thisisit: Nigeria is still tribalist and corrupt, now imagine how things would be under regionalism... Under regionalism the regional governor would have an extreme amount of power over a vast number of people - add a little corruption to the mixture and you have a nightmare... Under regionalism Igbos would dominate the South East, Hausas and Fulanis would Dominate the North, I'm sure Calabars and Niger deltans would be glad to have their future dictated by Igbos, same way people of Jos and Benue would love to be ruled by Fulanis... This is what you believe would stop tribalism. Old ways are not necessarily good because they are old - you should take your own advice, just because regionalism is old doesn't mean it was good. |

danvon: Thanks for your analysis.... please read this.. UNITARY STRUCTURE ..IS LIKE FACE ME.. I FACE YOU APARTMENT.. WE SHARE KITCHEN, BATHROOM AND TOILET... THEREFORE WE WOULD CONTINUE TO HAVE ENDLESS CONFLICTS.. BECAUSE SOME PERSONS WILL NOT FLUSH THE TOILET AFTER USE.. SOME WILL STAY IN THE BATHROOM FOREVER WITHOUT REGARD FOR OTHER USERS ETC. IT IS OBVIOUS YOU'RE THE AGGRESSOR.... WHEN BIAFRA MILITARY STARTED HEADING TO THE WEST THROUGH MIDWEST.. OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE AGGRESSOR. BUT IN THIS UNITARY, BOKO HARAM CAN ENTER ANYWHERE IN SOUTH WEST IN THE NAME OF FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT. BESIDE IM REGIONAL STRUCTURE, THIS DO-OR-DIE MENTALLY OF POLITICIANS IN THEIR BID TO BE AT THE ALMIGHTY CENTRE WILL NOT BE THERE. IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT THST SOME REGIONS HAVE PROBLEM..  thisisit: Have you lived in self contain apartment where there is no clear head or leader, where every tenant can do their way as long it is within their apartment, it is usually a disaster and such a building would become uninhabitable... For example what would you do when some girls flush pad down the toilet, and this cause the soakaway pipe to get stuck which would affect other tenants... Sometimes when water is pumping it doesn't reach everybody because some people just leave their tap running... What about Nepa bill? What about tenants who refuse to participate in sanitation? One way or the other you would have to interfere in people's apartments because it affects yours, so this analogy simply doesn't work, living in a house with no central authority would not be so different from a face-me-I-face-you, having a strong central authority is the solution for better accomodation in both scenarios. Maybe you didn't read about the massive amount of political scandals, protests and lynchings in the early days of Nigerian independence, I personally think your suffering from nostalgia of the good old days syndrome... - if regionalism was so good it would have still existed, good things can't be destroyed easily... Having a central authority helps to balance different kinds of people. Maybe the authority should not be too powerful to the point of tyranny, but it should not be too weak to allow chaos.
