On a particular day in my teenage years, I was in a meeting and listened to a man speak so wisely. It was an eye opening session.

After the meeting, I summoned up the courage to meet up the man, told him how impressed I was with his teaching, and I asked him to give me a ‘prescription’ for wisdom, that I wanted to be wise.

He looked at me and said, “Obviously I can’t give you my own wisdom. But feed on God’s word and you will be wise. God’s word is an embodiment of wisdom”.

In all honesty, I expected him to prescribe something totally different other than studying God’s word. But then, what he told me is the best thing he could have ever said to me.

Till this day, I can’t really tell you any other reason why I read the bible other than my quest for wisdom, and I hope God lavishes her upon me, I pray

Proverbs chapter 2 buttress that man’s point and also gives guidelines on how one can start the journey of becoming wise. But while I read that chapter, a particular verse struck me;

“Discretion will protect you; understanding will watch over you” Proverbs 2 vs 11

After thinking about this verse, I realized that the ability of discretion to protect you is dependent on the amount of wisdom that is at work in your life. This means that the more wisdom you have, the more the precision/accuracy of your discretion.


More or less, I am just a man in search of wisdom. Someday I am going to find her.
