Abuja is part of the elected government and that is why their Minister essentially acts as Governor who is appointed by the winner of the election. So Abuja is an attachment to the winner of these elections and is essentially a state being governed by them as well as the country. We are the ones determining Abuja’s governance, not the other way around.

Abuja wasn't considered as 37th state. Show us evidence rather the supreme Court says it is separate and that Yar'adua won in Abuja.

This is a tired issue and I can't believe it's showing up again in an election petition in 2023. Please read below:

Section 299 Application of the Nigeria Constitution says inter alia;

"The provisions of this Constitution shall apply to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja as if it were one of the States of the Federation"

In the celebrated case of Fawehinmi v. Babangida (2003) 12 WRN 1; (2003) 3 NWLR (Pt. 808) page 604 where the Supreme Court endorsed the status of Federal Capital Territory as a “State” of the Federation. And at page 677 Justice Onu of the Supreme Court said:

 "I must say it loud and clear again that from the provisions of Section 299 of the Constitution one should not be left in doubt: (i) That the provision of the Constitution shall apply to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja as if it were one of the States of the Federation"


I strongly suggest that Obi supporters ignore any funny Ghanaian prophesy and deal with facts as they are in order to prevent great disappointment and grief.

What do you think the minister of the FCT is? If you even claim Abuja is not a state, then only states are eligible to vote for the President and that makes Abuja votes null and void. This is why the constitution includes Abuja as a State which any candidate can also get 25% to add to the overall votes. Otherwise Abuja 25% will not count as it’s the seat of power. For electoral purposes the constitution wants it to be seen as a State so the votes count equally and, citizens are not disenfranchised with their votes.

Abuja for electoral purposes count as a state to make up a total of 37 states
