•Says it’s unconstitutional, treasonable

Former president of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, has called for serious punishment for those behind the plans to scuttle the nation’s democratic process through an interim government arrangement.

In a statement yesterday, Agbakoba said Nigeria’s 1999 constitution had no interim government arrangement, adding that those harbouring such plans as disclosed recently by the Department of State Security, DSS, should be severely resisted and punished.

“I suggest that the gravest possible consequences must be applied to all who are associated with this treasonable intent,” he stated.

Calling on political actors to respect the rule of law, Agbakoba said: “It is shocking to learn from the Department of State Security, DSS, that secret plans are underway to undermine Nigeria’s democratic process and transition, by arrangements of what is described as an interim government. This will be a major set-back and we must all resist it.

The general elections have held, albeit under the most challenging circumstance. But a president- elect has emerged and we must respect and accept this as fact. At least for now.

“All leading presidential candidates have approached the courts with grounds of complaint concerning what they consider as electoral irregularities.

“If the presidential candidates have accepted the democratic process by lodging petitions before the courts, then it is very difficult to understand upon what basis anyone considers that an interim government is a viable and legal alternative.

“We must all reject this nonsense and respect our constitution, which has no provision for interim arrangements.

“As the President -elect is sworn into office on May 29, the Judicial process will ultimately render a decision. As Nigerians, we must turn to the courts to render a decision on the petitions before them.

“The judicial process will certainly carry a huge responsibility in the process of democratic consolidation. The notion of the contraption referred to as interim government, has no place in our lives and our constitution. We must all say no.”

Recall that the Department of State Services, DSS, on Wednesday said it had confirmed a plot by some persons to install an interim government and stop Bola Ahmed Tinubu from being inaugurated as president.

The DSS said the plot includes embarking on violent protests nationwide to engineer the declaration of a state of emergency as well as securing frivolous court injunctions to stall the inauguration.

It, however, warned those behind the plot to desist or be dealth with.

All in all, the agitation for Interim government shows that people are angry with APC led government

The harsh truth is that more people voted against the ruling party than for the ruling party. The ruling party won because the opposition vote was divided. They should sit up and do better...

The keyword there is "the ruling party won"! Why the bitterness? Why ask for an interim government when someone already won an election? This is just desperation taken too far

The planners of interim government are the sore losers in South Eastern part (with "if I can't have it, noone else will" mentality) and some disgruntled elements in the South West.. we heard their leaked audio saying youths should rise up and that government can kill the youths.. devilish elements who think they own Nigeria and her citizens.

Tinubu should be vigilant and careful with the way he associates with them going forward cos they can do and undo.. the reason they didn't nurse evil plans against Buhari further is because they know Fulanis and how they are united and would definitely retaliate if anything happens to their son. Same can't be said for Yorubas who love self-sabotage more than anything, the likes of Adebanjo, Bode George and co.

Nigeria will work again I believe..

The ones that did one million man march for Abacha when Yorubas and other ethnicities in Nigeria were fighting for return to democratic rule will disagree..
If their candidate that came distant third can't have it, then let north (democracy or dictatorship) have it... that has been their hymn song even before election.

The ruling party won, because they rigged it.

LP won that election, that's why a military government or an interim government will be better than a Tinubu government.

Agbakoba should also know that there is no provision in our constitution for an undemocratically selected government, like what Tinubu is trying to attempt.
That is the main treason.

LP didn't win the election. They came third, which in a way was expected.

APC lost, but ended up winning because 1) LP, NNPP and the G5 , all factions in a way of PDP, split the oppostion vote 2) APC stayed united despite opposition within the party to Tinubu. 3) most African elections are lost by the opposition when they are divided 4) rigging does not explain how APC lost the three K states, Lagos, and even the FCT and Osun....and a swathe of the middle belt, and even part of the North east 5) Obi did not campaign well and hard enough, and did not reach out to the Muslim north, and inadvertedly made himself the christian candidate 6) APC and PDP are like Cocacola in terms of advertising.

But rigging explains why Tinubu did well in Lagos, Benue, Rivers, Bayeslsa and Obi did badly in Rivers, Bayeslsa, Benue, Ekiti, Bauchi e.t.c.

Also Tinubu made himself the Muslim candidate of this elections, by sidelining the millions of northern Christians and choosing a VP with bokoharam sympathies.

You also have to realise that Obidients are made up of people in all the major parties, which is why Obi was able to win Lagos, Plateau, which are states controlled by APC

They can orchestrate a wide scale civil disobedience and break down of law and order in the country prior to May 29 so that swearing-in won't take place.

This is why I have always maintained that all those players and actors in EndSars should have been arrested and charged to court for the court to decide the legality of their actions that led to wanton destruction of lives and properties across the country.

The only good thing is that PMB is ready to handover and the Military leadership are willing to leave democracy the way it has been.

My verdict is that the interim government plotters have failed.

Anyone talking about interim government should be arrested and prosecuted.

Let the judiciary take it from here.

At this point, every serious young person should have a japa plan.
