They should do what Singapore does. If the Singaporean government offers you a full scholarship and pays for you to train, then you should stay back for a few years and help out. But if you pay for your training without government aid you should be able to come and go as you like, no problem. This bill has gone wrong from the start because it supposes that Nigerian healthcare practitioners are emigrating out of greed or malice rather than the fact that the country is basically unliveable. If it were possible to stay and lead a dignified life, most people would. They ought to revise the tone of the proposal so that it sounds less accusatory. |

angiography:Isn't that the reason a medical doctor earns, on average, far more than other graduates? A newly graduated house officer is over 200k in teaching hospital. How much is an average non-medical graduate paid? |

accordadoga29:Are you ignorant of the fact that free education for children is the responsibility of the state and local governments? Are you also ignorant of the fact that Obasanjo/Atiku’s government created the UBEC to help state and local governments ensure free education for nine years to all children, by providing them counterpart/matching funds? In any case, did Tinubu not fail to provide free education for ALL children in his eight years of recklessly stealing the federal allocation, IGR and loans for Lagosians, which his successor minions have continued ![]() |

angiography:They just started paying such not too long ago when U.I Realize that they can't be paid the same amount with other science students and still Japa .. When I was in a Federal University they pay the same amount with even Botany, Agriculture....Apart from states that had to increase Tuition from Fashola tenure other states follow suit even many criticize Fashola for that but today alot of States are doing the same .. This was owing to incessant striking Doctors |

bjtinz:You tell me. An average doctor in Nigeria works more than 100 hours in a week. In UK, it's 48 hrs as other workers. If you think they're being paid excessively, then the drain is just starting |

GUNITGuy:Your first paragraph is wrong...they pay the increased amount coz of lack of funding from the government...and even if your reason is true, that already negates the premise that they should be bonded. Medical education is not cheap, and that even in Nigeria! |

alezzy13:It cost about $300000 and this is even on l oannot a scholarship... Medicine has no scholarship you just have to pay .. Here we reward people medicine for passing Jamb better than the rest or through man no man . It's not a joke at all no modern country let their best brains trained by them to just go like that. .. I know they would come to this point some day |

bjtinz:I laugh at people in Nigeria who don't understand what it takes the US or UK to train those people in that Profession let the Nigerian trained Doctors be grateful forget what any narrative they may present they are really privileged than the rest by Nigeria..They need to give back and reward the society in another way not just money donation to their schools ...... |

They are making bill to prevent doctors from emigrating while they will never make bill preventing themselves from seeking medicare abroad. Thieves! |

My only comment is that the person that sponsored the bill is a daft illiterate and Nigeria needs to start electing intelligent and educated minds into elective offices. |

onuman:The people in government are aware of these challenges, the point is how do we address the root cause? The focus seem to be only on doctors but what about nurses dentist pharmacist and even radiographers? I know alot of radiographers who are out already infact one of them with over 12 years practice told me he is not sure we have up to 10000 radiographers left in Nigeria. The root cause should be the focus, imagine a state government(Rivers state) not giving employment for over 7 years. It's heartbreaking. The government has a huge role to play,so stopping people until 5 years won't change anything. We b 9ja,alternative to dis license go appear, trust me. |

awumen:The government cannot be in the hospitals all the time to checkmate the doctors involved in diverting patients in government hospitals to their private clinics. A case for example is the Imo state University Teaching hospital in Orlu. All efforts of government to checkmate doctors in the ugly phenomenon have not succeeded. |

DesChyko:can that salary give you a good life in the UK, after paying tax and other utility bills how much do you have left.On the contrary if you have #25million in Nigeria, you have virtually cross the poverty line |
| Re: Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe Slams Brain Drain Bill by DesChyko: 10:57am On Apr 09, 2023 |
alfa666:Nice one. Are you insinuating they even want more pay? Thanks for this point. |
| Re: Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe Slams Brain Drain Bill by DesChyko: 11:02am On Apr 09, 2023 |
coputa:Divide that amount by 20. More than half the teaching population in Nigeria don't make that in a year. Correct me if I'm wrong. Talking about a good life in the UK, the taxes and utilities gives them access to healthcare, education for their kids, electricity, fuel, e.t.c. right? Nice. How do we pay for those things here? Don't we pay for them out of our pockets? Make we dey sha play |
| Re: Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe Slams Brain Drain Bill by coputa(m): 11:03am On Apr 09, 2023 |
alfa666:No, teaching in the UK is hell, the learner's are rude to their teachers, expecially blacks:they throw racist and derisive words at you.The schools management doesn't frown at it instead you will be queried for lack of class control. |

4ward4:Oh there is a business in a public space like Nairaland? You’re really pushing it the more. If there was a business to be minded, you won’t be in this forum in the first place and you won’t certainly reply the other person by quoting him or her. So 50+1 means we, when it has not even outrightly passed a stage. Come off it man, you are really not intellectual. |

aybabz101:You get? They're talking as if the NIS is kept busy because of doctors on the run. Doctors alone can never account for the numbers of able bodied citizens seeking a better life elsewhere. |
