raumdeuter:You have captured it well enough. It's just that whenever one tries to make this kind of point, it is easily misinterpreted to mean you are making excuses for the ruling Government so the point is usually quickly dismissed for emotional reasons. Out of the 36 states in Nigeria, only Lagos has a budget above 1 billion dollars. Some Universities in Europe are actually dragging similar budgets with our states here. Omo, Nigeria poor. The sad part is that majority of the country's population strongly believe that the country is rich and that the political ruling class are the one stealing all the money. And I don't blame them it's the lie that desperate politicians have used to win votes. That was how Buhari came in saying once corruption is defeated and all leakages are blocked, Nigeria's wealth will be judiciously used to turn the country into Germany. Baba came in and saw that to even do just Lagos-Ibadan expressway, he needed to borrow. Nigeria politicians make me laugh a lot though. Go and see campaign promises from state Governors candidates, some are even promising 150k minimum wage. ![]() I wish everyone well anyway. |

izzou:That $400K is part of the cost of governance I doubt any state assembly will vote against what will keep the governor safe A bulletproof car is standard for anyone in govt in a country like Nigeria |

Amigoss:There are many public schools without desks and boards It is even in Lagos that we have decent government hospitals. I am assuming 300 million can increase the supply of drugs to government owned hospitals by few months Let us assume that we need a budget of New york to be able to make life habitable for its citizens. We go dey alright finally |

We needed access to the 36 States, but as a matter of urgency, we requested for 9 states. as of today, we have only been allowed access to 2 states, I am not impressed with INEC @inecnigeria ~Livy Uzoukwu SAN, Peter Obi's Lawyer Like I said INEC will set this country on fire |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by afrodoc2: 6:16pm On Mar 16, 2023 |
izzou:You are actually sort of making Dayo's point for him. The fact that buying a bulletproof car for the governor means students might not get desks and hospitals might not get drugs tells you the country is poor. Remember that two truths can coexist. The country is poor. Our leaders are corrupt thieves. Those are two truths. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by liveLongNprospa(m): 6:16pm On Mar 16, 2023 |
How many bullet proof cars do you need as a governor to keep you safe? This is outside shifting the conversation from the value of 400k to the sudden importance of governors security. 300 million will sort out alot in a poor community. From water to renovation in public schools. Be like say people think say 300 million na small money😂 |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by liveLongNprospa(m): 6:17pm On Mar 16, 2023 |
If we go through the entourage of yahaya bellow, I'm sure we will see atleast 4 bullet proof cars. |

raumdeuter:Dayo, if you say we are poor, which I may agree with, then why are we running an expansive government that is expensive and riddled with high recurring costs? To Izzou's example, if you say we are poor, why is a State Governor purchasing a car worth N300M? How many of such irresponsible purchases is Kogi incurring, especially when you consider the State barely generates anything? If 1 car that he may not return to the State after his tenure costs N300M, then what is the cost of all the cars he alone is using? We are poor but we are operating an expensive government across the 3 levels like we are the United States? Using insecurity as an excuse doesn't make it any reasonable. Kogi State is poor and doesn't generate enough to keep it alive but somehow, Bello's wife is wanted by EFCC for the misappropriation of N3Billion belonging to the people of Kogi...What gives? Are we really poor or are our leaders corrupts and use expansive government as an avenue to steal from the people? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Roland17(m): 6:35pm On Mar 16, 2023 |
liveLongNprospa:This is on the State level. Do you know what is happening in the local government/ LCDAs around the country? Is Nigeria poor? I think a legitimate argument can be made for that, especially when you consider our population and GDP in comparison to other developing or poor countries. However, it begs the question as to why we run such an expansive style of government. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 6:38pm On Mar 16, 2023 |
Roland17:We are running a US styled democracy which means we change govt 4 or 8yrs. Officials run for office after every term and there is a term limit We decided that this is fair and better than what our fellow poor neighbors run otherwise we can have Paul Biya, Eyadema, Ghadaffi Mubarak styled democracy where one person rule for 20yrs and we don't waste money on elections and cost of governance Other options include military or monarchy US styled democracy is expensive |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 6:39pm On Mar 16, 2023 |
Roland17:Lol. We are poor truly. Until the budget is that of Texas, we may not be able to achieve much. Even that 3 billion can only impact a community. It won't do much in a local government, talk more of a state. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Donjazet2: 6:41pm On Mar 16, 2023 |
Blueraydick, how did this happen? Lagos PDP collapses structure for labor party? Does this give labor party an upper hand here?
|
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by afrodoc2: 6:41pm On Mar 16, 2023 |
Roland17:Both are right. We are poor. A country of nearly 200m people whose budget is half that of a state of 6m people in Australia. Compare our budget, GDP, PCI, HDI or any other parameter you want to use to that of any country that is generally agreed to be prosperous. The country is poor but the conscienceless leaders have been stealing the little that we have. While nearly everybody is suffering they are still stealing like we have money. Only 2 groups of people in Nigeria earn 1st world income, politicians and religious leaders. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by liveLongNprospa(m): 6:43pm On Mar 16, 2023 |
Roland17:First I am confident that our population figures are lies that's for sure. We have two issues and those issues are as a result of the 1st issue. 1st we have thieves who steal the country blind as leaders and they are very wasteful 2nd we are currently broke as a nation as a result of the 1st reason. The amount of money that a governor steals from his state is unbelievable and yet there's still more to be stolen which shows there's money available after a period of time. Omo the matter does my head in. See the number of projects did in rivers with 200 billion in his last year before leaving office. Now imagine if he actually uses just 600billion to face projects in rivers. Our expectations are in hell for governor performance |

