defendants with the federal government against Kaduna and some other state governments that urged the Supereme Court to nullify the February 10 deadline for old naira notes set by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

However, Obaseki in a statement on Thursday, March 9, by the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, said the old notes should be accepted alongside the new ones to facilitate trade and boost economic activities.

He said: “With the Supreme Court judgement, the controversy over the circulation of the notes have been put to rest and the people are urged to accept and trade with the notes.

“We are also exploring other means of transaction such as electronic transfers, among others, as all issues of cash available are addressed by the relevant government agencies.”

You supported the Government against the masses thinking that it will favour your party.
It turn out it made you lost too then you turn around to support the masses.
Tinubu saw all this and he opposed the ideal from the very beginning that is how you know a leader with idealand vision.

Obaseki don really see pepper. After supporting the satanic policy in court suddenly he's an advocate of the use of the old notes. He played a bad politics that backfired. Edo people wan kill am for dat matter and oshiomole is pressing his neck seriously. I just feel for him though.

He was one of the parochial governors who opposed the recirculation of old notes at the Supreme Court.

Right now he is about to lose again at the Edo House of Assembly election after his party PDP lost all its seats at National Assembly, he is now pitching tent to sound as if he feels the pains of the people..

I was shocked that despite the serious protest against the scarcity of naira notes leading to loss of lives in his Edo state, he still went to SC to oppose the yearnings of his people.

He destroyed PDP in Edo and that serves PDP right after their leaders allegedly sold their platform to him for N6 billion to fight his political benefactor, Adams Oshiomhole.
All of those who allegedly collected the bribe like Chief Dan Orbih and co are now political refugees.

Mr. Governor, kindly create your own bank, so that when they collect it from customers, they will deposit it in your own bank and you credit their account...

CBN governor have been mute since the judgment, so alot of people are scared to recieve old money and find out that their sweat is not a legal tender....

What you should be doing now is to be liasing with the CBN governor to make a statement about the old note...

This naira issue has shown how useless the other arms of government (legislature and judiciary) are.

It's actually wrong to be flouting Supreme Court ruling, but Nigeria is far from a sane society.

I think all the stress will be ease of only the cbn governor or the president can give the oder of exchanging the old note and to be use as legal tender for exchange until Dec as the court gave the order

No be you be CBN wey go tell me which money to accept. It is my choice.

Until CBN say otherwise, I would only collect the old and new 200, new 500 and 1,000 Naira notes.

Make una case no bi like yam seller yesterday after accepting 500 naira. She go use the money buy stuff elsewhere. Na so Dem reject ham everywhere, she try return the money back to the bros wey give ham for area but the bros said, nothing he can do about it, say supreme court don say make Dem dey spend ham.. this matter happened for our street ooo and still dey ground till now

Anybody who accepts that money should just move permanently to that bank. Because, you will only be able to buy foodstuffs with the expired money at that bank. Nobody in Nigeria will accept expired money, that the president has written off. One of the functions of money is its acceptance. If money is not allowed, it's next to useless. The only thing that money is good for, is wiping your a$$, after using the toilet.
