Urhhmmm, marital rape, FGM and child marriage are also norms around the world, so does that confer a veneer of rightness on them?
Since every part of the world is doing it, yunno.
It is automatically a divine right.
As if patriarchy doesn't cut across cultures, from eras to eras.
How did this so called patriarchy become a thing across all corners of the globe from cultures who never had contact with each other?

Maybe it's because physically men are stronger, they lead armies establish and defend from external aggression and protect the community

Just like in any gathering the strongest, that takes most responsibility automatically become the leader even if you are living in a colony of women only whichever of them is stronger and willing to take up leadership to defend the community will be the leader

I said it's essential for a woman to know how to do domestic chores and most importantly cook as a housewife

You guys said it's misogyny because we are "limiting women" that they're life is not in the kitchen

Then you said you don't have a problem with a stay at home dad...why?

Where did equality go?

Going by your analogy, aren't you limiting men?

I thought you're pushing for equality
Did you miss my post were I said we are eliminating stigmatized gender roles. You think it's only women that it affects.

Kholiwe:
How does sexism and stigmatisation of gender roles not affect everyone? It affects your gender as well but society pressure won't allow them speak up because they need to keep the facade of masculinity up.

African men have prejudices against independent women because they are suffering from inferiority complex and a low self esteem. This is bred from male-dominated cultural norms that have been teaching them that a woman is of a "weaker sex". We see it in marriages were the woman earns higher, we see it when a woman is successful outside marriage, we see it when a woman is thriving after a divorce etc

GloriousGbola:
The Irony of your argument is that women across the world, brought up in different cultures from hyper conservative to Uber liberal have been and still are being taught to cook.

The target market of designer cooking utensils and accessories are not men, they are women. The stars of the cooking threads in this platform are women and no one is bothered with it.

A woman who can cook is as important to a marriage as a man who can knack properly. Yes you can do without either, but a lifetime of this will be pretty grim.

Magnoliaa:
You people call yourselves names in this thread over politics.

Infact, there is no lengths y'all have not gone to in childish draggings and doxxing, but Glorious Gbola wants us to believe that the men on this thread are great and respectable family men who can never be wrong because yada yada yada.

If there are some of you supporting a geriatric Tinubu here, why should I take as a truth your judgments of women's matters and cultures, lmao?
Once again binary thinking.

This is not about men being always right

This is about a noisemaker who attributes every view espoused here to African patriarchy / misogyny

It is particularly daft because the majority of posters here barely discuss women at all. Several of us from our post history in other discussions are liberal, accepting or indifferent to women vs patriarchy issues.

When we start a thread where we abuse ourselves over the rights of women then you can competently comment on our views towards women.

Since you want to go political. Ironically the geriatric tinubu you love to hate set up a lagos where there are multiple bodies and agencies protecting the rights of women. Anytime I see a story of girl.child.abuse or rape I always hope it is in lagos becaue there are agencies in lagos that will deal with it. Hopefully one day the state administered by youthful. Handsome Peter obi will do something concrete about widows rights for a start. The other irony - the actual misogynists in this thread are those who identify as obidient.

Lol

Is it only when the topic is sexual assault that you people remember ratios and percentages?

What's the number of male nurses compared to female nurses?

Miners, deep sea divers, plumbers, sewer workers, truck drivers, Marines, combat roles, firefighters, electricians, construction workers nko?

Prisoners, suicides nko?

Why is the draft in the USA male only?

Why are physical Standards different in many militaries around the world?

Abi we only remember gender roles when we're talking about comfortable cushy stuff?

Again, if you are okay with not cooking and your husband or whoever is too, y'all be fine. No come dey tell others wetin them go do.
When fighting for comfortable jobs we remember equality when it's time to face Boko haram or when you hear a noise at the door at night, then you remember are you not the man of the house

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Magnoliaa(f): 3:10pm On Apr 16, 2023
GloriousGbola:
The problem with all this cooking talk is that the women have somehow convinced themselves that they are the only ones running the house. I am sure the petrol in the generator, and the cars, the gas in the cylinder, the water if there is no borehole all just materialise out of nowhere.

I am not talking about money here - I am talking about effort to track and procure. Does the woman buy and keep track of everything that runs the house? Groceries, toiletries, house cleaning products? Who is tasked with servicing the generator? Who goes out at 1am to put it on? Who has to figure out why the car is not starting? Who fixes what's broken in the house? Who ensures all the doors are locked at night? Does the trash take itself out?