Omo but Obi grace really touch a lot of people oo. No matter what happens in Lagos state, I think this rhodes-vivour guy's stock has risen tremendously in Lagos state. I see him having an impact in Lagos politics moving forward.

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Roland17(m): 6:49pm On Mar 16, 2023 |
afrodoc2:We share similar school of thought regarding this issue because 2 truths can mutually exist. The country is poor and numerous parts of the country live in abject poverty, however, we have the resources and man power to improve our situation but our system and size of government is intentioned to promote and tolerate corruption. |

raumdeuter:In comparison to our population, Nigeria is really doing badly. That's why some very harsh decisions need to be taken. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 6:54pm On Mar 16, 2023 |
larride:So it's Buhari removing subsidy on the 30th of May that will prevent BAT from managing it abi? ![]() If anything I think Buhari removing subsidy before he leaves is him doing BAT a solid, seeing as people would blame Buhari and not BAT like you guys are already doing. |

TrebleChamp:What makes you think Nigeria's Supreme Court justices are useless and corrupt? Can you list a few instances of their corruption and uselessness? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Roland17(m): 6:55pm On Mar 16, 2023 |
liveLongNprospa:By the time you start calculating all the high profile corruption, misappropriation and money laundry cases since 1999, you will begin to understand why Nigeria is in it's current state. These are the ones that were unearthed oh, how about the ones we don't know about or that succeeded without any traces? How about the billions of stolen funds that are intermittently remitted to Nigeria from foreign countries and banks? You can not use poverty as excuse to ruin the country. |

raumdeuter:400k dollars is nothing when it comes to the business of state building and governance. That 400k dollars is not even remotely enough to pay a month salary for all the workers in a random teaching hospital in Nigeria. But of course, for an individual, 400k dollars is a fuçking huge amount. |

liveLongNprospa:Igbo's are out-manned by a factor of like 4-1 and outgunned, don't want to imagine something like this happening. I trust our "most accommodating tribe" continue to tolerate the Igbo's and the rest of us classed as omo-Igbos. |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Roland17(m): 7:06pm On Mar 16, 2023 |
raumdeuter:Using the cost of governance again doesn't fly. There are numerous types of Democracy. Democracies are adapted to fit the dynamics of every country. All the countries you used as example practice a type of democratic government that suits their dynamics. The developing/ poor countries in Africa have adapted theirs to fit what they want. What we are doing in Nigeria is intentioned to promote corruption and that is why there is no desire to amend our constitution. For example, INEC were given over N300Billion to execute the elections but somehow, the same election is riddled with large scale operation and technological issues that the N300Billion. What gives? |

Theflint1:Subsidy is the third rail of Nigerian politics. Gej learnt that the hard way. Obj never went after subsidy fully, he just trimmed it. You will require a gigantic amount of social capital to cut subsidy without a large response. As it is today, if Tinubu touches subsidy the obidients have an excuse to mobilise and create chaos. And they will take it. Buhari knows the game he is playinh |
