BlueRayDick:
Most people talking about Military in 2023 don't know what Obasanjo did with the military in 1999/early 2000's. Obasanjo retired 93 top military officers immediately he became president and reshuffled those who were still in service. The possibility of the military boys launching a successful coup in 2023 is near zero! The generals are well taken care of and the so decentralized that they won't even have one voice to agree on a coup.
That move OBJ pulled when he came in was extremely ballsy.
How was he able to get away with it without fear that the military would react?
Did he receive assurance from the IBB geng?
If there's like a detailed link to the story wooh share.

Forget that. It is those who did not grow up in the military days that have romantic illusions about military rule.

Also ironic that a lot of people who condemned Buhari as a democracy truncating coup plotter are now calling for a coup

A lot of stories are coming out. The recruitment was in January and it is looking very fishy how a Mass Communication graduate was picked over some Engineers.

According to some unverified post, they were not yet trained on handling the trains. Just assessment and interview.
The story gets worse. The girl probably paid with her body or used connections.

The man was jailed in 2021. He will probably be deported to Nigeria in 2025.

The least you can do is some research rather than heating up of the polity before sharing obvious fake news.

Lmao this is not in anyway indicting her.
Coz people get jobs in banking with non accounting certificates.
Especially for beginner roles.
They will tell you it's advisable to have studied accounting but it's not going to be limited to it.
So for a train operator what do you need? A foundation knowledge in engineering or just generally a Bsc😁

Despite his faults Obj really wanted well for Nigeria. And he literally escaped death by the whiskers in abachas gulag, he allegedly had less than 20k to his name when abacha died (some say it was a military cabal that killed him) and he had the backing of the west.

At that point it would have been like, you people already tried to kill me, I fear nothing anymore

Obasanjo messed himself up with that third term agenda. That's the only thing Atiku had over him; he probably thought some of the developmental plans he had needed more time for him to be at the helms of affairs to see them to fruition(Somehow looking back at successive government after his own, it feels like he was right)....But the constitution did not permit that.

Na wetin kill all the goodwill OBJ enjoyed be that.

It is not indicting her per se, it is indicting the recruitment processes in the company. It makes sense that the train operators should have an engineering degree, because it is likely that operating the train will require some level of technical background. It may not be a big deal in obodo oyibo, but in Nigeria where all sorts of issues can crop up, you at least want someone who can do fault analysis and minor maintenance.

There are enough female engineering graduates out there if they wanted to do a girl power/female empowerment PR move. This was quite simply use of connections gone wrong. And poor SM management.

The country was tensed that time, I don't think a military coup would've succeeded sef if they had tried. The people protested serious agsinst the military government of Abacha to the extent that bombs were going off in different parts of the country. Of course Abacha was always blaming NADECO and everybody who stood in defiance to his high handed rule, but it never deterred those guys especially the press guys who were always arrested and kept in detention for months.

I don't think even the military want to go back to such era, I guess that's one of the reasons Abdulsalam let go power and the military guys exited the scene.

At the very least he would probably have sorted out power. Yardua basically died multiple Obj initiatives.

But if OBJ had gotten that third term, he would probably have gone full president for life. So we dodged one bullet for anothe

I have googled first metro infrastructure limited. It seems to be a private company partnering with lasg to manage the metro line. Similar to lagbus.

If they are asking for engineers as operators for the Red line, it follows they will do the same for the Blue line.

There is no shortage of engineers in Nigeria . This is just a bad management decision . Typically when you have a company with a technical bent and you have to dash out some roles, you give those roles to the safety dept. You don't need a technical degree to be a safety officer and everyone can be trained in safety

To had to this good submission, Obj also made it mandatory to never appoint the highest racking officer as Chief of Army Staff? I think this also help in clipping powerful high ranking General, since the head of the military is either a Leiutenant or Major General..

He had the backing of most of the top generals and recently retired generals. In addition his intimate knowledge of multiple coups in the past would have come in handy.

I am almost certain that IBB was the first person to mention a possible OBJ presidency. After OBJ was released and everybody was trooping to Otta to congratulate him, IBB was the first person to suggest that with the situation in the country we needed someone like OBJ to bring people together.

When IBB first said it it was meant with surprise and almost derision, because no one thought of OBJ in that way pre-1999. Quietly however it gained traction, until he became an overwhelming favourite.

Interesting, so it now matters whether social media posts by randoms are endorsed by the majority? That's new.

Well, these are sentiments that have been expressed for a while and more so since the Igbo girl driving Yoruba train debacle.

https://twitter.com/goddess_yoruba/status/1648808872981700609?t=gq-wzgM2Fx-9pynlBJW0Vg&s=19

That's a Yoruba Nation handle posting the same picture which clearly is relevant to their struggle, what matters is the message being passed, and No, she didn't post it in 2020 when Adeyinka Grandson reigned supreme.

There's hardly any post you make these days that doesn't contradict itself. We have several Igbo's as active posters on this board, let's use them as sample, how many of them do you see drumming support for the activities of IPOB? Yet that hasn't stopped you from saying they're interested in whatever IPOB represents. I can bet you personally don't even know any Igbo person drumming support for IPOB activities yet it hasn't stopped you from suggesting they're on board with what Nnamdi Kanu and Simon Ekpa are peddling.

the best you have is a picture from the internet. no yorubas picketing banks, no yorubas making demands, no yorubas actively agitation.
they simply printed some posters, picked a fellow from the street and draped him in them.

Let me know when we start having sit at home in the SW over the perceived marginalization.

Adeyinka grandson is in prison. No one is shouting or marching or mobilizing for his release.
sunday ighoho is confined to a medical cemter in cotonou. no one is shoutng or agitating for his return to nigeria.

the fact that there are yoruba nation agitators on social media does not translate into actual real world numbers supporting the movement. just as in the case of PO, you are assuming that twitter numbers are a reflection of reality in Nigeria. how many times will it be before you learn this obvious lesson?

this board? why are you using this board when we have the political threads? do you think the ibos on this board represent a reasonable sample size ? is it the ibos on this board who are running operations for simon ekpa, or celebrating him? are they the ones beheading offiials or kidnapping soldiers? are they the ones who have turned the east into a no work area on mondays? or you think arguments on this are a reflection of the reality in the east today?

More generalizations from Mr Majority Yoruba's...terrorized people sitting at home to protect their heads does not constitute support for a movement. One man armed with an AK-47 can have up to 200 people cowering in fear, not to mention a terror group with at least 1K armed criminals. The bulk of the people in the east that sit at home do so not because they support the sit-at-home, they do so because they fear for their lives.

Adeyinka Grandson is in prison and staying in prison because he wasn't arrested by a country that can be influenced by those loyal to his ideology. Sunday Igboho that was arrested in Benin was promptly released because he was in a country where his supporters could flex their influence.
