Thank you, let me also add to the bolded "contesting for offices". So why are you not applying that standard to Lagos?
Why all the dog whistling about tribe?

Now let me ask again more directly, do you have a problem with an igbo person who has lived most of his life in Lagos, in your own words, paying his taxes, Livng and working there, aspiring to be the governor of his state?

Do you have a problem with that?

Caveat; citizenship by birth applies for only presidency. That's why I included your children in the equation, asking of you think your children born there should have a right to contest for any leadership position.
I have no problem with any body that want to contest election. An Igbo man contesting election for the number number one post in any other place apart from Igboland will not win. Same way a Yoruba man won’t win governorship election in the East or win governorship election in the NW.

Igbos have been contesting for election in Lagos and have won election to the State house of Assembly in the same Lagos, so why exactly is your question.

It is only on Nairaland when you want to gaslight that you mouth “what’s the issue about tribe”. If you are Igbo and you want to become Governor, go to the East, if you are Yoruba, go to the west and if you are Hausa/Fulani and the likes, go to the North.

There’s a reason why we use state of origin and not state of residence.

pardoned? na for naija that will work. it is actually worse for her because she is in a country where health is free, and she is from a clearly wealthy background, which meant for her , it is more of an inconvenience than a debilitating illness. they can literally put her in prison with days she goes to hospital for dialysis
But I read from the article you posted that she was pardoned

Patrick the fact you had to make this statement exhibits ignorance on your part.

In every advanced democracy, what politicians do is pander to their electorate, regardless of the demography of that electorate, what they don't do is violently suppress and intimidate voters or outrightly kill them.

In America for example, it's not about tribe but race, white, black, brown. there are predominantly white areas who experience an influx of black people or brown people and these demographies are very different. You don't see the politicians using force to suppress the new black voters. What they do is pander to the electorate, make promises to them, find various ways of aligning with them and seeing them as a voting bloc.

The same thing in Utah, where it's more of religious voting blocks, Mormons versus baptist and other protestants.

Or California and texas where you have Latinos as a voting block and try to formulate appeasing policies for that voting block to lure them.

What you don't do is use violence. That's not how democracy works.
Basically, it's politicians pretending to represent general Yoruba interests saying if you're not going in line with our political choice, you won't be allowed to vote. There's no way Igbo votes alone will win elections in Lagos, the politicians know this for a fact but the Tinubu's/APCs want to monopolize the Igbo/other Southern minority vote and if they're not able to do that, they neutralize it by turning the Yoruba's against them using Lagoos in no man's land, Candidate X wants to install an Igbo Oba in Lagos or some other dumb rhetoric...it's been working though, I'll give them that. cheesy.

The whole you guys are voting against the wishes of the owners of the land thing is nothing but oppression, nothing more, nothing less.

You guys are the majority, why not exercise your power as the majority and get your electoral wishes...no.

Oya appeal to us so we vote you...no

You either vote for us by force or we neutralize your votes by any means possible...this is the idea behind their play, and anybody saying anything else is either ignorant or disingenuous.

Like you said, politicians appeal to electoral bases and get support from them either with votes or money...Tinubu and his gang are too lazy and/or arrogant to do the grunt work of winning votes so they resort to crude tactics to get them over the line. What happened in Lagos on the 18th was no election.

Larride, the only currency we have here is our opinions. That's to say the only purpose of this place is to learn, unlearn and relearn. To educate ourselves on various things.

Yes, you are correct in stating that in Nigeria of today, it is very likely that someone of another tribe will likely not win governorship of a state outside his region but that doesn't mean it should be so.

The obidient movement has shown that if the people come together, something can be built out of nothing. The least we can do is lend our voices for the impossible to become possible.

So I personally wish that a day comes where a man of yoruba and hausa descent who is capable and competent of leadership and understands the terrain of Enugu state becomes the governor of the state.

Being a governor is only being a steward of the state for a given period of time. Tribe really shouldn't be the prerogative. Ibime could very well throw his hat into the ring for Mayor of London and boom, he's the leader of London tomorrow because he's lived there and understands the challenges of the place or at least I hope so. That is the ideal world.

What we on our parts shouldn't be is enablers or proponents of divisive rhetorics. We should all be liberals, willing to constantly change and move the world to an ever accommodating place. Not fighting for conservation of the status quo which equals stagnation.

So my very respected elder brother larride, I'm hoping your position too is that you wish to see the day an igbo man is the governor of yobe state, an hausa man is the governor of Anambra state, an igala man is the governor of Oyo state but that the common qualities of these men is that they are all technocrats with a desire to aggressively develop the states they govern and are deviod of corruption and filled with empathy towards those they govern. Am I making sense?

That’s why Solomon Yayi represented Lagos in the State House of Assembly, House of Rep and Senate and went to Ogun West and still won election as a Senator.

We are Yorubas. We know who we are.

When you are through with this story, elect a Fulani/Hausa/Tiv/Yoruba man as Governor of any of the 5 Igbo states first and we will continue from there.

Ciao.

Because that would contradict your earlier stance which you declared.

Yes I agree that change begins with us but let’s start the change from the East first. Once any of the 5 Eastern state elect any Hausa/Yoruba/Fulani/Ibibio/Tiv as Governor, we will replicate same down West here. We are saying the same thing.

Thank you as you begin this enlightenment in the East.

Ekweremadu has been found guilty. This is wild!

I hope the boy is okay with risking about 3 people's freedom to make asylum claims?

Will his conscience be at ease at all? Sending 3 people to prison for you to stay back in UK is . . . . . shocked shocked

I hope the Judge is compassionate in sentencing.

Yayi is originally from Ogun I think...the Yoruba's from Lagos complain that they cannot leave Lagos to contest for positions outside of Lagos.

From the moment he raised alarm, everything that's happened from then on was a predictable outcome. Also, considering the fact they'd def have been ripping him off the true value of his kidney, his reneging on the "agreement" isn't bad at all. It's also very possible he didn't understand in full the consequences of living life without one kidney and the way he'd manage his body going forward. Knowing the Nigerian political elite for who they are, the guy made the best decision...fvck Ekweremadu and his family.

But their conscience was at ease when they were trying to exploit the boy.

If this had gone under the radar of the UK authorities,he would have donated the kidney then they give him just low 4 figures of us dollars or pounds and dump him back to Nigeria.

With the exception of his daughter, only because of her health, I am sorry I have absolutely no sympathy for Ekwerenmadu and his wife. All “Efulefus” will suffer for their contribution or indifference to the situation in the S. East.
I hope these set of politicians entering the foray will learn their lesson and seek the development of the region with a focus on exploiting our strengths, especially in economic development.

You are not wrong. I don't have the full details but I also guess he was treated badly when it was confirmed he was not going to be a suitable match.

Nonetheless, directly contributing to the imprisonment of 2 influential figures is wild. I hope UK is also ready to grant asylum claims of his relatives because I won't lie to you, they won't be safe forever in Nigeria.

Let that Karma bite him hard. He is a Nigerian, he will serve his time, return to Nigeria and continue to be a politician.

We have an endless list of shameless politicians who were convicted and served jail time in foreign countries and some of them returned and won elections..

The last time I checked Dapo Abiodun was convicted and served jail time for fraud in the US but is Governor of Ogun State today.

Let him suffer small, we all know Nigeria has no shame. He will return to a welcome party that will be attended by serving and former Senators, HOR, Governors and other politicians will attend. We are a shameless country, we no dey hide am.
