This post will be short.

Nairaland deployed a kinda dark mode today April 1st, 2023. According to naptu2, this happened same date in 2012.

Personally, i like the concept. Choice of colors need some design updates. However, the feedback from the over 11 pages on the post at https://www.nairaland.com/7636536/which-kind-new-nl-font show that a majority of users dont like it.

This is a real shocker to me. I have always advocated for dark mode integration in my sites and apps.

Why dont Nairalanders want dark mode?

Realtime feedback on this issue shows that what the developers want can usually be at variance with what the real users want.

This clearly shows why user testing is important.

The colors are bad.

There is no switch too. What if I want light mode during the day?

It didn’t follow the 60-30-10 rule of design.

It was like Kanayo O Kanayo’s dressing but not in a dark level.

I wasn’t expecting so much backlash though.
