Or KES will likely strengthen. You keep dreaming of one day catching with Kenya. But I see that becoming hard and harder. This year economy is about 14.5 trillion KES - in nominal - that will depend on where the dollar goes.

https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/bd/markets/currencies/kenyans-hold-sh905bn-in-dollars-as-shortage-bites-3980178

Ruto definitely think so. I think so too. Kenyans opened dollar accounts and deposited 9B dollars for speculation. Now that pressure for dollars has been eased with oil deal - they will have to sell.

President Ruto on the KES/USD rate: "In the next one month or so, you will see the exchange rate coming down in a very phenomenal way. In fact, in my estimation, in the next couple of months, The exchange rate will come below 120 shillings, maybe 115. You never know"

Kazikazi:
with the K shilling loosing value, they might end up the year with 105b

First Dr Iweala as Minister of Finance was Soludo boss as CBN.
The minister set directions - CBN as independent as he can be - is junior to Minister of Finance.
He execute gov policy.
Nigeria banks were suffering from systemic risk due to debt overhang.
Just like now.
If Nigeria default - your banks will collapse like dominos.

Soludo is just a bitter lowlife proffesor in Nigeria.

HE CAN NEVER WASH Dr Iweala shoes.

Dr Iweala CV and achievements is TRULY IMPRESSIVE. Only a stupid Nigerian would dare question her credentials.

No wonder she has decided to become an American.

If she ever getting tired working for WTO - I would advice Ruto to run and pick her up as his advisor.
Minister of finance is boss to central bank Governor in Nigeria....🤣🤣🤣🤣

I like ur stupidity, it comes in variants. Kwantinue, I'll be here laughing at ur mumuism.😂

Let move to Nigeria - the ultimate zoo

Kenya traveller describes the Zoo - No Electricity/Power, No Fuel, No Naira in the ATM, No roads, No security.

The power problems here seem to be a norm. Pple are accustomed to this way of life. A generator here, generator there, Gen everywhere.

Power problems aside, I am still without money. Getting Nairas here is an extreme sport. See ATM Pic
You can walk to any ATM and withdraw cash. That was a temporary problem and it's fixed already.

But throughout all our ordeal we never owed federal government civil servants and we didn't have to go to Benin republic for dollars like one jungle in East Africa is doing.

The IMF has just published their new GDP figures for 2023: World Economic Outlook Database

The Ivorian and Congolese economies move ahead of the Ghanaian economy! That's pretty significant. (I was expecting Côte d'Ivoire to pass Ghana, but I wasn't expecting the DRC to pass Ghana so soon)

GDP in 2023 (in billion of US dollars at current exchange rates):
Nigeria: 506.6
South Africa: 399.0
Egypt: 387.1
Algeria: 206.0
Ethiopia: 156.1
Morocco: 138.8
Kenya: 118.1
Angola: 117.9
Tanzania: 85.4
Côte d'Ivoire: 77.0
Democratic Republic of the Congo: 69.5
Ghana: 66.6
Tunisia: 49.8
Uganda: 49.8
Cameroon: 48.6

In terms of GDP per capita, Côte d'Ivoire also moves ahead of Ghana, and is now very close to Angola's level (this before they even start to exploit the Ivorian offshore oil discovered recently). The gap between Côte d'Ivoire and Cameroon is now very large (in the beginning the 2010s, they had almost the same GDP per capita). Morocco also seems to have been upgraded significantly in these new IMF figures (perhaps they've rebased their national accounts?).

GDP per capita in 2023 (in PPP US dollars):
Egypt: 16,979
South Africa: 16,091
Algeria: 13,507
Tunisia: 13,270
Morocco: 10,460
Angola: 7,222
Côte d'Ivoire: 7,011
Ghana: 6,974
Kenya : 6,569
Nigeria: 6,178
Cameroon: 4,665
Ethiopia: 3,724
Tanzania: 3,600
Uganda: 3,224
Democratic Republic of the Congo: 1,474

For comparison, the oft-spoken Rwanda: 3,090.

Observed growth in 2022:
Côte d'Ivoire: +6.7%
Democratic Republic of the Congo: +6.6%
Egypt: +6.6%
Ethiopia: +6.4%
Kenya: +5.4%
Uganda: +4.9%
Tanzania: +4.7%
Cameroon: +3.4%
Nigeria: +3.3%
Ghana: +3.2%
Algeria: +2.9%
Angola: +2.8%
Tunisia: +2.5%
South Africa: +2.0%
Morocco: +1.1%

Growth forecast for 2023:
Democratic Republic of the Congo: +6.3%
Côte d'Ivoire: +6.2%
Ethiopia: 6.1%
Uganda: +5.7%
Kenya: +5.3%
Tanzania: +5.2%
Cameroon: +4.3%
Egypt: +3.7%
Angola: +3.5%
Nigeria: +3.2%
Morocco: +3.9%
Algeria: +2.6%
Ghana: +1.6%
Tunisia: +1.3%
South Africa: +0.1%

Okay. Benue is mostly rural terrain and the agricultural powerhouse of Nigeria. It's not opened up for the most part.

KaziKazi - this where you lost the plot - and will not catch up soon. 1969.

TZ enacted Mao-style communism - forcing communities into villages - and collective farming.
Kenya on the other hand - kicked out the India merchant class - so Kenyans could move from farming to retail & trade. A few Indians did move to manufacturing while majority left for UK & Canada.

No GDP number has yet been announced by world bank for Ghana . All this projected numbers here are from kibera central bank

But anyway this is the latest. Inflation gradually falling in Ghana while the cedis keep gaining strength . All thanks to debt restructuring .
