Good morning Lagos.

A few days ago, President Buhari signed bills granting states more autonomy in key areas like electricity, railways, and the judiciary, empowering Lagos to take charge of our own growth.

Thank you, Mr. President.

The Constitutional Alteration Bill No. 33 is a historic move that grants us authority to regulate electricity generation, transmission and distribution.

This will create a Lagos Electricity Market, leading to increased access to electricity, investments and job opportunities.

The new bills will promote efficiency, leading to better service delivery. We've been preparing for this by launching an Electricity Policy, publishing our off-grid strategy, presenting our Integrated Resource Plan and drafting a law to establish the Lagos Electricity Market.

We're committed to achieving 1GW of solar energy in Lagos by 2030 and have engaged with the World Bank for suitable funding. With the creation of the Lagos Electricity Market, we'll fulfill our potential as Africa's model mega city.

The devolution of powers for railways under the Constitution Fifth Alteration Bill No. 32 is a significant move for promoting local economic growth and development. It'll open up investment opportunities and improve the transportation of goods and services.

I'm excited about the next few years as Lagos takes more responsibility for our growth and the fulfillment of our potentials.

Let's work together to make Lagos the best it can be!

Nigeria should have more cities allowed and built to function like Lagos, as long as it's only Lagos that functions the way it does in Nigeria, these sort of things will not stop. Abundance kills strife.
How are other cities not ALLOWED to function or be built as Lagos?

Shouldn't that responsibility fall on the state governors

Y'all just used tribalism to make this thread uncomfortable, smh.

People you thought were learned and well travelled will be typing tribalistic bs.

Anyways, Niger Delta governor's should make sure oil companies relocate their headquarters to the Niger Delta. You can't be drilling oil here and be locating your headquarters elsewhere. If they can't locate their headquarters here, then they should be drilling oil in Lagos only.
https://m.guardian.ng/features/ambode-orders-police-hunt-for-disus-killers/

When the above happened, there was an immediate reaction from lasg. Lasg came down hard on everyone involved. It was a message. This will not be tolerated.

For years different governors looked the other way or passively encouraged community shakedowns of IOCs. Kidnapping of oil workers became an acceptable hustle. This is the result. As Ibime said, most of them have divested their onshore holdings.

This may look like a victory until you realise the Nigerian owners will not bring the development or spreading of the largesse. Or the commitment to safety.

Nigeria is more than 200 million population.

Why do people doubt Nigeria population numbers? Every population research has indicated that Nigeria has over 200 million population.
That population is a lie. Anytime biometrics are introduced we always fall short of the project

Over 200m yet we had about 12% voting in the last presidential election because of BVAS in previous years without pvc and BVAS we get almost 30%

Companies go where there is security. All this talk is lamba

Insecurity drove them out, and only security can bring them back
We were all here when the staff were getting kidnapped daily. Which company will retain its headquarters there? They mostly took the expatriate executives out and left mostly locals and a few expatriates in the SS

With insecurity on a large scale, governance and attacting foreigners is almost impossible which is why I feel for Soludo

There are some posters I won't waste my time engaging on this thread because of their low IQ.

An example is the poster that just quoted me now talking about wars and slavery in the past fought in Africa.

I'm sure the fool can't read clear statements in English I made on Nairaland where I condemned the barbaric practices in African cultures countless of times.

A dimwit that believes there are no confirmed facts in natural science isn't worth my time.

I'm sure there's something about being African that makes people like him dull and seeking to be enslaved by the West, like many of his fellow Africans on the continent with empty brains.

Wars and slavery are evil regardless of who engage in them or where they're practiced.
Abeg no vex oo, why is every single one of your posts laced with insults and abuses?? It's almost like you can't make a point without abusing the person you are trying to talk to.

You call every single poster ignorant or low IQ while posturing as the know it all. Haba now.
Reduce the temperature of your posts abeg.

I don't know why I'm expecting that your reply to me will definitely contain the word fool or ignorant or something derogatory but if you can, please control it.

Go and do your research. Oil once accounted for 50% of Dubai GDP before they built their economy and diversified by using the oil money to build infrastructures.

In modern times, the evidence abounds that blacks can't build and develop a functional, well-run society.

I hope in my lifetime, black people develop enough intelligence to achieve this feat.

For that to happen, we need many critical thinkers that relegate religion (especially foreign religions) and tribalism to the background and embrace science and philosophy instead.

It all starts from the mind — a free mind not an enslaved one.

I totally agree with you. Lagos is what it is because of the sea port coupled with once being the nation's capital.

There are several other points in the country where a sea port can be arranged. We can have more than 5 seaports in this country. This will reduce the pressure on Lagos.

The fact is ordinarily, Lagos will not want such as it will take away over 40% of it's IGR. But then they asked for it, when they say it is not 'no man's land'.
Does Lagos get to decide which port becomes active and which doesn't?

There are other ports in Nigeria but many importers choose Lagos specifically for other reasons one is closeness to the target market

I witnessed this personally in the mid 2000s, I was engaged in the Delta region a lot. And if I have to take a boat, I will tell them I won't come. Its either I fly to and fro. I wont risk getting kidnapped. Cos all those speed boats were getting attacked daily by militants to kidnap expatriates.

I was offshore when they kidnapped a bunch of Ukrainian contractors and kept them for weeks but they didn't get a ransom cos the Ukrainian govt no send those unlike Americans and European

I heard some of them got killed

All those travel advisories that US consulate release regularly are not for jokes and if you are not a foreign arms dealer you better take the advise

In this election cycle ;
Ortom, a sitting Governor lost his Senatorial election.
Ayade, a sitting Governor lost his senatorial election.
Lalong, a sitting Governor lost his senatorial election.
PDP has flipped Zamfara Governorship seat.
APC has flipped Benue Governorship seat.
APC has flipped Sokoto state Governorship seat.
NNPP has taken Kano.
PDP has flipped Plateau Governorship seat.
Osun Speaker lost his seat.
Yobe speaker lost his seat.
Come on, don't bullshit me, please..

We both know upsets don't mean the election was free and fair in Nigeria, it only signals who has higher rigging machinaries in key areas of a state.
The last election before now, I remember some key upsets off my head, akpabio lost his senatorial race despite being a key player in his state, saraki lost in Kwara, ajimobi of Oyo state lost his senatorial race as an outgoing governor, George akume in benue state, same thing, I think even David mark, although I don't recall properly, then some states in the north too. Kwankwaso himself lost in Kano.

Soo no be today we begin see upsets, and that hasn't also signalled that the elections were free and fair, it just signalled who employ evil rigging tactics pass.

But yes, I'll grant the caveat that this election was an improvement from previous elections but that doesn't mean it was a good one. It went from worse to bad.
So again, please don't bullshit me for the love of God.

I do not think the wave was overestimated in anyway. If Obi was on the ticket on Saturday, the result would have been completely different. Labour Party does not have what it takes or cannot do what it takes to win the gubernatorial elections without Obi.

Also, governorship elections are a completely different ball game. Those whose daily bread will be threatened by the loss of their party will mobilise to ensure their party wins.

There's a reason I say Lagos is the best run State Govt in Nigeria by miles. I don't make that statement lightly, and I'm not talking of one Governor but a succession of Governors working toward a long term grand plan that is very business friendly in comparison to other states
