You should practice saying that more to your lifeless mother so you won't spend the rest of your miserable life regretting the words you never said to her before her demise.

There is no substitute for experience. There is no greater teacher than time. I don't want to pump his ego, but there's a nigga here whose name starts with I and ends with Me, that I used to have lengthy arguments about back in the day about taxation - more specifically about taxing the rich to fund social welfare.

That nigga said something that I only recently understood in it's truest sense...something along the lines of 'when you're young you're a natural socialist, but only an old fool wouldn't drift towards capitalism' or something like that sha.

It takes time to show you what some teachers cannot teach you. Who no hear go feel. That's the beauty of life.
I have a group of friends all Nigerian Americans most around 40yrs. About 10 of us met recently we had discussions about general life. And when we started talking about issues that affect their personal life, their kids education, their businesses, then govt policies and how if affected them, how for inclusion they want to build more apartment styled housing in their suburbs they all live, school curriculum for their kids and the big elephant taxes from property taxes, to business taxes to personal taxes all these taxes as it is currently Biden and the democrats are still planning to increase it more

One of them just blurted out, never in my life will I ever vote a democrat again, I then said I will vote a Republican as long as it's not Trump, then another one just replied "even if its Trump I am voting Republican "
Another one just rounded it by saying I apologize to all of you that I convinced to vote Hillary

All these guys, I have known most of them for over 12yrs and most supported the Democratic party some were even volunteers during Obama times

Now they are all at a stage where there are no longer the takers in the economy but one of those who should be funding the economy, they now have something to lose, they now have things to CONSERVE and protect they cannot afford to be carefree anymore. Now the realities of life have come to their doorstep

Like Ebenezer Obey said in one of his songs

Omo to ni Iya ohun ko la, Omo to ni baba ohun ko lowo lowo, Enu e lo wa yen

A child that is angry at his mother for not wealthy, angry at his father for not being rich, well you are also on the journey of life.. you will soon get the answer and see the reasons

You can literally just telling he's DYING for attention and always just looking for an opportunity to spar.

'Cause people online are yada yada yada, the Internet is this, the Internet is that, YET he will always stir the waters looking for engagements.

But nor worry. I dey here.

I will always help you pack a cooler-full to deliver back to your parents after you're over-fed here.

"Okay, ma."

Ode. A disgusting thing, through and through.

Twitter has to turn a profit or die.

it is as simple as that.

amazon started in 1994 - its first profit was in 2001

twitter started in 2006 - it is yet to turn a profit.

most of the celebs talking are also entrepreneurs and business people - is it lebron that will carry an expensive loss making business for 17 years?

a large number of businesses, for better or worse are turning to a subscription model. that is what this is, ultimately. you want to use this business as a platform to reach your followers, you have to pay for it. that is how we keep the lights on and the spice flowing.

madness would be for musk to continue to do what had been done for the last 17 years and expect that twitter would eventually make a return on his investment.

you want to talk it in ibime terms - dorsey and the original board of twitter ran street on musk and have left him holding the bag.
VC's have been bankrolling our lifestyles for years as interest rates were kept at or near zero and many people are just finding out.

Even Amazon's core business is still unprofitable, most of their profit comes from AWS and other factors like lower net comp than other companies of their size, high turnover etc.

The tech world Is and has been run on the greater fool theory for a very long time.

Get lucky with an idea, find VCs to fund and sell to the next fool down the line.

Tesla became profitable in 2021 and the world has wisened up to the fact that It is A CAR company, not a tech company.

SpaceX might not even exist without government contracts (read: taxpayer money)

Check them Uber, Lyft, Doordash etc and see how many Unicorns are actually profitable.

The steps it'll take to make Twitter profitable might end up killing it, but we hope to God they don't.

Everything is a subscription and it is turning customers away from most things.

Btw Twitter was profitable in 2018 and 2019.

you're right

and that trend is even more disturbing

completely unpredictable

can anyone explain exactly how twitter makes money

i mean - during the panedemic when everyone was trapped at home, and when the finances of all the tech companies rose, they made a loss - their biggest loss to date. it should have been their finest hour -

Mostly through ads - Promoted tweets.

But their ad model and algorithm isn't as good as FB or Google
They also added the tip jar lately and kept a cut of what the users got.
The only step I'll agree with is monetising creatives the way YT does...and keeping a cut. That's the fastest way to profitability IMO and that's why Elon is giving 100% of revenue made to the creators for the first full year, to attract a lot of them.

Twitter Blue could even work, but with other perks that don't include verification. That thing will cause plenty problems.

That is why those who can leverage on the experience of others usually go far,and why I'm rather grateful for the existence of this thread.

Learning from older people but who can still relate to my situation is always a boon.

I can only imagine what kind of billings HMRC would love to bring against big corporations, and I can definitely see why the rich do their best to dodge tax.
My wife is a social worker, so I see first hand what my tax contribution goes on, and I'm not going to lie, it's very hard to hold on to the left leaning principles of my youth. A very close friend of mine, also a Nigerian, has recently joined the Tory party...that's how hard he has skewed, and we both marched together in 2011 when the Lib Dem policy of increasing tuition fees for Home Students was implemented, and we both counter marched against the EDL in 2012 and 2013.

I still believe in some of the things I was militant about, but I'm not going to lie....I REALLY hate paying tax

Musk overpaid for it and so has straddled it with more debt. Almost like Glazers with Manchester United. Twitter wasn't that far from profitable before Musk. It had positive cash flow for the first half of this year , had minimal debt, had significant cash reserves. As with most tech websites, it survived this long by coasting off of investment capital in the hopes of getting even bigger and then becoming profitable.

There's a reason he wanted to back out of the deal.
Especially after stocks tumbled in the wake of rising interest rates in the post pandemic era.
