Just imagine this scenario :

You have a complaint about an issue to let’s say Firstbank on Twitter based on how people do talks about banks responding faster to tweets faster than email. Now u not being much of a Twitter person just goes on Twitter, search for Firstbank and u message one of the Firstbank account with ur complaint .

If u are unlucky it’s a parody/scam account , they will play along , inquire about ur account details and bvn details . U will just provide it to them and wait while ur account balance is being cleared remotely 🤦‍♂️.

Now that’s naija o, imagine what will happen when those boys go for bigger international financial institutions

most of the corporate entities are way too invested in twitter imho. they will cough out. this has been announced since as far back as january if i recall.

i have had the experience where free apps i have used for years have suddenly gone paid. can i pirate the app - no. is there a viable alternative to the app? no. is the app critical/essential to my workflow ? yes. does the owner of the app deserve to get paid for all the free service he has given to all of us users over the past 15 years? yes. sign . . .opens wallet.

yes and no. that is where a kyc policy will come into place. which must be why they require phone numbers. also, any party that was previously verified can easily re do their verification - as they have a post hisory and possibly a payment history [ads etal] via which they can be verified.

the people most likely to be at risk are the newcomers to twitter. it will almost be as bad as cybersquatting. say blue ray suddenly becomes a successful politican and decides to have a twitter presence. next thing he finds that i have already created a verified blueray ID on twitter because i already saw he was up and coming. it will now be alot f back and forth with twitter hq - where blueray tries to prove he is the original

but for already established brands - it is to pay up and get your checkmark restored.i am sure on their profiles at the twitter end they are registered as lapsed verification.

if people start creating verified fake first bank - it will be from the nigerian end . unironically this will also give most governments their wish - twitter will have to have some form of local office in any nation where there is a large number of verified users - if only for identity purposes. also for revenue.

Elon only cares about money and I have not seen anything that suggests otherwise. Just pay $8 and get a tick. The current KYC with phone numbers is useless at best

AFederal High Court sitting in Abuja, Nigeria's capital territory, has admitted a social media influencer, Chude Nnamdi, to bail in the sum of N10million for alleged cyberstalking.



The police had arraigned Nnamdi before Justice Gladys Olotu, on a one-count charge of cyberstalking in charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/130/2023, with Inspector-General of Police as complainant and Nnamdi as sole defendant.



When the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty. In admitting him on bail, Justice Olotu also ordered Nnamdi to produce one surety, who must be a level 14 civil servant or a resident of the FCT with verified landed property.
