Thats first alternative, another way if its not in the festive season, just book for agrited and breed for 5weeks which you will feed day and night for 4weeks by then they will be over 1kg and the 4th to 5th week just give finisher. That is another alternative, when you breed for long that is when the cost will be higher. This you will use exclusive new hope feed. Extra starter(510) yellow bag, starter 511 you will see the weeks there.

Now for the frozen aspect, when you feed day and night, just go for agrited and feed for 6weeks. You will get 3.5- 4kg and your good to go.

Now you know medication, booster and all is important. You do things appropritely

staga:

It costs N2,700 to N2,800 to raise a broiler. I challenge you to provide facts and figures and I will show you mine.

Most market people come pricing them for N3,000 or N3,300. You only make the money selling to those buying it per kg, in which case you have to keep your birds for at least 8 weeks to attain 4kg, so that when you slaughter, you can get 2.5kg killed weight which gives you anything from N4,000 to N5,000 per bird. You make the most money if you open a joint where you sell fried or roasted chicken with rice, or you do shawarma.

You cannot sell in the open market unless you get a shop, join the union and spend other initial money to get yourself an established retail outlet. Also, sales are seasonal. Easter coincided with Eid-El-Fitri in the same month this year. Then there is the Eid-El-Kabir and also Christmas later in the year.

I own a broiler farm so I speak with loads of experience. I also have land where I farm maize twice a year using the 50-day variety. This cuts my feed costs during the rainy season, considering that a kilo of maize (60% of the constituent of chicken feed) is now N245.

First, thanks for your input.

But please, it is always good to do the Maths. New Hope is 11,500. Top Feed is 8,700 to 9,000, depending on where you buy. The cost of Gumboro vaccine has nearly doubled from 6 months ago. By the time you factor in all costs (feed, vaccines, drugs, mortalities especially during the heat season like now, wood shavings, brooding paper, salaries, cost of fuel to power your borehole, etc), you will get nearly N2,800 or even N3,000 as raising cost for a typical Ross 308 broiler. The market people will come to price the live birds very low (some as low as N2,700).

So wherein lies the profit if you use feed that is N9,000 and above, except you have up to 1000 birds where you can say your profits may be N300,000 if you sell to those in the market at N300 gain per chicken?

Also, how much do the cold rooms charge per kg? So you find out that it is a continuous balancing act for the farmer and many a time, compensating with formulated feed is really the only way out.

Let me first talk about brooding, i don't use sawdust or brooding paper all through, below is the system i use all through, at first week to 2-3weeks i use brooding cage:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Su1N3Htk7z8

So with this i hardly have mortalities, about the drugs, everybody have a way of going about it so i wont talk much on the drug.

And this is Agrited at 6weeks attach pics and video

Now let me answer to this , here new hope is 10,650 and top field, is #8,500 let's leave the price, selling agrited at 2700 to 3200 at 5weeks is okay. Im okay if at the end of the day i make profit even if its small but continuously so i always have target when to stop feeding and sell cos from a day old till 2weeks plus dont dont eat much and 3weeks to 4weeks they start eating but from 4weeks upwards, they eat heavily so i try my best and plan ahead. It is a lost if someone keep making feeds cos at broilers grow, their appetite increases, its all about calculations and i do mine very well and cut unnecessary spending.

This is where you mixing things up, first im a vet surgeon and at the same time i have more than 10 top farms i consult for cos its my job. I have a broiler farm and every week i rear atleast 200 broiler to six or 8weeks depending on hatchery farm. Now Agrited breed Ross while Chi breed AA+ and the different is Agrited pick from the start while CHI pick but are excellent for 8weeks cos of the pace they attain weight from 6 to 8weeks but i get that 4kg within 6weeks in agrited. Now let me explain and enlighten you, the first mistake is to mixed feed for yourself cos the cos of quality feed is even higher than buying feed from the market, secondly im not a seasonal farmer but i advice people as a seasonal farmer to apply wisdom.
Let me start by seasonal farmer, now as a season farmer all you need to do is from a day old to 4weeks give them necessary feed, better you start with new hope to bring out there future then if possible feed them day and night for 2weeks. After 4 weeks change to top field finisher and feed them during the day alone for another 4weeks. You dont need weight here. But the futures will come out well. If you give hybrid or feed you make it wont grow cos all this company always subsidize their price.

Your the one not getting it right.. Broiler is the most profitable of all.

Profitable for where..

It has a slim margin and delicate.

Dont go into broiler bizness..

If you dont have a contract with an outlet to buy at maturity....
Or
have a viable mini cold room to sell at per Kg in a good location or in the market....

Stayin at production level in the value chain is not advisable in Naija...

Good day everyone on the trend ok am a broilers farmer also in Abuja practing. There's a question I have been expecting someone to ask and it seems we are busy disagree wit nickvil here. The question his pretty simple let say once stock Agreted birds 200 Doc as it stands how many bags of feed will you need to feed them till six weeks given that you feed them super starter day and night for 4weeks.
Also what mode of feeding as regards to timing of feeding the birds will be used for the next 2weeks to get them to 6weeks to achieve the 3kg weight we all have been longing for.
I just finished selling 350 bird's I feed day and night for almost a month using top feed and I didn't achieve 3kg body weight I feed 200 birds with 1 bag a day after 1 month. A quick respond will be appreciated. As we are all learning

Good evening, the first question you need to asked yourself is if you want to sell as frozen or live, if you want to sell them out at table size live chicken or want to sell them to people who buy live at kg price. With this you will be able to know the kind of feed you will go for to cut cost so you can be on a safer side and make profit. I do frozen so let me give an insight, you can't get 3kg if you use top feed, top feed are good if you want to sell to the market women cos they don't really care much about the weight, all they just want is for the chicken to be little bit heavy at hand and bucky. So let me go first with selling live weight to market women or end user that are not meant for frozen. All you need is just to feed the chicks day and night from a day till 3weeks with new hope 510 professional super starter, then from 3weeks upward you can start feeding them top feed day and night for another 3weeks. With this you will be able to make your profit.