The other irony about all this cooking noise is the same women who say its not a woman's job will become fiercely territorial about 'my kitchen'

In the end to be a man - choose not to understand, but to accept. Also this

I swear, I could have sworn that you're the Women's Rights Hand-Man or The Lone Masco-Feminine Voice on NL or a Simp-Knight in Dazzling Armor or some shit like that.

Did you suddenly capitulate, or these perspectives of yours have always been hidden?

You know, like Blue Ray Dick and others here, you could have sat this conversation out instead of trying to pander to your guys here and to be seen like a hard man.

Now, I am not saying you don't have a right to voice your opinions, I am simply saying they are grossly in contrast to the opinions I know you to hold, lmao.

GloriousGbola:
For me, femininism in Nigeria is largely emancipation without the accompanying responsibility.

This used to be a subject of debates back them on this platform. My salary is for me while my husbands salary is for the family. And the women would argue this vehemently.
That is equality when the husband takes over financing the house and the woman keeps hers to herself

They are male and female bodybuilders. You have no point here.
If you continue like this, one will be forced to assume 4th wave femininism is anthtecical to maths/statistics.

Do we have equal numbers of male and female bodybuilders? Is there an even distribution? If not why? Is it because of discrimination?

Even in the kind Scandinavian countries wey them dey praise as the bastion of equality.

The wahala with these people is that they're trying to force equality of outcome. And it is not possible.

Equality of opportunity is.

We are not the same. We have the same rights, but we are not the same.
Women and men are equal but different

For equality let female boxers get merged with men in the same ring

Abeg. I am tired of this argument.

Done and dusted with it over a long while ago.

Again, bring up one million points and shit, nothing will ever counter this- Because something is borne out of nature or is a given all over the world doesn't make it right.

We can go back and forth all day for all eternity, but that will remain incontrovertible.

Look around you carefully. Raumdeuter already said it, so I will reiterate. This is not the romance thread with sexually frustrated boys shouting red pill. This is a thread where most of us are responsible adult males raising families to the best of our abilities. Our arguments and fights and vawulence here are about politics and stealing of photographs.

Save your aggro for the romance threads and the redpillers. You are clearly transferring misplaced aggression

Like I told your comrade you are the one arguing over numbers. They are male and female bodybuilders. Nothing a man can do that a woman can't do In the society. Gender roles is a farce.

Lol... So let me get this straight.

Nigerian men monetize Nigerian women's efforts and roles, women are beginning to see and act from men's perspective now there are issues. All of you will be alright!

When you are quick to ask a woman what she brings to the table, what she added to your success, what her contributions are in the home all because they aren't monetary and quantifiable then it's only a matter of time before such woman stop trying, take off her "insignificant" deeds , becomes completely "useless"and contribute what you only understand/acknowledge MONEY by earning.
Drink water you will be alright!

As for cooking, a man who understands and acknowledge the non monetary effort of a woman deserves lots of mouth watering dishes. But a "what do you bring to the table" kind of man deserves "plates filled with cash".
All of us will be alright

A woman does not know how to cook.

Stop typing meaningless things. Why are you expecting the woman to cook in a relationship and not the man? Let's start from there.

Defending a person who is being bullied or attacked or browbeaten does not automatically mean I gree with everything the person stands for or with all the person's views.

For instance I have stated here on this platform on more than one occasion that I am not particularly religious. I have even had arguments with fellow Muslims because of this. That has not stopped me from defending muslim being denigrated

The fact that I support apc has not stopped me from calling for the heads of lasbca officials or saying lasg should be sued for the bus driver.

You are the one with the problem. The binary black and white purity over-wokeness

When you are ready to grow out of your binary thinking you may understand that you can defend people without agreeing with them wholly

This idea of purity and you’re never compromised and you’re always politically ‘woke’ and all that stuff,” Mr. Obama said. “You should get over that quickly.”

“The world is messy; there are ambiguities,” he continued. “People who do really good stuff have flaws. People who you are fighting may love their kids, and share certain things with you.”

If it's borne out of nature maybe that's the way it's supposed to be as created by God and Otem

Is it right that a fish can't fly or that a cattle can't swim?

Is it right that it doesn't snow in Kano like in Helsinki?

Is it right that men are generally bigger and stronger while women are generally more caring?
