my dear, i have my own fear with this their subsidy thing.what has d common non public citizen got to benefit from this government sef?no stable power, we buy water,pay to secure our self,manage our hospital billsetc.now the only life line of this economy is what lack of transparency and corruption is threatning ?I still want to believe that if our managers of d oil sector can be very humane n honest, this subsidy matter can be well managed so the weak n les wealthy can benefit from. but i rest my case

Nope if you have been following the story very well you should have known that subsidy should have been removed during Jonathan time but people are easily led by what people tell fought against it.

If this administration is not mad and selfish. Why not let the incoming government do the subsidy removal thing as convenient for them, not causing a mess for them and you’re leaving the office.

Are these people smart at all Must you ruin everything for the next guy, must it be you that do it? Just to put your name on record that your implemented it??

If Obi won, he would have removed fuel subsidy too.

All the main candidates, and many of the minor candidates (Abiola of PRP even stated he won't waste time removing it if he was elected...understandable since he was in the oil industry before politics)...stated they would remove subsidy.

The problem with subsidy is that today you can budget say (hypothertically) 6 trillion naira for subsidy in 2024, then because of war in one place or crisis in another place...oil prices shoot up to 140 dollars a barrel, and your cost of subsidy suddenly goes up....beyond estimated income.

Now how do you pay for the subsidy? You take loans.

The scary thing...it is not enough.

Plus because fuel cost is less...people smuggle fuel to our neighbours...and it is not big man...even small boy takes jerrycan of fuel at N200 a liter and sells it in say Benin for 400 a liter.

At the end, we are left with a big hole in the budget...a deficit...and how do we cover the deficit? More loans.

Guess who is suffering...the poor.


Subsides do not work...because people love to make money, and people want to be paid, and because refineries cost far more than we realise to build, operate and maintain.


Right now, subsides are eating all our income and forcing us to take loans. Plus we still have to pay off debts..if you have not forgotten.


That's why all the candidiates support subsidy removal. If we keep it, Dangote refinery will collapse because he won't make enough profit to keep refining sustainably. NNPC too will suffer badly because of the 20% investment they have there.
