One thing I love about traditions and the people who defend it is that, what you consider normal today, was once extreme in the past, and what is extreme today, will be the normal of tomorrow.


So many things you're now seeing as normal were once taboos for our ancestors, and things we also see as extremes now, were norms handed down to us, by people who defined gender roles. So make we just dey play dey go na. Na so e go dey rotate.

My wife told me that at her adolescent age..she cooked and d people that had a taste of the nonsense she made had no option than to give her funny nicks even to the extent of reaching out to her mum with derogatory remarks.

We work with women in ghe workplace in all roles.

Saying cooking is important as a survival skill for every human is different from saying cooking is a skill a woman MUST have.

It is different from saying "she must know how to cook AS A WOMAN." That is on the basis of gender, and that is what *we* speak against. It is not a womanly requirement. A person is not useless or unmarriageable if they don't know how to cook.

It is because cooking is a standard most often exclusively required of women that we appraised women who don't adhere to it.

Because it should be normal. It should not be a big deal that a person doesn't know how to cook (that doesn't mean it's not important or they shouldn't try to learn); it really is just an activity like other things we do.
